This video pretty much represents how stupid people are. For clarity: I agree with this video, people spamming APM, especially the pros, are just stupid and are actually pointlessly increasing the strain on their hands and fingers leading to a life with carpal tunnel. Honestly, watch a replay of one of the pros. They do this, but not only do they do it in the beginning, but during a (for example) terran bio-ball, they click the target 600 times for apm. People are pathetic. No help.
@NegaSyrus5000 You're an idiot rofl. Most pros have 85-90%++ EAPM, meaning 90% of their clicks are actually doing something. And no, it's not pointless. If you try going from 10 apm and jumping to 300 your hands are not going to react as accurately.
Besides, any decent pro is going to have to be able to maintain around that APM for up to an hour, so I doubt 30 seconds of extra spam is going to cause too much extra strain.

@Leischna, actually, SC2 already tries to countonly the effective APM, so it's lower than the APM measured by Replay analyzers or in SC1. But you couldn't code a tool as you describe there.
i mean it's nice that people who think they should upload a vid of themselfes just hacking their keyboard to tiny pieces and professional players have sick apm but i would like to see a tool or sth that counts the effective apm which would only count 1 action for every order that is given several times and that skips the whole apm spamming because if you reduce 400 or more apm to effective apm even a professional wouldn't get much higher than 200 or 250 even in critical situations i guess

ok idk if its a spam cause i do that and its a trick when you press the hot key but hold it slightly on my laptop and its like im pressing the button very fast but in reality im just holding it slightly downwards :P also allows me to get probes the milasecond its ready to make-em..
of course in the earlier points of the game your apm is obviously going to be lower, (using APM to mean actions per minute that are useful.) but it can still be upwards of 60+ while still having use, try actually micro'ing your workers and perfecting the ammount of resources you can collect by having no harvesters standing at a node waiting when you only have 6 workers.
it might get one more worker out. if you dont think this is good do into a random game and let a worker mine for 1 min.

@DarthTomale Just play it and practice, its quite easy. It comes down to basic concepts. The two most basics concepts are Macro and Micro. Macro is how one spends their resouces, how many structures they can support, and the general concept of "building shit." Micro is how you move your units and use their abilities in order to gain an upper hand in a battle. Other than that, its mostly which buildings build what, which units counter what, and if you can take control when an opertunity comes up.

spamming for apm does nothing for the player. You can spam 1000apm and have only 10 eapm. I spam in the beginning of games (making boxes etc) to start to focus my hands, trying to only select only a certain number of probes, making small clean boxes, getting my eyes used to looking at the wire-frame when I keep changing between selected buildings and units. Apm is only good if you know how to use it.

I didn't try this in sc2, but in broodwar you got apm if you hold a hotkey. Of course, you would be losing a lot of time, but at the begining i think you can do that to try to impress your friends xD at least here if you have an apm counter live in the first 3 minutes.
APM totally does help imo... gets your brain working faster and trains you to multitask even more. So easy to see people's macro/micro slip but with high apm you tend to do better. The reason for the apm spam during the first few minutes of the game is to warm you up :P

It's really a matter of preference, but there's always something to be done and you have to really utilize your finger skills constantly to improve your overall apm throughout the game.
Apm is actually very important in games like sc2 the point is that all that apm should be productive apm. If you just randomly spam keys and get 1k apm it's not any better than someone playing 100 apm and using that apm to control troops, macro up, keep building scvs ect... But don't underestimate high apm play. The point of all rts games is to have constant and excellent control over all your troops and buildings and if you don't perform enough actions per minute you just don't have that.
i'm just at 64 ,couldn't boost up , instant apm could be at 3xx when the situation is tense, but theres no meaning to have that much throughout the whole game

well i think 50-100 apm are the good average for the first 3 -5 minutes, in fights 200-300 apm are not unusual, but everything above that can be seen as spam, if its really not an epic macro dude :P
I would rather build high APM slowly then to randomly spam. Spamming distracts me when I play I prefer making all my actions count and building up the momentum. (Yes I know this person doesn't actually play like that normally.)

Usually when people spam they are doing it to warm up their hands. I know that it gets my hands going faster for the rest of the game if I spam in the first 2-3 minutes.
High APM isn't always spam, I average70-80 and withoust spamming (maybe mouse click spamming...) it can easily peak it 200/300 withoutkey board mashing.
When u check replays from the old times, before any replay analyser tools existed in bw, all people were so low on apm - nobody had more than 200, most good player around 150.
After the "discovery" of the measurand "apm", people began to spam and doubled their apm because they are as stupid as u re....
Do you mind telling us which WCG this is and then analyze how much more APM professional strategies require to utilize in the current BW scene compared to when this WCG took place?

The point of all rts games is to have constant and excellent control over all your troops and buildings and if you don't perform enough actions per minute you just don't have that.

the idea is to warm your hand and fingers when the game starts so you hotkey your nexus and probes and just play with the hotkeys so you warm up for the late game :)

well i think 50-100 apm are the good average for the first 3 -5 minutes, in fights 200-300 apm are not unusual, but everything above that can be seen as spam, if its really not an epic macro dude :P

I would rather build high APM slowly then to randomly spam. Spamming distracts me when I play I prefer making all my actions count and building up the momentum. (Yes I know this person doesn't actually play like that normally.)

Hahaha, this is great. I doubt you even got 1k apm with normal spam. Just select all your workers at the start and hold C and you'll get 1k apm easy.

@mypenisgetsmushy you will not get 1000 apm from spamming the number keys bro. try it. i do that and box in beginning of games and it only goes to about 120 or so. but i am not really trying to go as fast as possible just staying warm, happy feet sorta thing you know? later in games when i'm actually microing i can get up to about 180 which isn't even very fast compared to pros.

Usually when people spam they are doing it to warm up their hands. I know that it gets my hands going faster for the rest of the game if I spam in the first 2-3 minutes.

High APM isn't always spam, I average70-80 and withoust spamming (maybe mouse click spamming...) it can easily peak it 200/300 withoutkey board mashing.

Bind each prob to an hotkey and just klick and the hotkeys as fast as you can will bring you up to 1k-1.5k apm, its not hard.

Fisheye made 2nd place @ wcg with 130 apm.
When u check replays from the old times, before any replay analyser tools existed in bw, all people were so low on apm - nobody had more than 200, most good player around 150.
After the "discovery" of the measurand "apm", people began to spam and doubled their apm because they are as stupid as u re....

Also, are you suggesting people like Baby, Flash, and many other Starcraft players play with 400+ APM in multiple games in a row (While their wrists are hurting) to look cooler, rather than to maximize their play?
