Thank you for your courage Sue in sharing your story.
There remain many conditions of service that remain totally unacceptable for our Service people.
It is through the public exposure of cases like yours that we may force the Government of the day to fix and retrospectively compensate those many who have suffered from the undisclosed and inappropriate actions of Defence at all levels.
Why can't the polititians see that the people of Australia do not want their defence force members treated this way? It is grossly unfair and undeserved. The more that stories such as this are circulated the better chance that the Government, which should know better, will be shamed into doing the right thing. In the total scheme of things it will not cost much to fix the problem! All of us who see the need for change should continue to agitate until we achieve a just result.
Wives, children, all those loved by the uniformed never signed on, are not salaried, and yet they are as much victims of the system as the uniformed member. Then politicians patronisingly "appear" at funerals and on 11/11 and 25/4, bastards all...crying for justice...

Firstly, how did the reporter know her husband was killed before she did?
Why wasn't a Air Force Welfare Officer and Minister sent around to inform her instead of the telephone call NOT GOOD ENOUGH
Then she had to endure all the comments from people who don't think before they open their mouths.
I would hope the system has changed for the better for our young widows today.
