no pilot is actually the correct term in this case. a pilot is someone who nows the terrain of the river well enough to drive large craft through.

In harbors theres one guy who drives all the big ships off and he is the ONLY one allowed to drive them in that harbor. "harbor pilot" When he gets the boat out he is boated off and taken to the next ship.
