Chonda, remember my wife at mothers day out group session. Everyone was GREAT no problems, etc, My wife suddenly broke down and released. Then the group went around again and the TRUTH starting coming out. I too have been commited and actually it was a great experience as obviously you are there because of something wrong. Wish church was this way! Where came I get a copy of the video? kellylj79@hotmail.com
I was committed but once I got in there I realized I wasn't crazy and I got out and went straight to church to feel HIS presence...It was so soothing and healing in Jesus name!!
With grace & humor, Chonda illuminates a taboo subject & makes it real; this is a message that churches especially needs to hear, I think. I am agnostic, but have a deeply Christian friend who tried to take his own life because when he turned to his pastors, they failed to realize how ill he was, telling him he just wasn't praying sincerely enough; he became convinced he was unworthy, & almost lost both his faith & his life. Luckily, his neighbors were home that day, & he is recovering.
Thanks for this video. 4 years ago I woke up one morning to a feeling that is unexplainable. I felt like I was sitting on the edge of hell. I hated everything and I wanted to die. I ended up hospitalized also. I accepted Jesus when I was a child and I've always loved him deeply but I took some flack from other Christians because unless you experience clinical depression you can't know that it is not a spiritual matter. It is a physical matter like any other.
haha I've been committed and I met some interesting people. My best friend in there was a heroin addict. She was a sweet girl lol. The sex/coke addict though was quite scary.
As another Christian suffering from depression, I am SO THANKFUL to see I'm not alone and that it's OK to deal with it through laughter! I've found humor to be a literal life-saver for me (and my drugs - great antidepressants).
Saw Chonda tonight and she was hysterical as she usually is but she was also very touching and spoke from the heart. I will never see her just as a comedian again. She has been through a horrible ordeal and has new found strength that can only come from God! She is truly amazing!
God bless Chonda. I have lived with depression for years and am on medication for it. I've also seen a therapist. While Chonda has such an incredible gift for helping us laugh, it is so comforting to see the truth in her words. If you don't suffer from depression, it is very easy to dismiss it as a phase or mere selfish self-pity. Thank you, Chonda, for sharing your struggle. Again, God bless you.
I love the bravery of Chonda..to openly discuss a topic that many Christians dismiss or are embarrassed to admit. Thank you Chonda...for loving God enough to share your insight with us...& letting us know it's ok to be depressed and get help for it.
WOW!!!! I know how she feels, She describes it to clearly, I am shocked. But I am Thankful she is sharing it. So many people do not. God Bless everyone
I've been where she was at; but psychiatric meds just created a fog that kept me (and those in my life) from dealing with our issues. As long as the focus was on me taking my meds, no one had to work on healing what was wrong between us. I do agree there are some medical problems (like thyroid malfunction) that affect one's emotions - but unfortunately there is no biological test to show a chemical imbalance in the brain causes depression (or any other "mental" illness)
If you go into a fog with a medication for depression, then you're on the wrong one. If the doctor disagrees, get a new doctor. The right antidepressant will help you feel like you have a new lease on life, amazing energy, and wondering why you didn't get help earlier.
Ha, what she said about wondering if there's a sin deep down... That used to bug me. Jumping into the Pentacostal movement right after rebirth was a huge mistake.
i've been "committed" too and your right they do take everything. I thought it was stupid the wouldn't let me have my picture frames, and they wouldn't let me have my makeup or shower products I had to go to the front and ask for my stuff everyday cause they locked it up. i guess so i wouldn't try to poison myself with my shampoo?
what a blessing, to hear such transparency and humility. I've been committed as well, multiple time. You find out who your true friends are. The church needs to hear honesty like this more often! Thank you Chonda! God bless you!
Thank you for being so honest, there are a lot of us out there suffering from depression, i think you are right about the anger turned inward, I too love group
I know what your saying kellyjustus. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia also. So i know what you are saying. Jesus understands our suffering, whether it be mental or physical.
I have Fibromyalgia. The number one cause death in people is suide. The pain and other things just get to them. Without Jesus I might not be able to handle this. Meication is a good thing sometimes, for your brain body whatever. Jesus understands suffering. He has been there and done that and He holds out His hand for us to take.
