i have been stitchin for 25 years+ and i still cant make my french knots go right. :S have done massive designs, hardanger and alsorts, but french knots, can i bug*ery :/ am determined to master them, even if my fingers drop off in the process :D
Very informative ie what goes wrong if you do it wrong, and which hole to put it. The diagram looked user friendly in my book, but it didn't explain in enough detail so Youtube really helped me out. I can do it now, even if I am bit slow:-)
Ive been looking at a number of Utube demos for french knot and NONE say if the needle goes BACK into the SAME hole as it came out of OR if it does NOT go back into the same hole. I cant see from any of the demos if it is going back into the SAME HOLE or NOT????? Please Explain...thanks :)
For a french knot you never go back into the same hole you came through from, or else you will find you end up pulling your "knot" through to the back side of the work!
Instead you make sure you go back down adjacent to the hole you came up from. My definition of "adjacent" depends on the fabric you are using. If you are stitching on linen, you can go back down the hole next to the one you came up. If stitching on Aida, you split the canvas like you would for a quarter stitch. Hope that helps.
What a great idea to post this. I was so close to chucking my cross stitch across the room as the french knot was the last thing i needed to do to finish and couldn't for the life of me do it. After watchin this did it on my first attempt. THANK YOU
IM NOT TRYING TO ADVERTISE BUT IM SCARED OF WHAT IT SEES in 1908 a lady named sally rusa was in the woods looking for a dog until a ghost came and killed her so if ur reading this u will find a bloody body in your closet hanging there haunting you and will kill u and ur family and if u want to stop this just sends this to 6 videos in 30 mins or this will happen!
Wow thanks i think i just needed to see some one make a french knot and now i think with some practice i can do a design with french knots in. thank you very much

Thank you! I could not figure out how to do these for the life of me. The example in the back of the book doesn't have a great view of what to do.

I am having a difficult time with french knots. Maybe because it's hard watching a right handed person do it. Try imagining to do it backwards!

I have had frustrating struggles with french knots, and grew to hate them. I have found the diagrams included weren't helpful in the least.
This video is fantastic, being able to see someone show how its done, and it looks soo easy! Thanks for making this video!
