extra stout is just a stout, stout is a form of Porter (wich is what guinness makes) stout got its start as a "stouter porter" as far as richness and color
Guinness is awesome. There's nothing like a pint and a good meal. We have an English pub close by that serves Bubble and Squeak, Sheppard's pie and Guinness called the Griffin. That place is heaven.
In my honest opinion, Guinness is by far one of the most over rated beers on the market. I could see how if its your first stout you would thinks its awesome stuff, but once you venture out and try bigger barrel aged and Russian imperial Stouts Guinness almost seems like a joke.
it's probably the best beer I've ever tasted in my life, and trust me,I'm a huugee beer fan...there's only 1 small thing - I don't think that you have actual Guinness Extra Stout in the US,as you can see, this one was imported - and there's a slight, but not significant difference...There is also Guinness pored extra stout served in bars and pubs all over Europe - and it's AMAZING!
I would suggest Kilkenny beer next, when you've started with good ol' Irish beers;)
By far the best variant of Guiness I have drank is Guinness Foreign Extra Stout (not the same as Extra Stout). Even though its ABV is 7.5% [UK] which you'd think would destroy the natural flavour (like if you put too much vodka in a drink) it still tastes like Guinness but with a rich coffee aftertaste.
Guinness stout is made from water, barley, hops, and brewer's yeast, and is treated with isinglass finings made from fishes' air bladders, although Guinness has claimed that this finings material is unlikely to remain in the finished product. A portion of the barley is roasted to give Guinness its dark colour and characteristic taste. It is pasteurised and filtered. Despite its reputation as a "meal in a glass", Guinness only contains 198 cal.
I knew it would surface sooner or later. God, I hate (I can't stress the word hate strongly enough) Guiness. If I want a beer that tastes like sawdust I'll go to the workshop and mix some into my Miller. (I'm from Milwaukee :D)
Stouts aren't the best beers to drink from bottles or cans, they really are at their best when served through a pubs tap delivery system, it gives you a better pint. Ales however are great in bottles and I could recommend a few if you can get hold of them over there.
A Guiness extra stout with a cup of whole milk, its like dinner haha, for an alchoholic.

Guinness extra stout is much better than guinness draugh but you can't make a black and tan with it because it is heavier.
