music lol is a definite a weird subject/issue in the muslim world. Singing is ok. it depends on what the song subject is. If its bout "Them Hoes" or Crack lol. then its probably no good for the heart. The main issue is "Heart" that the only thing music effects. All music is haram. It has to be this way so that music will not be integrated into religious expression. It also means that when music is produced it's at least a positive message instead of garbage. Remember there is always layers of iman. Eventually music becomes completely irrelevant, even positive music/compositions.
Some of the people commenting here are slow... SHe is saying that music which goes against Islamic principles (Gucci Mane, Lil wayne, loads of others) should not be listened to. There is very little music today with any cultural value just alot of garbage. I prefer to listen to underground hip-hop myself that preaches social values. btw: I'm a muslim.
I don't think completely rejecting music is helpful, but I do think that rejecting music that is rude, crude and just downright bad is a great thing. I'm not Muslim, but I've noticed that since I stopped listening to the popular radio music and just stuck to songs that don't spew about sex and drugs and money I feel much more peaceful and happy. Music does influence people, but it can be in a good or bad way. There is good rap, good pop, good rock - you just have to filter and decide :)

I gave up all hip hop, because its terribly misleading, even some of the stuff I thought was alright like Lacrae. All I have on my IPod is the Qur'an but a couple times a week I listen to a few mellow songs on YT.

Perhaps it was this type of rule that the Prophet (saaws) forbade the people to write down, he said: "Do not take down anything from me, and anyone who has taken down anything from me, except Quran, should efface it," least particular cases be taken as universal rules. Although we have hadith we are to look at the universality of the Shariah.
We need to stop worrying about what some people say. There're clear Islamic evidence that show it's haram. It's really as simple as that. There're more things to Islam than arguing about whether it's haram or not. Let's move on. It's haram, period. Those who still want to do it, it's between them and Allah.
@TaqwaRoad I find it very interesting how that we are taught according to sharia to keep what is good of our culture of our lineage, yet we are so quick to negate parts of a culture or lineage for another. If one would study the deen one would find that certain cultures do certain things as it relates to them of positive. Islam was not meant to subtract ones culture to substitute it 100% for another. If you are from Africa take whats positive into the deen as other cultures should do as well.

music lol is a definite a weird subject/issue in the muslim world. Singing is ok. it depends on what the song subject is. If its bout "Them Hoes" or Crack lol. then its probably no good for the heart. The main issue is "Heart" that the only thing music effects. Music also takes you away from reality and the remembrance of God. As the songs keep replaying in your mind. If your already attached to music, take steps and learn about the Prophets. this will develop different interests in the heart.

All music is haram. It has to be this way so that music will not be integrated into religious expression. It also means that when music is produced it's at least a positive message instead of garbage. Remember there is always layers of iman. Eventually music becomes completely irrelevant, even positive music/compositions.

I don't think completely rejecting music is helpful, but I do think that rejecting music that is rude, crude and just downright bad is a great thing. I'm not Muslim, but I've noticed that since I stopped listening to the popular radio music and just stuck to songs that don't spew about sex and drugs and money I feel much more peaceful and happy. Music does influence people, but it can be in a good or bad way. There is good rap, good pop, good rock - you just have to filter and decide :)

It does not matter who this video was intended for, if it is every muslims job to preach islam wherever they can is it not then the job of every non-muslim to question it wherever they can?

This lady is enlightened and doesn't even know it. She does not belong in Muhammadan Islam. She uses her brain and conscience which is what God would want us to do in the way we make our choices. God will judge our spirit and what we have made of it and not silly rules which anyone can follow and still remain dark inside. Islam however concentrates on rules. This lady shows spirituality which Islam forbids.

If she wishes to express her opinions than she should have titled it "One Muslim Woman's look at Music", not "Music and Islam". She is not a scholar as she expressed, and does not represent the laws which is very obvious. This title and her expressions are misleading to those who are actually trying to learn Islam.

FYI, a good Muslim woman (especially one who is married) probably shouldn't be on youtube for all the world to see with an abundance of make up on. There is an assortment of sources that women can turn to. This is unnecessary and is not true modest living.

@kdiddybt I am not in the habit of thanking those who express their "personal belief of Islam". Islam is not a "this is the way I do it and it's cool" path to God. It's a shame you can't realize that. It's really a pitty that she feels the need to set a bad example and deceive the masses about what it means to be a good muslim woman. The idea is to show the most pious Islamic path and to inform the masses to reach it. This and many of her other videos show the "lazy, keep it modern, keep it fresh" approach to Islam, which is not Islam. It is just a misinformed deception. Deception is the path of Satan and is nothing I would ever endorse. Apparently you do.

A suggestion, the make up looks excessive and only because it is glamour make up. I would suggest using softer tones. I realize that you are trying to coordinate with the hijab color, but it doesn't look right. I would suggest softer tones or no make up at all. Just a suggestion.

geeze God created music. Its not music itself that is bad its what the music is about - Christianity is full of great hymns that honor God. Bach wrote "to the glory of God" on each of his manuscripts, the Psalms in the Bible are Songs. God MADE music, satan only perverts it. You dont ban one of Gods great gifts because it can be perverted- what will you ban fire because it can be used destructively? There is some nasty music i wouldnt listen to but dont ban ALL music!

I gave up all hip hop, because its terribly misleading, even some of the stuff I thought was alright like Lacrae. All I have on my IPod is the Qur'an but a couple times a week I listen to a few mellow songs on YT.

Salaam, from what i can gather, there are a lot of muslims who like to make their own shari'ah to meet their desires, so they say things like music is Not haraam only the bad music, oh and wearing make up is allowed as long as its not too much. Perhaps it was this type of rule that the Prophet (saaws) forbade the people to write down, he said: "Do not take down anything from me, and anyone who has taken down anything from me, except Quran, should efface it," least particular cases be taken as universal rules. Although we have hadith we are to look at the universality of the Shariah.

@TaqwaRoad I find it very interesting how that we are taught according to sharia to keep what is good of our culture of our lineage, yet we are so quick to negate parts of a culture or lineage for another. If one would study the deen one would find that certain cultures do certain things as it relates to them of positive. Islam was not meant to subtract ones culture to substitute it 100% for another. If you are from Africa take whats positive into the deen as other cultures should do as well.

Islamic Shariah teaches us to respect individual cultures or lineages. take what is positive of that culture of lineage and use it to expand your Islam. Arabs during the time of the prophet took music with an attachment of evil but others used it of positive, it stirred up great feelings of praise. Allah (swt) has Angels singing his praise daily, this is the example of positive music. do not negate ur culture 4 another

MashAllah sister. Unfortunately It's the same thing here with me, I listen to music sometimes, but not like I used to, im trying to listen more to the Quran while driving to work. Sometimes I say to myself okay soon I will quit listening to music cuz it's haram but then I hear a song wich reminds me of let's say graduation and I just can't stop listening to it. But InshAllah one day we will quit listening to it. =)
