F1 car would make a veyron look like a 1.2 Clio, no comparison, veyron has no downforce, f1 car would be about 30-40 seconds faster round a track like silverstone. That's how fast they are. I've been to grandprixs and the cornering speed is almost unbelievable.

@espjuan in normal regular life, a 3 litre V10 is big.. especially when a 2.5litre V6 looks fat like an impreza, or an evo... and the V8 in F1 isn't producing 22k rpm'cause it's limited at 18k... the V10 could do it as well.. if it wouldn't be limited..

Higher downforce is generated by higher air pressure on the body panels, wings etc.

You get higher pressure by traveling fast thru the air.

F1's might not be able to take a specific corner in 80mph, but in 150mph it's able to.

When starting from zero mph, the car has zero downforce.

If it wouldnt be the same pressure inside as outside, don't you think you would feel it when going outside in your ears?

No, YOU'RE wrong. Why shouldn't you get downforce indoors? It's not a vacuum in that big hall, there is air in there, same as outside. Okay the pressure and temperature might be a bit different but you'll still get downforce of some sort.

The reason it wasn't as fast was because the tyres weren't designed to work on a smooth shiny surface like the one in that hall. They're designed to work on rough tarmac like on a race track.

Let me tell you this: I studied Aerospace Engineering for 3 years at university and at no point did they they tell us that a wing will only produce aerodynamic lift above 60 mph. Is that a new law that you've just made up? Of course you get some downforce at those speeds, not a lot but enough to help F1 cars get round those tight corners.

And by the way, don't call anyone stupid until you get your facts right!

I wasn't particularly referring to you, sorry dude. Might I add that F1 wings arn't meant to produce lift?? Quite the opposite in fact. I didnt study this, I work in the industry. I know this. And it is a fact that downforce wings are basically useless below 60 mp/h. Sure, a smidge of downforce is generated, but this is completely negligable when you consider the mass of the car. Mechanical grip is all that helps around slow corners, and F1 cars have tons of mechanical grip. Facts=straight

Fine, and when I used the term 'lift' I meant the generic term for force produced by a wing or airfoil section, which in this case acts in a downward direction. I am fully aware that F1 cars don't want upward lift produced by their wings.

Anyway, with this clip it was all about the tyres and their lack of grip on the smooth floor.

All of this talk about traction control, and yet I don't see anything about the fact that the car was basically on hard slicks. It would be pretty impossible to get traction on the polished floor, while it still being an F1 car.

F1 cars don't need traction control. A true racing car does not need electronic gizmos to kill the power to the rear wheels when there is slip. That is what the drivers brain and right foot are for.
