Monty Python at least tried to be completely off the map, lots of comedy these days is just boring since it's practically all just reruns of reruns of comedy, though some still stand out. My personal favorites are Izzard and Pablo Francisco, since they just do their own thing. But I do think that you need a quite educated, and to some degree cynical worldview to enjoy Pythons sketches, since if you watch them you realize that they are very harsh and morbid if you watch them seriously (stupidly).

I feel Mock the Week is a little too self-aware, with many of the panelists trying very hard to win over the others in comedic talent. It's pretty funny nonetheless.
