  • Love to be at that party. Sex drugs and Irish music should be a winning combination IMO. when i see these guys in the states it is a mellow, button down affair. i prefer the pagan orgy atmosphere by far.

  • tbh honest withr yoy treeibel mixiinf that 'sounf engineer needs to go back to school and learn about molting ( unless im geting editing worng 0 BUT fuck me kids play i sggest lite AFRO CELL SOUND SYSTEM for experience and honestly its aotut fin tunign your ear mr 'dj'

  • Lets just all remember where all of this came from! Our ancestors used to gather at crossroads to play music, sing and dance! while other times it could be just a small gathering in someones kitchen! it dosent matter where it is! when you are at a festival you can get up and dance and enjoy yourself, while at a concert you can sit down and listen to the amazing things some people can do with a peice of wood and few strings and some horse hair!

  • One of the gigs of my life.To all the pompous gits out there-Its a festival, we were having a party and it was one of the gigs of my life. Im glad I was there and introduced to such an amazing musician. I have listened to his recorded work but it seems a little flat after seeing him live and I would hate politely clapping from my seat at the end of songs in the sterile environment of venues such as the Albert hall. Lets hope Martin plays more festivals soon

  • @crwbano I don't think I'm pompous... but I feel you're aggressive ! I went to listen to him in a concert hall : it was full of intensity !!! Like a musical prayer... i was in trance.

    And not sterile at all.

But we might have different way to enjoy music.

  • @tradirishmusic Ha haa! Agressive-you should come over to a festival and find out just how aggressive-you might even have a good time, make some new friends and discover new ways of enjoying great music!

Fair comment about different ways of enjoying music but why not come to a good festival sometime and surprise yourself?

  • @crwbano But dont you think that back in the mists of time this would have been dance music and that the traditional way of enjoying it would have been to dance to it?

By the way, having watched your videos I can only say I wish I had your talent and that I could play the fiddle. I would definately reccomend you come to festivals such as electric picnic with your fiddle-you would most certainly be made welcome, make many friends, meet many great players and play to a different but equally...

  • ...appreciative audience to what you are used to playing to

  • they win them over by the end!

  • Would anyone know how to get the sheet music for the violin?

  • Comment removed

  • what was the first tune called in the intro. not when martin started playing. can anyone help me out with this?

  • Yes, it's a festival. Let's not insist that everyone enjoy music in the same way that we ourselves might.. Music is an experience to be shared, and a group enhances that. It's not the Last Supper or a Bach partita, it's a set of fiddle tunes, in fact, DANCE tunes- is it any wonder that people are MOVED by and MOVING to it? If you don't like the way festival crowds behave, stay home and listen to your CD's in sublime solitude.

  • @bschill69 Yeah... I love dance as well, and I love to share music !!! But... I feel (I might be wrong maybe) that some people here are not respecting this music. Or respecting it differently... I don't know :/

Did you know that approximately 5 to 10% of the population suffers of "amusia" ?

  • Looks like it real rough gig. They play so well, and I think with all the noise around them they really had to get into their own zone more than ever. They look stressed, and they don't normally, at a gig.

  • Martin Hayes is playing a such beautiful music that I'm deeply touched everytime I hear a few notes from him

It's a pity so many people are shouting and making noise !!! His music should be listend to in the silence of the body and soul...

  • @tradirishmusic -- you are so right. I've seen Martin Hayes & Dennis Cahill live a number of times and I can't find words to describe the experience. Had I been at this event, I would have been extremely discouraged by the shouting and screaming from the audience -- during play! Never been to a Martin Hayes performance where the audience wasn't mesmerized by the playing -- and basically silent except for some foot tapping. These folks must have been drunk.

  • @jubaldroad its a festival dude

  • @ODubhlaigh -- I saw Martin Hayes in Miltown-Malbay at the Willie Clancy festival, and Martin & Dennis at the Austin Celtic Music festival. As well as at other lively venues. Just never experienced large numbers of people screaming throughout the performance. Lots of stomping, clapping, also dancing, but not screaming throughout. Anyway I'm glad a these people were exposed to Martin & Dennis and hopefully some were close enough to hear the nuances of playing style over the screams.

  • @jubaldroad i saw him at willie week as well he was brilliant!

  • @jubaldroad On the contrary, I'd love to have been there! THe atmosphere must have been electric, and at the end of the day, these tunes are to be celebrated and danced to, and above all, they're fun!

  • @tradirishmusic Remind me not to go to a gig with you! I was at this gig. Id never heard of Mr Hayes before and he played the gig of the festival blowing everyone else off stage. People were still talking about the gig at electric picnic this year, there were probably only about 1000 of us there. It was great to see such a fine musician in such an unpompous setting. I would hate to part with my money to see him at a sterile venue such as the Albert hall where I couldnt dance, politely clapping

  • what are these tunes called?

  • @JackyRowe First one is Feabhra by Peadar O'Riada. Second tune is P. Joe's Reel. Third tune is The Mountain Lark.. Fourth tune is Tom Doherty's.

    Fierce set...

  • @WobblingFiddle ah, thanks!! i've got to learn them they sound so much fun!

  • @WobblingFiddle actually i've been asked to play a wedding in june, and this would be amazing!

  • This has to be one of the best bits of live footage I have ever seen... thank you Mr.O'Reilly

  • Now this is wonderful!! This is definitely the type of Celtic music I have to listen to. If I listen to the slow haunting balads...I cry like a fool!! Haha!! Thank you for sending this to me mylesoreilly. This music is what is mostly played here in the States in the "deep south". Along the lines of bluegrass & cajun...which we all know has it's roots in Celtic music such as this. Just so much fun!!!! :)

  • It's so weird seeing trad outside of a trad setting for once.

The lack of pompous bullsh!t is refreshing.

This is an absolutely amazing video... thx for sending the link!

  • Thank you Myles for sending me this link. I really enjoyed being back with them again. There is no one like Martin. He is one of my most admired people for his talent and kindness and generosity for teaching and sharing his music and vision with the rest of us. Love it.

    MadriverP.

  • This song brings me back to ireland and has african drums. I´ve never been to africa and I´ve been 4 times to ireland. I think it´s a very good fusion between the music of all worlds. Let´s have a Muphy´s! In case of irish music I like especially Iona! Slainte`! Very good!

  • wow, quite an intense performance. love it! they'd be welcome on canadian soil anytime!! ;) like the video work as well Myles. the drumming lead-in is quite phenomenal too, capturing the energy and vibe of the fest. well done mate!

  • o.k, nice...

  • Great work myles. Thanks for putting in the effort to make this video. I wasn't aware that Martin Hayes played Electric Picnic! I'm amazed at what a positive response he received at a festival that is headlined by so many prominent pop and rock bands.

  • Very well done. Love the black & white ♪♫ ♥
