We sing this one a lot at my church. It's especially appropriate when the First Reading is from 1 Samuel 3:1-21.“Then the Lord called Samuel, and he said, ‘Here I am!’ and ran to Eli and said, ‘Here I am, you called me.’ Eli said, ‘I did not call; lie down again.’...Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord.... Eli perceived that the Lord was calling Samuel. Eli said to him, ‘Go, lie down, and if He calls you, you say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.”’
Well the funeral I had to attend, happened, a friend died from bone cancer and the funeral was this morning, however the Mass was in Latin and I didnt understand a word of it, and not much pomp and circumstance. But this is what the deceased wanted, that was his wish.
The Latin Catholic funeral was beautiful. I will miss him terribly, he was a former Seminarian.
I never heard this song before the rehearsals. I loved it since then :) There is also another funeral song which I like a lot: "Nearer, My God, to Thee" maybe you know it too.
This is a beautiful song. I attended a Catholic funeral 2 months ago and this was the beginning song for the funeral and let me tell you, alot of sobbing going on. I know I fell apart.
I listen to this version when I can, and I think back to the funeral I attended, still brings tears to my eyes. I know I enjoy hearing it, God enjoys hearing it and so does the faithfully departed!
imi place de Dominic, pune suflet pe acolo..hmm..vocile is super si rezonanta din biserica impodobeste bine rezultatul final al melodiei..si tobosaru..ei bine..e ok si el:P
OMG, I only hear this song at Catholic funerals and I ball every time I hear it. There are many reditions of this song by different faiths. I dont want to sound partial hear, but the Catholic Church does the better job of performing this song.
I have heard this choir and they sound great, the lighting is not good at all, it should be alot brighter afterall its in a church.
Overall, not bad at all. I wish more Catholic Churches would do this.
Good song but I agree it would be better without the drum and offbeats. I remember years of being packed in Sunday Mass singing this song. It's one of those permanent things

Well, once again I am facing another funeral.
This time its a former co-worker who is in hospice care and dying from bone cancer. He looks horrible and hanging on by a thread.
I have to hear this song to get me through what is going to be another difficult time.
The best thing about this according to his family is that he has already accepted death and knows God is coming soon to get him and bring him home.

that is a great song but that crappy drum and cymbal ruined it.

I Agree, Don't emphasize the beats- it spoils the song!
