What does this Zionist have to say about the Canadian Parliamentary Coalition to Combat Antisemitism, a group that seeks to make criticism of Israel illegal.
BTW, I think this interviewer was excellent. He asked all the right questions at all the angles possible and respected Levant enough to allow him to answer them. This is an example of an exchange of ideas and how they should be protected. I'm not certain of the interviewer's actual views, but I rarely see this kind of respectful exchange on most interview shows.
Wow, I just realized Ezra is a lowly clone of Stephen Harper.
hey, zionists, Jesus is going to take Israel from you. You can spit on Christians all you want, you will be licking it off the ground very, very soon.
I predict Ez will end up going back to Israel on his hands and knee's begging Ben to give him one more chance, "that those dumb canucks will fall in line", only the mossad's SUNTV needs more time.
I bet you and the others are getting death threats everyday now.
glibgalbgloob you are either retarded or not very bright so I won't bother trying to explain how affirmative action is by its very nature, racist because you obviously are too much of a left wing moron to understand that but your slavish support of the so called human rights commissions is typical of progressive zombie pseudo-comms and for someone who is a HRC groupie you seem to not see your own hate speech
@glibglabgloob I agree... hate speach is not judged on how it is percieved but the content of what is communicated... how it targets and denigrates facts. Until he starts talking about hate speach for what it is I can't see him moving his agenda forward.
Many of you proudly racist, hateful bigots don't understand why we have hate speech laws in the first place. It's the same idea as affirmative action. It's always the racists and the bigots who complain the loudest about how unjust these things are, but affirmative action and hate speech laws were created BECAUSE of racist bigots. It is harmful to society to allow people to spread racial tension and hatred around the country. There is no good reason to behave like that in the first place.
BTW, I harbour no ill feelings towards jews. But I shouldn't be trying to make myself clear on that point since what I wrote it perfectly ok, because it's free speech right?
Whoosh. The point goes over your head. What you wrote isn't "right" but you shouldn't go in front of a star chamber because you wrote it. The left's hatred of jews, individual freedom, religion etc is what it is. Ezra's point is that the entire left shouldn't be put into chains for their hatred, merely marginalised - as they have been in this past election.
It's interesting that among the things he didn't think should be subject to free speech he didn't mention racist hateful rhetoric. He is advocating freedom of speech as a defense for racism, bigotry and inflammatory rhetoric. It says a lot about him.
Not that you people have any clue what it is like to be a marginalized minority and be a target for ignorant Canadian hillbillies. Yeah those immigrants are such pussies. Why should their dignity be protected? It's not like allowing hate speech to thrive and spread will put people at risk and foment a hateful and bigoted environment, where people are comfortable with their racism. Freedom of speech right boys? Easy to say when you're the dominant "race".
It's funny, many of you people that stick up for this asslicker are, as far as I am concerned, racist pricks. "Oh the race card, freedom of speech, communism WAA WAAA WAAAAA" Seems to me you people are the real sensitive bitches. You just can't bare to go on living if you can't make racial slurs huh? That's the issue of free speech that you think is the most important? "We have to fight for our right to be racist bigots!"
You right wingers are the only pussies I see. You hide behind freedom of speech. Seriously, especially cylusfox04, go up to a black person and call them a nigger. Do it mr. tough guy free speech. Then call the black person a sensitive pussy for getting offended.
You also failed to comment on the rest of what I wrote, about how bigots and right wingers always hide behind free speech and refuse to acknowledge their responsibility in utilizing their free speech. It's what racists do, they cry free speech to legitimize their hatred. You right wingers, like cylusfox04, are like high school douche bags, "hey if you get offended you're a pussy for getting your feelings hurt." Easy to say when you are a white person.
Alright qtutoringhelps you go up to the next black guy you see and call him a dirty nigger. Then pat him on the back and say "hey, it's free speech". Freedom of speech is, in principle, absolute. But there can't be absolute freedoms. Freedom of speech still comes with responsibilities and consequences. Personally, I don't get offended when someone uses the word nigger, but then again, it isn't applicable to me is it. It's not a matter of sensitivities, it's a matter of social harmony.
Many of you probably think the right to be an offensive, racist, sexist hate mongering bigot is somehow a true expression of free speech. It isn't. Those who are hateful and bigoted hide behind the concept of unbound free speech so they don't have to account for what they are saying. They can sit there and no matter the damage their invective might be causing, they are allowed to continue. I'm sorry but here in Canada we don't tolerate intolerance, we put our boot on it's throat and we stomp.
"Many of you probably think the right to be an offensive, racist, sexist hate mongering bigot is somehow a true expression of free speech. It isn't."
So "free speech" means only speech you deem to be inoffensive to your sensitivities? Why not just call it government-regulated speech, then? The whole point of "free speech" is to protect the most offensive kind of speech. People who never disagree or say anything controversial don't need their speech protected.
This guy just doesn't get it and neither do many of you it seems. He says that people who say hateful or offensive things get naturally marginalized. That is only true when the hateful or offensive view is held by few people. What happens when the majority of people hold the view that, say, muslims shouldn't be allowed to own guns. Or what happens when the majority believe that blacks should ride at the back of the bus? This guy can't see past his own glasses.
This has absolutely nothing to do with "being offended" once again, this little turd is misrepresenting the issue. People don't have the right not to be offended. However, people DO have the right not to be the victims of hate speech. Do you people think you have the right to, say, call a black person a nigger? Should you be able to publish articles calling aboriginals less than human? If you think free speech gives you those rights you have serious problems and should move to the US.
The guy he is talking about who was "being rude" is named John Ross Talyor and was the first person charged under hate crime laws. The man was a raging anti-semite, racist and white supremacist. He was more than just "mean and offensive". From Wiki: "In the 1980s, Taylor was twice found in contempt of court for refusing to comply with a 1979 order by the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal to end his recorded "White Power" messages on the Western Guard Party's phone line." And there is much more.
You people think that's Canada? A place where people can preach hate to others without reprucussion? Without consequence? Do you people actually use your brains? It's like the argument over unions. Right winger attack unions all the time, they're corrupt, they're this they're that. Do you people understand why we have unions? Same reason we have hate speech laws and HRC. To protect the minority from the majority. The irony is of course that most discrimination and prejudice comes from the right.
This guy is pure scum. He thinks hate comes from a "grievance real or imagined" what a moron. What a shallow stunted thinker. His comment only makes sense if hate is rational, but most of the time it isn't. It isn't about grievance. Almost all hate comes from ignorance and feelings of superiority. He is pruposefully misrepresenting the issue the coward. If it was up to him it would be perfectly ok to call black people niggers, cat call women and disparage muslims because of the acts of a few.
You people DO realize there is a reason we have these commissions and hate speech laws right? Why we have laws against racist or sexist rhetoric? It's funny, you right wing scum are always going on about personal repsonsibility. You think free speech is absolute? You don't think free speech comes with responsibility? You think you can just say whatever you want without consequences? If it wasn't for intolerant right wing discrimination we wouldn't have made these laws in the first place.
I agree with Ezra when it comes to the human rights commissions but I disagree with his stance on other issues always supporting Alberta at the expense of the rest of the country - the best example of this is the oilsands. No one who has ethics can support destroying planet earth in the name of short term greed and profit - yet somehow because Alberta is doing it Ezra tries to justify it.
It's funny how Ezra talks about being marginalized for saying dumb things (like Parizeau) and having stupid views when the only people who take him seriously or people on the far-right political fringes. Ezra's views have absolutely no mainstream clout.
"But doesn't having a law against hate beneficial?" No, because it turns your nation into a bunch of pussies. If you have to complain to the government that someone hurt your feelings, grow a pair and get over it.
"Likely" to expose one to hatred and contempt. The word "likely" means that the alleged offence didn't occur yet but to some degree may or may not!
That's like the Minority Report without any certainty. Wow. This is one of the reasons why there's no right not to be offended. Imagine how relationships would work if such a right existed?
I recommend Ezra's book Shakedown highly. If you think Canada is some bastion of human rights you will have your eyes opened. The government is infringing more and more on our rights every day without people like Ezra exposing this no media will ever inform the average citizen of this. Some of the cases that are covered in this book are unbelievable and show that our government is indeed a sham.
@kyuss4me Yes, Shakedown is an excellent read not just for the HRC cases he exposes, but for his analysis of just what freedom of speech is - i.e., we must let our enemies have the right to say what they want so that we too will have "the right to be dissidents" as he says in the video. Also his suggestions on the right direction Canada must go in the future. Very provocative, yet very sensible. I've said this before, but Ezra Lavant will go down as a great Canadian hero.
@brando92346 Agreed...I've had my feelings hurt plenty of times but hey it's "freedom" of speech not oh you hurt my feelings so I should open up an HRC case so you don't hurt my feelings again. Freedom of speech for me and freedom of speech for Camel riders just the same. Thanks for the response to my comment.
@kyuss4me just an observation: I'm Canadian, but I live in the US and have for many years now. It seems to me that there's a lot of Canadians who want to shy away from doing things "the American way," which I can understand completely except when what's "the American way" is also "the Canadian way" when it comes to rights of free speech, and so legislators pick up on that and are simply using Canadian uniqueness and identity as an excuse for tyranny. So now "the Sharia way" is preferable?
@brando92346 No kidding eh... I think there is a large chunk of the Canadian population that has bought the whole multicultural, overly politically correct, "we are the world" load of crap we are supposed to believe in today. So much so that eventually the tyranny in which you speak of will attempt to silence you if not jail you if you don't believe in it.
@kyuss4me If you knew anything about this man you'd know that hes pro government. He votes for the party that is infringing on your rights. You Conservatives are a bunch of fucked up Christians with fucked up ideas.
@dirkshrubb I'm not a conservative nor am I a christian. I have read Lavant's book and followed his case as it unfolded in real time. I care not about his personal politics nor his religious beliefs or anything else about the man personally. I care about free speech. If you educated yourself a little instead of throwing around insults and calling people names you would realize that Lavant is fighting for your rights, unless you support government backed witch hunts against white people.
Today he called for a Jew hunt on CBC with Evan Soloman... For some odd reason, it was edited out of the podcast, and no one has posted the segment... I am so disappointed... I was to see it on Youtube
Evan sat there with a smile on his face, while he went on a serious rant about jews taking over... Evan just let him go on and on...
Folks.. if you think Ezra's experience was bad..WAIT till you see how it pans out in Victoria Australia where the Government has just introduced the "Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Reform bill" it has passed the lower house and they have the numbers in the Upper house.. so..it should pass into law very soon.
Among the 'reforms' are giving the HRC's a NEW power.. to 'INITIATE' actions rather that responding to complaints as the Canadian ones need to do.
@Jesus4forver This is a statement that is likely to expose a member of a minority group to hatred. Ezra Levant could bring you before the HRC at your expense because you hurt his feelings.
The final point Levant makes is the most important one. In fact, it is not the accusers in Human Rights complaints that are usually impoverished. Rather, they are generally wealthy upper-class lawyers. It's the ACCUSED who are usually the impoverished ones, and it is their right to speak that is generally trampled.
There are, of course, some problems with Mr. Levant's civil libertarianism; but I would gladly accept those problems over the ones created through HRCs. Mr. Levant is well-versed in the areas of which he speaks, and he is a logical and articulate speaker. To be worried about speaking our opinions at risk of being called racist, homophobic, sexist, etc. even when that's clearly not the case is a contradiction to core Canadian values. Thank you for being so learned in the issue, Mr. Levant.
Interesting that this video can be flaged as containing "invalid arguments" (as if this were rare) but we dont need to be given information about which arguments are considered to be "invalid" and why?
Austin, when Levant is willing to publish a cartoon that shows Jesus ordering the bombing of abortion clinics, or beating up on gays, or something like that, then I'll buy his argument about free speech.
1. Which of the Danish cartoons is equal to insulting Muhammad as having a cartoon showing Jesus ordering the bombing of abortion clinics or beating up gays?
As cartoons go, the Danish cartoons are pretty bland. No?
2. Why would you think Levant would not be willing to publish such cartoons? Given that he is Jewish I doubt he would mind at all.
@212Austin212 More appropriately, the shoving Islam down every Canadian's throats Commission.
The latest debacle involves a comedy club and comedian being Kafka'ed for making a joke about a lesbian making out with her girlfriend in the front row who claims she suffered PTSD because he called her a dike.

Since when can you flag a video for having invalid arguments?
BoredomCorner 2 years ago
it used to say "invalid arguments" in a pink warning banner above this video.
If this was censorship and impartiality on the part of youtube, or if it was a technical glitch, the problem has been resolved.

As a compliment, an insult AND a statement of fact.

Please stop the Human Rights Commissions ... or at very least change the name to Protecting the Feelings of Islam Commissions.

Austin, when Levant is willing to publish a cartoon that shows Jesus ordering the bombing of abortion clinics, or beating up on gays, or something like that, then I'll buy his argument about free speech.
Until then, he doesn't seem very credible.

In a comedy club with a warning about vulgar content at the door.
