  • Love Johnny Cash, love Hank Williams

  • Love Johnny Cash, love Hank Williams and perfectly enjoy Nick Cave - but for me he added nothing to the rendition of this song; he understood it, but his voice simply didn't work right with Johnnys. For me at least.

  • Happy Birthday Cash

  • A quote I heard about Mr. Cash...and I forget who said it...is absolutely ttrue and beautiful. She said, "Johnny was never afraid to show you how broken he was".

It takes a real man of honesty and integrity to fully open his soul to the entire world for 5 decades.

  • this song sums up how i feel right about now

  • @TheBigAsh1 if there is anything you would like to talk to that has been in some of the darkest places life offers, but have survived through it, for now, as with everything, message me...I became totally disabled at 41, with still young children at home, losing income meant losing house, etc —Having come though those times more than once, I feel it is my obligation to at least reach out, but only if you want or need to just chat, or whatever, and forgive me if im intruding.

  • @painxtreme thanks, it means a lot to know that somebody cares.

  • @TheBigAsh1 There is always someone who does, friend. Those are the ones to turn to, otherwise they may never notice, since we are very good at hiding ourselves behind masks. Like Mr. Stipe said, Take comfort in your friends. (or whomever you're closest with), and take good care.

  • @painxtreme thanks it means al ot ;)

  • I prefer Seasick Steve's version

  • the only person to benefit from johnnys death was god himself and he left us all bereft

  • 2 people hit the wrong button :)

  • Only johnny cash can make a song that gets 142,919 views ant only 2 dislikes. Damn there maybe hope for music after all.

  • 2 dislikes love attack attack or bring me the horizon stuffs

  • I hate who disliked this video

  • Love this song Beautiful <3

Seasick Steve also does an awesome cover

  • Johnny..I'm young enough to be your granddaughter but everytime I melt...teach the angels how to sing the good old songs! :*]

  • why isn't their more views?!?!?!

  • I had this version play for my Dad's funeral a couple years ago. You hear the pain and loneliness in his voice.. <3 this one

  • I want to age like Johnny Cash.

  • @SP4DE13 all i have to say is why?????? he was like 71 and he looked 100

  • Johnnys voice was better when he was younger

  • @soocie91 " in my opinion johnny's voice was bettern when he was younger, but he is still the man no matter what his voice sounds like... I love you man in black, rest in peace." There, i fixed your comment for you.

  • @camopants7..its tuff to say who sung it better because both have different styles

  • I'm 18, and this is real music.

  • It's originally by Hank Williams he sing it better to

  • @camopants7 disagree

  • Volbeat's version of this is awesome..they love johnny cash too..seen them live twice and they show how much they love him..this is incredible though.

  • guys if you like also metal and rock music like i do, try cover of this one by volbeat.

  • it makes me think of a friend who abandonned me

  • this is truley the most saddest song ive ever heard, and it just makes me sick to know there are people who dislike this video.

  • Im so lonesome I could cry........

  • /watch?v=xw3KxF9pxso

Here's a great version by Seasick Steve, a modern day country/blues musician. I think you'll like it ;)

  • great song... r.i.p. john cash

  • volbeat did a great cover of this

  • oh may, so heartbreaking, hope you are with June now Johnny, love ...

  • oh johnny cash, why'd you always sound so sad? you were an amazing artist and i wish the world could have you back <3 like if you agree

  • @PatternRuden Sometimes... Being loved by people is not what you need.... When you have no one to tell your secrets life is very hard... and things like that.. you know... I have friends, a familly but.. I don't have any awesome girlfriend that I could pass my time with and tell what's wrong... He lost her June and that probably made him the saddest man ever... Sorry about my english. R.I.P Jhonny. We love you man.

  • Whats with those Dumbass, lowlife scum ads from GOGGLE that keep popping up when u play the song. Those are more sick and repulsive than a SOB!!!!!!!!

Really CORPORATE WORLD listen to Johnny Paycheck...Take this Job and Shove it!!!! But for u Take your scumbag, douchebag ads and SHOVE them where the sun don't shine!!! SICK, Creepy Peeping Toms!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm hear to hear Johnny Cash because my daddy just died and before him my husband. This and Hurt. And if some SOB doesn't like it then listen to Johnny Cash start singing "Sooner or later God's gonna Cut You Down"

  • One person disliked this. What kind of sick person would dislike Johnny Cash and Nick Cave covering a Hank Williams song? Who'd be so lacking in soul and emotion? Who'd want to surpress such heartfelt badassery? There's only one man; Simon Cowell. I hate that cunt.

  • @neonatalpenguin Simon 'What a cock' Cowell, is the dark lord of shitty music, taking over the galaxy, with terrible karaoke style music. We must unite and rid this menace, and allow real music back into our lives. God bless you johnny..

  • Best version of this song ever. I almost want to cry when I hear it. It is sung with so much emotion and longing.

  • Jesús i hear this man sing and i feel like it reaches my soul

  • I'm glad there aren't any dislikes

  • There's a real truth to the sound of Johnny's voice in this particular recording. I listen & compare back to back Johnny singing his 1960 recording & his 2002 recording of this very song... The fact that this recording is of a man who is DYING makes this song EVEN ALL THE MORE powerful. Johnny was great but there is sonething even all the more special about this particular album. I'm really not a huge C/W fan, but I am a Cash fan. I definately miss him

  • 3 favorite versions of this song: 1.Hank Sr, 2. Elvis Presley, 3. This one <3

  • Johnny Cash.......LEGEND!!

  • I wish i had listened even once the "Hello, I'm Johnny Cash" LIVE.. 8 years today without him...

  • man what happened to country music like this?

  • @tyrellasaurusrex it got traded for pop country crap with barely any meaning to it at all

  • rest in peace

  • I knew the Volbeat-version, love both versions :)

  • @Yarxing Volbeat? Thats kvlt!

  • Volbeat - I'm so lonesome I could I cry.

  • I'm so lonesome i could cry...

  • i love the cover also you guys should check out A.A bondy covering this song too love it's amazing as well :)

  • I miss him. yes I'm old enough to miss him.

  • @howltothemoon I was only 8 years old when he died, but I miss him too, so much.

  • @xJezz I was only 7 when he died

  • They both sound like two outlaw gunfighters finally returning home after years of being on the run.

  • @shutthefuckup654 hell yes, that is the perfect way to describe this, well done friend.

  • @ghostnappa666 Well, when two giants among men like these two meet and work together, something unforgettable is bound to take place.

  • michael english has a new version of this one

  • I think this song would have been great if it was just only Johnny singing it . Nick just sounds like he was thrown into it .

  • Every summer in the '50s we moved up to our log cabin in the mountains. I was a kid and loved it. We had electricity but no running water or indoor plumbing. I remember this song coming out of an old Magnavox radio during the evenings while the fire was crackling in the fireplace and I cleaned trout for breakfast. Brings back good memories of fine music and quiet evenings.

  • @jimtraner

Sounds like some great memories there

  • @j4allen The best.

  • amazing song

  • try the Volbeat version

  • Is it just me, or does Johnny Cash seem to use the three ascending notes in almost all of his songs?

  • @MikyRightStrike but still manages to create some of the best songs ever created in music

  • beautiful!

  • first time i heard this was a king missile cover. thought it a bit strange, but even their version is great. when i found out that cave and cash did a duet i was like "whaaaaat??" awesome.

  • @ 2 in the morning with the temps cooling into the low 50's, broke and no one by my side cept' this homemade water bong and this pack of smokes, this one hits home....I would like to cry but the tears just won't fall.

  • i love this!!!

  • Why is Nick Cave not given credit?

  • @ronrutherford ...he is.....read the description...we would never leave out the no. 1 bad seed.

  • @irishsid13 Why not in the title? It's on a Cash album but it certainly is a duet...deserves both names in the title imo

  • Hank Williams - great songwriter. Johnny Cash - great voice. Nick Cave - great voice, too. If this doesn't make for a great song, what will? By the way, there is another great cover version of it by the Cowboy Junkies.

  • @TeehpodT

I have that Cowboy Junkies version, it's great!

  • @ritaleeman Johnny forever man. Better then the best.

  • @TeehpodT Johnny Cash himself covered it again, too. This was his second cover of this particular song.

  • @TeehpodT the best cover version is from volbeat ;)

  • @TeehpodT Volbeat has a pretty sweet cover of this song if your into a more driving rock sound also

  • @TeehpodT

    this is awesome

  • some of the best!

  • this is johnny cash!!!!!

  • @larsvegars81 no crap i thought it was chuck norris

  • is this nick cave or bryan ferry?
