I've spend 30min watching a tibetan monk doing this at UFSC (Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Brasil - Federal University of Santa Catarina, Brazil) and it's worth it. Also had a short explanation about the meaning of this work by a guy and it's also amazing.
Patience, tranquility, meditation, balance... Ancient arts, ancient technology... In the end, inside any mandala there is peace. All of us should learn to live from time to time in a mandala way!
Norm , Diane and I saw the consecration ceremony and the deconstruction as well as the release into the river at the end. I wish I had gone earlier to see the creation. Check You tube for more including amazing vocals
The Tibetan monasteries such as Gaden, Drepung and Sera, Gyuto and Gyume tantric colleges have a long and distinguished history. Learn more about these and other Tibetan monasteries here bit [.] ly [/] dubdcy
The relationship between Locho Rinpoche, Dalai Lama and Loseling monastery has changed of late. Locho Rinpoche returned from Taiwan after giving teachings there and brought back a large sum of money that was donated to Loseling for their new prayer hall. However, Locho Rinpoche has now been accused for taking the money from Serkong Tritul Rinpoche and the monks in Drepung no longer acknowledge this great teacher. Its sad that politics are more important than guru disciple relationship
Dalai Lama is from Drepung Loseling Monastery in South India. Many other great and highly respected lamas also hail from Drepung Loseling. One such lama is Demo Locho Rinpoche, who was also the abbot of Namgyal monastery from 1986 to 1991 and had a good relationship with the Dalai Lama himself. Namgyal monastery is the private monastery of the Dalai Lama and the monks there specialise in rituals and pujas
I get where your coming from, people work and the "don't". But you should understand that what they do helps the community in some way. If we were all lawyers, actors, doctors and entrepreneurs the world wouldn't work.
I LOL at myself! Sometimes I think I'm so aware of living in the moment & able to focus. OH, do I have much to learn yet! I found myself looking at the time here & thinking I have to do another thing, trying to hurry up the beloved monks in my head. The whole point of them doing this is to show focus & patience! LOL @ me! I will now watch the whole thing again with my proper focus & patience in place. This is an excellent lesson for me today! Lovingkindness to all :)

lazy monks who have nothing else to do than playing with colored sand like children.
At the same time , how many people have to work so that these monks get their food.
And what is the point of all that waste of time? Just to show that everything is impermanent? That you can show more quickly.
Go to a children´s playground, make a sand castle in less than 20 minutes and then destroy it. It is the same.
Monks, take the Zen monks as an example: no work no food.
Go out and teach.
