Did anyone think of Avatar when watching the video? I'm going to become a Sylvari Elementalist along with my brother. The endless scenery suits me best.
To the people pointing out the similarities between the Grove and Pandora-- I'd like to point out that GW2 has been in production for 5 years (since 2006). Avatar came out in 2009. Arena net has 3 years on Avatar.
I have to say this: the main raeson why I play wow is the smooth enginge and the time you cast your spells is just perfect and even star wars was way slower than wow, I do not see why one shouldn't just copy the awesome parts of an engine instead of useless interface deisgns
I think this area of the game looks pretty spot-on. I wouldn't mind if they had upped the textures a notch for some of the assets, but I guess the people to blame for that are the penny-pinching low-speccers who still use their 2005 rigs. I look forward to this!
@MPH4991 What has anything to do with elitism? It isn't hard to save up to a decent computer by 2012 standards. I just think it's lame that the hard work of the developers and that the quality of the game should have to suffer because a large portion of the playerbase prefer spending their money on other things.
MMO's are a personal preference thing, one is not better than the other, it's just whatever suits YOU best. I like WoW and Guld Wars, I don't see why there has to be these 'sides' where if you like one you have to hate the others. WoW is not a bad game, it is just slowly aging as it has been around for so long. So of course these new MMO's are going to have a massive advantage over it with graphics and mechanics, but that does not make it a bad game. Anyway I am looking forward to GW2.
I love Star Wars and ToR seems like a crap game to me. I love Warhammer and Warhammer Online is pretty mediocre.
The thing about Guild wars is that APARENTLY is going to be the next decent quality mmo in the market after so many consecutive failures (including The Old Republic).

This is different, flower people. So do they sit in dirt and bask in the sun instead of eating? I quit Wow years ago because it felt like a second job, Not sure I like every aspect of GW 2 but there is a lot I do like so I'm going to give this a try.
I'm so happy with how this game looks. I've been waiting 7 or 8 months for this game and it's gonna be so much fun. But don't get me wrong, I like a lot of mmos. including wow. Well, more accurately, I respect wow, and Blizzard, because they really don't do any half-assed stuff. I just don't play wow, I like the style in GW2 better. Plus I'm not a fan of the 10 bucks a month thing. But hey, 12000000000 think know it's worth it, right?
This is an MMO for people who ENJOY stories, lore, backgrounds, environments, and RPing with solid combat thrown in. Not raiding, not class builds and archetypes, and not epic loot. Actually from what I've seen, it's actually one of the most innovative game out there in general.
If you want the latter, go play WoW or RIFT. Stop bothering people who actually want to enjoy a game for it's story and not it's PWN NEWBZ potential.
anyone heard of no healer, or tank, or death penalty? althogh they may be good but death penalty? what keeping someone from going into high lvl mobs or screwing over people in raids and stuff, dp makes people get better and avoid death and fear it, no tanks and healers? i dont like that idea cause i loved playing a healer and now they removed it, the more i hear about the game the less i wanna play it.
@darkrai9000 The no healer and no tank is because you can actually dodge attacks from monsters. You aren't automatically hit. You cant shoot through people and objects if your targeted person is standing behind somebody you hit that other person. They are basically taking a action game but still trying to keep some of the old mmo feel of targeting and move selection. If you die that's because you aren't playing good enough you aren't depending on others.
@TharusPSN no, instead of adding things they are removing some, im a healer myself and i loved it, second no death penalty? u cant argue over those if u dont learn from death u wont hate it, thus u wont care to improve.
@darkrai9000 well 99% of action games don't have a death penalty except return to the previous check point which is what this game does.... and this game is trying to be more of a action game. Dying a lot of times itself will teach you to improve punishment is just another way mmos try to string you long for more time so you keep subscribing to them.

No more being hit if your in a giant hit box, no more being hit around a corner as the projectile heat seeks, no more needing a tank and healer to compensate for those magical you cant dodge with skill attacks, no more needing a healer to compensate for needing the tank, and no more shooting through people. Have you seen the boss fights in GUild Wars 2 and level 1? No? Look it up and you'll see just how fun it is. Who cares about endgame when it's mixed with early game?! Guild Wars 2 is going to break the tradition and it will not kill wow, but it will be better. I am looking forward to it.

@darkrai9000 Ok, blizzard isn't a bad company because it made Warcraft 3, TFT, Diablo 2 and Starcraft. WoW was fun, up until TBC. That's when it hit 11 million subscribers. It hasn't gained subs, but rather lose a lot of then since WOTLK and cata. It's a really bad game now and Guild Wars 2 is going to be better. Endgame is the part of the game when you are highest level. All the things you have there are present in the early game of Guild Wars w. Watch some videos. You'll see. Guild Wars 2 <3
@TheSupremeLeader1 0in gw2 u dont make a character for pvp, he comes fully geared, whats the fun of lvling? its a ruined concept wwit no sense of reward for getting items.
@darkrai9000 PVP and PVE are seperated, but you can use the same cahracter in both. In PVP you get full gear - equality amongst players, and all skills unlocked - PVP is based on skill. The reward is fun and a title or two :P PVE is progressive and you get armour rewards and giant epic boss fights from level 1. If you don't belive me watch the charr starter area or the human starter area in GW2. Best of everything mixed into one masterpice named Guild Wars 2.
@darkrai9000 You can choose to create a character in PVE and evolve and progress in PVE - leveling, gearing, and working towards the last level and the content there. Or you can choose to Go into PVP without leveling at level 80 with best armor - same as everyone else - a true test of skill. You can level up a character in PVP (World vs World vs World) or be max from start. That's waht's fun. EPic matches that take up to 4 maps. WoW was never that fun, even if you refuse to belive it.

@darkrai9000 You can still help in GW2. The Elementalist can make a healing stream of watter and healing rain. The Engenier has a whole med pack with skills. The Necromancer can make healing wells. The Guardian has symbols that heal(AoE). Warriors can carry bannors that buff/heal. Rangers can call on spirits of nature and buff/heal. There are so many ways to help, it'll take a lot of comments just to describe it.

So no healers but improved game mechanics that don't require healers to balance out the old broken wow mechanics where enemies always hit you. Lol death penalties are meant to add more hoops for you to jump through so you subscribe longer. Your trying to justify old mechanics that have needed to die for years.

@darkrai9000 wow has the easiest learning curve in all of mmos. Its almost all gear based every aspect of it. And in guild wars 2 you have to go back to the previous check point station so how is 30 seconds running back to your spot from the check point any different than corpse walking 30 seconds to your corpse....
@darkrai9000 lol i'm the blind fanboy? Mmos have always had poor mechanics but lots of bang for your buck. Every other type of game has superior control and combat mechanics but its that way because mmo tech has had trouble with accurately tracking people and accurately track hit detection. Enemies that always hit, big hit boxes, and homing projectiles were the answer to not being able to accurately track hit detection. And healers and tanks were the answer to solving those problems.
@darkrai9000 If you remove the problems themselves or severely limit them then you don't have the need for the other crutches that separate mmo mechanics from action games.

@darkrai9000 I live my life looking forward to happy and fun times. Life is challenging, but I do not fear the unknown. I do not know what comes after death and I do not fear it. I look to make my life as close to perfect as I can. The game is in closed alpha and still better than WoW. The dissapointments won't be much compared to how awsome the game is so far. Many people don't fear death. Great people from the past never feared death, and I don't fear death also.

I'm so happy with how this game looks. I've been waiting 7 or 8 months for this game and it's gonna be so much fun. But don't get me wrong, I like a lot of mmos. including wow. Well, more accurately, I respect wow, and Blizzard, because they really don't do any half-assed stuff. I just don't play wow, I like the style in GW2 better. Plus I'm not a fan of the 10 bucks a month thing. But hey, 12000000000 think know it's worth it, right?

This is an MMO for people who ENJOY stories, lore, backgrounds, environments, and RPing with solid combat thrown in. Not raiding, not class builds and archetypes, and not epic loot. Actually from what I've seen, it's actually one of the most innovative game out there in general.
If you want the latter, go play WoW or RIFT. Stop bothering people who actually want to enjoy a game for it's story and not it's PWN NEWBZ potential.

anyone heard of no healer, or tank, or death penalty? althogh they may be good but death penalty? what keeping someone from going into high lvl mobs or screwing over people in raids and stuff, dp makes people get better and avoid death and fear it, no tanks and healers? i dont like that idea cause i loved playing a healer and now they removed it, the more i hear about the game the less i wanna play it.

@darkrai9000 The no healer and no tank is because you can actually dodge attacks from monsters. You aren't automatically hit. You cant shoot through people and objects if your targeted person is standing behind somebody you hit that other person. They are basically taking a action game but still trying to keep some of the old mmo feel of targeting and move selection. If you die that's because you aren't playing good enough you aren't depending on others.

@darkrai9000 well 99% of action games don't have a death penalty except return to the previous check point which is what this game does.... and this game is trying to be more of a action game. Dying a lot of times itself will teach you to improve punishment is just another way mmos try to string you long for more time so you keep subscribing to them.

You talk about dodging in this MMO as if you played it yesterday. You can go back to WoW that's DYING on it's own and we'll get GW2 when it comes out and actually play something different that doesn't revolve around the Holy Trinity, kill 10 trolls quests, LF HEALER LUL PAYING 400K bullshit, and gameplay that requires actual skill.
Mages and rangers can dodge quite nicely too.

I already know and have seen the game and I am going to buy it and play with friends. Progress and innovation, beauty and music, battles and epic time. All this things are already there. Have you seen the boss fights in GUild Wars 2 and level 1? No? Look it up and you'll see just how fun it is. Who cares about endgame when it's mixed with early game?! @darkrai9000 Ok, blizzard isn't a bad company because it made Warcraft 3, TFT, Diablo 2 and Starcraft. WoW was fun, up until TBC. That's when it hit 11 million subscribers. It hasn't gained subs, but rather lose a lot of then since WOTLK and cata. It's a really bad game now and Guild Wars 2 is going to be better. Endgame is the part of the game when you are highest level. All the things you have there are present in the early game of Guild Wars w. Watch some videos. You'll see. Guild Wars 2 <3

@darkrai9000 PVP and PVE are seperated, but you can use the same cahracter in both. In PVP you get full gear - equality amongst players, and all skills unlocked - PVP is based on skill. The reward is fun and a title or two :P PVE is progressive and you get armour rewards and giant epic boss fights from level 1. If you don't belive me watch the charr starter area or the human starter area in GW2. Best of everything mixed into one masterpice named Guild Wars 2.

@darkrai9000 You can choose to create a character in PVE and evolve and progress in PVE - leveling, gearing, and working towards the last level and the content there. Or you can choose to Go into PVP without leveling at level 80 with best armor - same as everyone else - a true test of skill. You can level up a character in PVP (World vs World vs World) or be max from start. That's waht's fun. EPic matches that take up to 4 maps. WoW was never that fun, even if you refuse to belive it.

@darkrai9000 You can still help in GW2. The Elementalist can make a healing stream of watter and healing rain. The Engenier has a whole med pack with skills. The Necromancer can make healing wells. The Guardian has symbols that heal(AoE). Warriors can carry bannors that buff/heal. Rangers can call on spirits of nature and buff/heal. There are so many ways to help, it'll take a lot of comments just to describe it.

So no healers but improved game mechanics that don't require healers to balance out the old broken wow mechanics where enemies always hit you. Lol death penalties are meant to add more hoops for you to jump through so you subscribe longer. Your trying to justify old mechanics that have needed to die for years.

@darkrai9000 wow has the easiest learning curve in all of mmos. Its almost all gear based every aspect of it. And in guild wars 2 you have to go back to the previous check point station so how is 30 seconds running back to your spot from the check point any different than corpse walking 30 seconds to your corpse....

@darkrai9000 lol i'm the blind fanboy? Mmos have always had poor mechanics but lots of bang for your buck. Every other type of game has superior control and combat mechanics but its that way because mmo tech has had trouble with accurately tracking people and accurately track hit detection. Enemies that always hit, big hit boxes, and homing projectiles were the answer to not being able to accurately track hit detection. And healers and tanks were the answer to solving those problems.

@darkrai9000 I live my life looking forward to happy and fun times. Life is challenging, but I do not fear the unknown. I do not know what comes after death and I do not fear it. I look to make my life as close to perfect as I can. The game is in closed alpha and still better than WoW. The dissapointments won't be much compared to how awsome the game is so far. Many people don't fear death. Great people from the past never feared death, and I don't fear death also.

Btw, the biggest fanboy is you I guess, as you're defending blizzard against a "bad" game. So why defend it so badly if GW2 is going to suck so bad hmm?
