  • unimpressive, sorry.

  • @ltaIicsmine It's a teaching video, not a performance. Plus a piece does not have to be technically impressive to be an outstanding expression.

  • @unholyimage ok. two things:1) if it's a teaching video, where's the teaching? and 2) the piece is neither technically impressive nor outstanding in expression. 70% of it is just natural harmonics. NATURAL HARMONICS! WOW!

  • @ltaIicsmine ok. two things: 1) It's just a demonstrations of the INTRO of the song.

    2) Those harmonics are there to compliment the bass line played by Chris Squire. He's not trying to play anything flashy.

  • reminds me welcome home (sanitarium)

  • @TheMrpaulvideos yeah, me too. But it's only because of his harmonics on 12th fret.

  • @TheMrpaulvideos

Rather the other way round, surely?

  • AMAZING.

  • call me weird, but I can't stop watching this.

  • I look at the recent videos of Steve, he looks like he could be Professor Emeritus of a University.

  • TEACHHH TEACHHHHHHHH

  • Very nice! Is that a Martin you are playing? Love it man! Great job!

  • @LBHMx probably he doesn't know, howe is playing it

  • @LBHMx This sounds lovely on a Martin D45. My dream acoustic.

  • So cool that he put this together for other players.

    Great upload. Thanks.

  • sublime.

  • It is so nice to be able to go right to the source when you want to learn a song. Thank you Steve.

  • I can't get over the amazing sound that instrument puts out. It's no wonder he prefers it!

  • WOOOOWWW STEVE IS AMAZING!

  • his fingers are friekin' long!!

  • this is some fake shit

  • Are you sure that it's Steve Howe playing in this video?

  • @TaroGabunia : Yes it is. Buy the video that they cut these scenes from. It'll be apparent and you'll have a great time watching it.

  • the guitar doesn't move ad the hand has some white contoure like something

little doubt that i';s real, a very little but if i'm wrong and i hop i am that's perfect timing perfect sound and perfect performance, only too short :))))))))))))))))))))

  • @Mick80200 This is Steve Howe. He has probably only played this bit about a million times. I would imagine if anyone in this world can play it perfectly it would be him.

  • swiss clock timming

  • the only good part of the song is the beginning, the rest of it blows

  • @eheister2006 Gtfo!

  • @eheister2006 You obviously didn't listen to the guitar solo nor the bass riff, gtfo.

  • thanks, I guess I'll hav to do the same for you

  • I love it! You're great!! :D

  • where was this lesson when I was trying to figure this out in the early 70s? Oh yes, there was no internet, you just had to play a 45 single version at 33 rpm ;)

  • @dreamawaythemiles

    alas... indeed so !

  • Steve Howe's intro acoustic guitar is one of possibly the best acoustic guitar solo's ever. I only had once chance to hear it live. I felt like I was actually in the recording studio with him.

  • @amosnews, this came out about 40 years ago. It's still damn good music.

  • that was bad ass

  • So clear, so perfect.

  • BRRRRAAAAAVOOO!!!!

  • Smooooooooth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i can imagine hearing Cans And Brahms after he finishes playing...

  • 5 idiots do not know Steve Rowe... Is depressing!

  • @rencasval Who is Steve Rowe?

  • @kzvxrpl XD

  • @kzvxrpl a legend

  • @kzvxrpl in a parallel universe, Steve Rowe is the mathematical genius brother of Howe

  • @kzvxrpl He's a guy I used to be on a carpenters crew with years ago...

  • @kzvxrpl You're kidding, right?

  • @RJosephReece I'm kidding what

  • @RJosephReece Steve ROWE? Theres no Rowe hes not kidding

  • @kzvxrpl A Saints Row: The Third Character? XD

  • Steve played in my town a few years ago and there were only about thirty to forty people watchin. Unforgetable evening though, pleasant man and a real guitar-hero

  • finally! my mom's played this my whole life and i never knew what it was haha

  • Sweet! Thank you :)

  • I learned that the first day I got the album. I still play every now and then simply because it is STILL outrageously good! THANK YOU!

  • That's awesome man! This intro has been going through my head loads as I came across it while fiddling with Spanish Romance and learning how to do solos, but I couldn't place the song.

Odd that you would mix and match with the pick and i and a on the right hand, but I suppose you're allowed. Hehe.

Simple melody and pattern, but quite lovely.

Ahh the days of the rock epic. Mixed blessing that those days are gone, but most current bands would just make them horribly.

    Beauty guitar too!

  • Wonderful, I love this piece of music.

  • I find it very hard to believe people don't know who Steve Howe is. Alas, it's true, the whole world if full of ignorance. I love Steve.

  • It has be - what, 30 years ago? Some people just don't know Howe.

  • The best acoustic player on the planet !!!!!!

  • How does he get those harmonics to sound out so perfectly?

  • saw these guys in greensboro; howe, anderson, bruford, squire and wakeman what a show! nothing but talent! howe is off the chain, but so is yes!

  • steve howe is such a beast

  • Before this, talking about rock music, all I had listened to were great songs, fabulous hits, great musical moments, wonderful bands, but this intro changed my way to appreciate music as one of the fine arts. Thank you Steve.

  • Steve Howe is not a guitar hero, he's the guitar fucking master!

  • natural harmonics are so sweeeeeet!

  • One of the greatest Rock guitarists of all time. More people should know that.

  • I saw "Yes" Union tour. I have been to many, many concerts over the years and this concert ranks among my top three live performances along with Plant & Page and Rush. Great talent, great performances, great production, great engineering, etc. I loved "Roundabout" in the 70s. Seeing and hearing Steve Howe performing the intro to "Roundabout" was like a dream come true. All of the artists gave 100%.

  • Comment removed

  • He plays it differently than I was taught it. Oh well, HE wrote it!

  • Very nicely played !

  • make a tuturiol

  • Steve is another guitar genius...he's just brilliant.

  • How do you get the harmonics! I can only get a really good sound when I do one on the twelfth fret. Anyone know?

  • @GuitarMasterizer you dont push down on the frets you lightly put ur hands on the strings right about the 12th fret just were he places his

  • @streetsk8er123 i know that but I can't get that same sound on other frets

  • @GuitarMasterizer On 7th fret it´s possible to get the harmonics too. 7th frte is in the physical middle betwee 12 and 0. You have to lightly put the finger, don´t push.

  • @Yesshows01 Thanks. :D I figured that out by ear recently so I'm good

  • Insane Harmonics!

  • Man! that pic just magically appeared, I am amazed how he pulled that out, sheer genius.

  • @boanerges144 OR WHERE HE PULLED IT OUT FROM

  • I first heard Yes play this live in 1972 in Glasgow and have been fascinated by it ever since. It's only now discovering this video that I'm trying to play it. He makes it look so easy!!

  • metallica is worse than a piece of crap comparing at this. so stop even bringing it into the conversation

  • @ewtgarwar wow, that's not fair. Kirk Hammett is very tallented. He is classically trained like Steve Howe, they just play very different styles. Like you I prefer Yes to Metalica, but you sound like my father talking about my music when I was a kid.

  • @faddabean well i thinks its just a bunch of people playing music that everyone wants to hear. madonna metallica all the same..( but well thats my opinion dont get mad at me for that)

  • this is money

  • Class!

  • the motion is as beautiful as the sound

  • Oh Man am I glad I found this as a 57 yr young mediocre rythum guitar player this is one I've been wondering about. IT''s my next lesson.

    Thanks to Steve Howe!!!

  • My favorite song ever...

  • so delicate the touch on the neck, just amazing really,Howe your a genius!

  • wow...thats really him..sounds exact...must be him

  • Does anyone know what make and model that Guitar is?

    It sounds fabulous!

  • @amplitudedude77 yeah, i wanna know to,does it have metal or nylon strings, sounds fabulous

  • @lamecasuelas2 Metal strings, it's a full acoustic, not a classical. Harmonics sound absolutely stunning on nickel.

  • @amplitudedude77 I'm 99.9% sure that it's a Martin D-45 1977 re-issue.

Which should explain why it sounds so damn good.

  • Puuh, nicht gerade einfach für einen (fast-) Anfänger, aber mit vieeel Geduld und Spucke...

  • Uma das melhores musicas ja tocada mundo!

  • I've seen all good people and Steve Howe is one of them ☺

  • I saw yes play this live a few years ago. It was so awesome!

  • OMG it's to hard for me, so simple so hard so beautiful <3

  • You can tell instantly this is ART.

  • This song is one of the reasons that I learned to play the guitar. I never had youtube videos to give me the parts, so I had to listen and figure it out. Boy that was fun.

  • 2 COOOOOOL.

  • absolutely beautiful and perfect !

  • @lorenzo03250 He does that a lot :)

  • sick

  • Wish I had this 30 years ago. Would have made things much easier. Thanks for posting it and the effort of using two cameras.

  • Is that a Martin D45?

    Regardless, three cheerios for YES.

  • how wonderful

  • His guitars out of chune you can hear the oscilation at the end. 1 star ha ha. Just kidding steve howe kicks ass.

  • yayyy

  • Probably one of my favorite guitar riffs of all time. Gotta love when people incorporate natural harmonics.

  • It looks like he pulls a pick out of thin air

  • some great guitarring

  • On it's own; so simple yet so beautiful.

  • oh my god.... that is so cool..

  • tienes razon en un mi major

  • I just uploaded a new version of Roundabout feel free to check it out /watch?v=xhwhVCNqj4M

  • the best song ever

  • next to starship trooper!!! hahahaha!!!

  • E-major

  • last chord is an Em

  • no, it's Emaj..

  • @hhxdog uhh, no. it's E Major that's what gives it that old English quirkiness. Like the minstrels of old you know?

  • la saqué igual :)

  • Wow... I've been playing it a lot differently.

  • Not a lot of people know who Steve Howe is.. sad..

  • @myggzmcc Yeah... so sad.

  • @myggzmcc But they know who Yes is. Thus they know who Steve Howe is.

  • @myggzmcc --I do!! Been knowing about him since Yessongs (1973) and I think he's one of the best all around guitar players that God ever put breath into. This is from a guy who main collection of music is funk, soul, jazz & gospel. I'm so glad to see his stuff on YouTube, I've been looking for anything instructional by him for years. Thanks Mr. Howe for putting this stuff up.

  • @myggzmcc i know huh

  • @myggzmcc i agrre he is the greatest

  • @myggzmcc I'm 13 and know who he is. I saw him with Asia

  • @myggzmcc I'm 13 and I saw him with ASIA this year. :D

  • @myggzmcc music isnt the same, eh? it really is sad to see that very few people know who steve howe is...

  • BRAVOOOO!!

  • Too bad yes isn't featured on guitar hero. More little kids should know who steve howe is... all they know is herman li and MAYBE eric johnson

  • Herman Li???

  • yeah because of guitar hero 3 they think dragonforce is the best guitar work ever... totally not true... a couple of years ago when I took my guitar to school all the little kids were asking me to play through the fire and flames and I was like... it's not that hard, there are harder things, I showed them Siberian Katruh and they were like... WOOOAHH!!

  • Once, I read a youtube debate about who the better guitarist was, Buckethead or Herman Li, and someone used the argument that Through The Fire and Flames was harder than Jordan on Guitar Hero.

  • oh man!!! that is such a MAJOR FAIL... what a cute story... where is the culture??? hahaha...

  • I hope nobody ever sells that person a guitar, because he does not deserve one.

  • buckethead is a very good guitarist actually. hes made some great music and hes very versatile in alot of different styles

  • @jojoevilllama One question, what does that have to do with the genius of Steve Howe?

  • @VandSvideos It has nothing to do with it.. Honestly, I think it's funny as shit though....

  • @rodrigozamo

You are wrong sir, Dragonfart are far harder than pretty much anything in the history of anything. Thing is though, any one who wants to play Dragonfart is a fucking idiot.

  • @rodrigozamo its now on rockband :)

  • @m2dff WIN!!!

  • @rodrigozamo on rockband 3

  • I was kidding about the angel of death thing i understand how much skill steve howe must have to play like this compared to kerry king

  • ya that song is easycompared to most yes songs

  • were talking about STEVE FUCKING HOWE. he can play anything.

  • angel of death is easy... megadeth is much harder to play than slayer

  • I thought this comment was funny.

Dunno why it got so many thumbs down... :/

  • I would give my eye teeth to have half the talent that this man has, not to mention that he is a genuinely nice person.

  • his harmonics are amazing

  • thats one of the best sounding acoustic guitars ive ever heard. just listen to that *pop* on the lower strings. AHHH SO GOOD

  • beautiful sounding guitar!

  • the begining reminds me of welcome home sanitarium by metallica

  • You mean welcome home sanitarium by metallica reminds you of Roundabout by Yes

  • lol i was gonna leave that EXACT comment...well done

  • Steve Howe solo - Mood for a Day 11-13-02

check the ring on the right hand in this clip.

  • @lxKazxl From the beginning has a very similar intro as well.

  • Sorry, but howe do we know that's Howe?

  • those are his fingers..easy to recognize :)

  • He released a DVD with just this.. And he has the same fingers and plays exactly like him

  • Thank you. Thank you very much.

  • his fingers, you can tell, they're long and lanky and can stretch really far, just watch any other videos and compare, he has unique hands

  • Thank you, sir.

  • the person that uploaded them says they got this from a dvd, they have several uploads and they claim its steve howe

  • plus look at his fingers, he has those awkward boney fingers

  • En Verdad Es Usted Un Maestro.

  • Those Yes musicians are top level. The only guitarist I have ever seen/heard play about as gracefully as Steve Howe is Jimmy Page. Hendrix is a supergod, of course, but he was playing a different type of ball game from delicate grace. He was about eccentric explosiveness. I love Ace Frehley's guitar playing about as much as those others', but comparing him to any of them would be like comparing a color field painter to a realist. They are all very different and all very talented.

  • Very, very, very, very very good!!! Perfect! Congratulations!!!

  • The only other guitarist i can think of that even approaches the subtlety, perfection, grace, and sheer musicality of Steve Howe is maybe Carlos Vamos.

If you've seen Yes recently, you know age has only made him, and the others, even better.

A thousand years from now historians will call the era from 1968 to whenever these guys finally retire The Yes Years.

  • Wow! It looks so easy and natural. I would like to be able to play like that, but this is only possible in my dreams. Many thanks Mr Howe to share your work and techniques using modern medias.
