I'm gonna make something similar, but slightly different. I'm thinking something like:

Destruction (lightning cloak)

Conjuration (bound sword and dead thrall mainly)

Restoration (healing spells and wards)

Heavy Armor (ebony armor, looks cool xD)

I'm starting my second playthrough (1st was pure thief), and I'm liking the idea of a Mage/warrior hybrid. Should I be fine if I (rather than spell 1 hand, weapon other) try to switch between pure caster and pure melée depending on what I think's called for?I tend to swap gear in combat a lot.

@alex9033 Yes my spellsword changes allot. I sometimes have 2 spells, and sometimes i do what the video is doing. it's an extremely versitile build.

Hey, how do you distribute your health, magicka, and stamina bonuses? I'm just wondering because I've used about 6 on stamina, and I dunno if I should focus on health and magicka more now because I tend to use the steed stone.

@Machnacht def go to health and magicka I run a similar build as this fellow, I usually go for out of every 5 levels I get I put 2 in mag and 2 in health 1 in stam, it works best as you need to be able to take a beating, the heavy armor helps but doesn't quite do it all for you, I would not recommend using the Steed stone, I would recommend using the Lover stone or the Mage stone as it is more important to your class, another option would be the warrior stone since you use heavy armor and 1h.

I used to use that combo of damage shield + lightning bolt + 1HD weapon but refreshing the aura was a pain in the ass. Add bound sword = major pain in the ass. I hope you were packing healing potions :)

Less running away, more tanking a bit and swinging.

@GrenadeCatcher the game guide refers to a spellsword as a light armor-wearing, sword-wielding spell user, concentrating on 1hand and destruction talents, whereas a battlemage uses heavy armor, a 1hand, and a staff relying on heavy armor, and more tanking style talents. That being said, you can really mix any of these up however you want, and still do well.

@GrenadeCatcher there are many details that made the difference, but basically spellsword is a mage that use warrior skills for support; a battlemage is a warrior that uses mage skills for support

@yub93 get armsman all the way to bladesman perk with the crit, inc. 5 into the dmg for 1hand wep, get bound sword or normal sword ( whichever you preffer ) I like the looks on bound so I went with bound :) Dump into destruction, I preffer shock because of the traveling time and it looks awesome, smithing 90 is enought for deadric and max enchanting and you are good to go :)

@Harikaruna Great character dude, I was wondering how this worked because your using both bladesman in one-handed and the school of conjuration for the bound sword. I guess my question is, which school do action count? Do it level both conjuration & one-handed, when you use this? Also, how long does the bound sword stay unsheathed? Thanks!~

@Khimeran77 Hehe thx, bound sword does skill conjuration and 1hand ye, so its great.

120sec before it gets sheathed. It also benefits from all damage perks in 1hand so its nice until you can get some deadric with enchant on, you wont find anything better until atleast :) hope this helped mate

@Harikaruna best combo: restoration, enchanting, smithing, blade, destruction...you will never run out of magica...well you will but it will reload really fast making it seem like you have infinite.

bound weapons might be strong, but by not using an actual weapon, your missing out on some extra stats as you can enchant a weapon up to twice (with perks)

I preffer bound swords as you can get the perk in conjuration for trapping souls, - also they are equal to deadric dmg wise, they do tons of dmg :)

Chain ligtning and you learn it around 25 I believe or when you reach 40 in destruction, around there I believe :)
