The "proper" method of holding drumsticks goes as such:

1) Pinch drumstick between index finger and thumb.

2) Wrap remaining 3 fingers loosely around drumstick so the stick may freely swing in the index and thumb.

3) Ignore steps 1 and 2 because RockBand is a videogame, and doesn't care how you hold your sticks. (The foot idea is actually feasible)

Yes, beast score, rapes any of mine, but the fact is holding your sticks wrongs means 1.He would not be able to play on a real kit at all and 2. He could actually injure his wrists by playing like that. Im much better on my real kit than i am on rock band. It takes still to play like this, but it just shows at this time no way his skill can transfer to real drums. But this is an old vid so idk maybe he's fixed it.

Well on real drums you also have a lot more bounce which the grips for real drums are designed for. So if someone isn't really good at either style of hand placement they probably have a hard time controlling the minimum bounce using them thus the lack of wrist movement?
