  • A real treat to my eyes and ears, what a great song, brings back such good times in my small fried brain. Drinking cold beer, smoking and listening to the Allman Brothers years ago.Thank you SeleniumRectifier!!!!!!!!

  • @682429john - You're welcome. Nice to hear that an upload is so appreciated.

  • I would pay for a quality version of this on mp3.. anyone know anything?

  • @deftox - Not aware of one. I'm hoping to upload a better file of this performance sometime soon, but I still wouldn't characterize it as "quality"

  • My daughter is called Melissa so I downloaded several videos like this....

  • Happy Birthday you dear man ! God willing, you will remain in great health and continue to give the world more of your beautiful music !

  • just so you know i named my baby girl after this song melissa succh a sweet song

  • I saw them for the 7th time last week in Boston, it never gets old.....still phenomenal with Derek & Warren. My favorite band of all time!!!!

  • This sounds like its a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of another 50 copies.

  • @NiNE1911 - That's pretty much exactly what it is, but I'm glad there's 728,000 views and 857 "likes."

  • OH MY GOD That is awesome. I have loved these boys since the 70's cuz I am an old fart. This is an amazing version. And we just knew then it was good and doesn't it just stand the test of time? Time to crack open another beer, hit replay and send the link to my son the musician. He'll love it.

  • perfect 10!

  • 33 years old. I wonder how many people my age listen to this music. And I know the story of the Allman Brothers. The emotion is visceral.

  • @Itakeonlinesurveys8 dont know who u are but right on named my baby girl melissa cuz of this beautiful song

  • @davehiggins17 Thanks for the vote of confidence.

  • Amazing rhythm and lyrics by Gregg but jesus christ, Dickie on that solo acoustic was something else!

  • WOW! These guys are believable, the timing the tempo... The newer versions of THE ABB accurately reflect this model.. Warren and Derek and Sue are all awesome... it is so cool that the ABB is as good as well...ever. Peace,Health

  • i named my daughter after this song

  • Funny to hear my name in a song hehe

  • Make that two Melissas for me and one for my horse.

  • When writing this song Greg couldn't think of a name to use ,

until one day he was in a store when a little girl ran by, and her

mother yelled out " Melissa get back here , Melissa , Melissa !!! "

  • No one does it better then the Allman Bros. Thanks for the memories.

  • Does anyone know if this concert is on an album?

  • It just don't get no better!!!!

  • 14 people really don't know what good music is.

  • @trojanguy85 bwah bwah, do people STILL bitch about "dislikes" on youtube?!

  • @stagm3 No. I don't care that they disliked it. They just don't know what good music is. That's all.

  • That's great! Thanks for this.

  • Listening to these guys do this song is about the most fun and pleasure you can have and still have your clothes on. Allman Brothers have been rocking me since the great lyrics "born in the back seat of a greyhound bus". A lot of years and a lot of good easy listening. THANKS FOR THE POST !

  • My brother named his daughter after this song, and we have played it since she was very young. She posted this version it today, her birthday, on Facebook!

  • @11creativecats Your such a dick.

  • This song is just beautiful and the live version is even better. The lyrics mean something different to everyone. No-one can tell you what they mean, you just have to listen to the song and find out yourself...

  • Gregg and Dickey should tour (again) as a duo. Coffee house style.

  • If he stayed in that tuning, kept in that mode, he could do a second part to a medley, with the tune, "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" .. two of my favorite artists who did that tune were Eva Cassidy and Judy Collins. I think there was a 3rd person who did it to ..possibly Jennifer Warnes? I wonder if the Allman Brothers got their idea for Sweet Melissa from the writer of "Who Knows Where The Time Goes"?

  • Thank you for posting this. This is an awesome song.

  • this song is dedicated to my late sister Melissa n my great niece my sisters granddaughter Melissa...

  • Who Thinks Which Is Better ... LITTLE MARTHA ... Or ... BLACKBIRD ... By The Beatles ??????

  • CHRISTINE BLEAKLEY

  • June 5 11:30pm...just got home from the Taste of Syracuse event in Syracuse New York where the 2nd day top performer FOR FREE was none other than GREGG ALLMAN!!! And he was fantastic!! Forgot the words to one song but that was the only glitch other than that he was soulful and beautiful as ever. I can't believe I saw him for free! He played Melissa, Whipping Post, Statesboro Blues, I'm no Angel...so many great songs. He looks older but he's still beautiful...

  • i was named after this :p

  • @xmelissamadnesss whoever is responsible for that idea is a fucking great person :)

  • @NeverBandProject heheheh.

  • @xmelissamadnesss So was I ! :)

  • Dickie Betts is a beast

  • Such a great song-top 10 of my Favorites!

  • Wow, that is Warren Haynes, I believe. One of the best around. Such a great tune.

  • @jameshocutt Just thought the SAME thing. "Wait, was that Warren?" People look different twenty years later.

  • I was lucky and got to record this MTV unplugged show when it first aired. Shortly after my friend "lost " the video tape. Was the first time I had ever heard Warren Haynes and Alan Woody !! Great show. Now I can pick up my guitar again and try to keep up again :) Thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ... If I was there, I would have clapped too :)

  • I hope my neighbors like this song...

  • All I can say is "The Allman Bros Band" will live longer than Me and I will listen to them as long as I'm alive

  • ...and all those memories come crushin' down.

  • What I hated about this show was the audience applauded during the song.Cool show but the audience wouldnt shut up and listen.

  • Thankyou so much for posting this. I've been listening to the Allman Bros. since i was 12/13 yrs old (50 this year) and i have never in all that time heard any "unplugged".

    Made my night.

Gonna open another beer and play it again.

  • yay my name is MELISSA.hahaha

  • I fucking hate when audiences sit there and clap during the song. IDIOTS.

  • Sweet!!!

  • I remember when this first aired. I had never heard of Warren Haynes before this, but it wasn't long after that I found out he was more fluid than Dickey Betts, but Dickey's 'stache will always be sweeter.

Dig that harmony that starts at 5:10

  • I read somewhere that this was the first song Greg Allman ever wrote.

  • nine people don't know the true meaning of music. these guys were fuckin' great! in my opinion they one of many helping hands in shaping music to it's pinnacle.

@jodee313 i'm totally going to make one of those right now and drink to this song!

  • is it just me or does he have a dip in lol.... beautiful song

  • damn son... that is a smooth sound. if i could bottle it and make an alcohol out of it i wouldnt even change the name..."yeah ill have a sweet melissa..." would be heard throughout bars across the world.

  • @Tommy1977777 ...LoL

  • @Tommy1977777 We actually have a drink called "Sweet Melissa" in our neighborhood. It's vodka, cranberry juice, and a splash of pineapple juice. We named it after my neighbor had several of them one afternoon and his wife, Melissa got mad at him. She wasn't too sweet that day! lol

  • @Tommy1977777 Great idea

  • @Tommy1977777 Why we named our daughter Melissa.

  • @ytdfinke23 where do you think he was gifted from? :)

  • @superbong69 I think occasionally you like to admire your own work.

  • @ytdfinke23 if there was a god

  • @Freethinker12341 think freely my friend, to each his own

  • @ytdfinke23 i agree, one should think* freely. but that doesn't mean we can go around saying whatever we want, not all of us believe there is a god but you dont see me imposing my thoughts on others

  • @Freethinker12341 I can say whatever I want, and so can you. You did impose your thoughts on others, and that's OK; didn't hurt my feelings at all.

  • @Freethinker12341

You just... DID impose your thoughts on youtube on others....freethinker.

I have a thought as well, as you think freely try not to cockblock other thinkers:) peace and love.

  • @ytdfinke23 Truer words have never been spoken...

  • @ytdfinke23 Amen, brother. Got Duane up ther with him listening too.

  • Greg Allman's voice gently reaches in, takes hold of your soul, and releases the chains holding in our deepest emotions.

  • @sdb5151225

lol that sounded like a movie review..

but yes indeed, it takes u somewhere..

  • Honestly how do 7 people actually dislike such a beautiful song.

  • @dhz35

trolls, i am a troll at heart, i clicked dislike, and adore theis song!!!

  • Isn't this about the time he gave Cher a big BONO?

  • Beautiful song! Dickey Betts plays such a soulful sweet lead in this song it just blows me away! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • I am from serbia and this is my favorite song

  • @skeki12

I am from Québec and this is also my favorite

  • What bothers me even more is that we are being discouraged from being self sufficient, accountable people. Accountable to the creator and to ourselves. Have charity for those less fortunate and believe in something greater than ourselves. It seems more and more that puppet governments are dictating what we can say, do... and soon think. We will be living in a prison planet if we don't wake up.

  • Man, Dicky Betts' guitar is from another planet.

  • is this part of a commercial DVD live concert you can purchase? i would love to buy it. thanks for the post this is a great video.

  • is this part of a commercial video you can buy to see a live concert? I would love to purchase it! thanks for the post.

  • Notice no Fenders and no cutaways.

  • Lived in Cali, awesome place, however doesn't compare to the East Coast! You get use to that smell, maybe what inspired Lynyrd Skynyrd, and before everyone gets crazy I know that's not what the song is about. Whiskey bottles, brand new car, oak tree your in my way! :)

  • I've seen these guys at least 25 times from bars to sold out colliseums. Even got to meet them once backstage and share a few beers on stage. During the "Eat a Peach" era there was no tighter live band in the world. And that includes the" Dead". These guys were real musicians and no one sang the blues like Gregg. The closest today in live performance would probably be Dave Mathews Band

  • Beautiful music

  • u never ben to real cali Brian

  • wow...so moving

  • My all time favorite band! nothing compares..

  • Didn't realize this was about their brother until just now. Post on YouTube. Man. I hear it.

  • saturday mornings.........

  • could use some criticism on my cover.

  • is that warren haynes on the left??

  • The song was not written about Melissa E.

It was written about his brother Duane.

  • @19551960 It was written in '67, well before Duane died in '71.

  • mrkelseykenny love this song, the real thing,IN THE MUSIC OF THIS BAND I HAVE

ALLWAYS FELT A REALITY OF MEANING!WHAT I"M SAYING IS THEIR MUSIC

    WARMS MY HEART&SOUL!!!!!!!!!!!!
