Oh-hoh. Clash on the bridge huh? Final Fantasy 5's should've taken this spot, as well as it's many guitar remixes out there.
Seriously, once you listen to the guitar remix of the original clash on the bridge, this one feels highly underwhelming.
But nevertheless, it is still a good orchestral version. Just not as epic as the fan guitar versions, sadly. Of course, that depends on how much you like electric guitar.
I have heard many different versions of this song, including The Black Mages one, and while they are nice, they are not game tracks.
Also, i really can't agree on the FF V version taking this spot. It's great and all, but this version is absolutely perfect for the game it is in. It also has a deeper feel to it than the original, to me.
Between the original and this version, I'd say this one is better, I've always liked Orchestrated versions. More of an epic feel to them. But really, who could not like the original?
Now see, that's where I can agree with you. This fits the "Ivalice Alliance" parts of the Final Fantasy Series, which, I am sorry to say, only bears a passing resemblence to the series in name alone. Is this a good song? Most definately! The thing is that I perfer the original simply because I enjoy Uematsu-sama's rendition of Final Fantasy better than Sakamoto-sama's Final Fantasy. You are right, though. He did an amazing job for Valkyria Chronicles!
Not to bash on you judgement, Tomenaki (Out of all the users who have posted these lists, you and Setyll have got the most taste), but how could consider this dull song, which is almost void of energy, over its original. I love Sakamoto's score for FFXII, but this one song is probably my least favorite video game song, ever! It butchers the energy of the original classic, and almost makes a mockery of it.
What i like about this version is (i hate to say this part) not only the updated instrumentation, but how it actually fits into the world FF XII even though it's a "throwback" song. Hitoshi did a fair job on FF XII, but i know he's capable of more. Look at Odin Sphere and Valkyria Chronicles.
But we each have our favorites. I liked the original, and i've liked most of the remixes i've heard so far, but this one beats the original by a small margin, to me.
"Enough expositionary banter! Now we fight like men...and ladies...and ladies who dress like men! For Gilgamesh, IT IS MORPHING TIME!"
