I was so surprised to learn that USA citizens have to pay tax to the US government even if they live and work overseas... even if their income is already taxed by the other country... you still have to pay taxes on that money. Fair enough if you pay tax on money made in the USA... but why pay tax twice?

The whole point of a representative democracy is that we get to select the people who are making these decisions. But the people don't have any say as to who is going to be the CEO of a corporation. And it will be that person's job to do what's best for the corporation, not what's best for the people. And as soon as those two goals are in conflict, it's the corporate interests that will winover the students' interests because that person has to answer to his or her shareholders.

Presently all personal federal income tax revenue goes toward paying the interest on the national debt. Services and entitlements are paid for with corporate income taxes, tariffs, and excise taxes.

It's a bogus calculation. Government numbers are used to approximate federal, state, and local taxes. This year, half of the taxpayers didn't even pay federal income taxes. Where you live determines your state tax, school tax, city tax, county tax, and sales tax.

Oddly no1 seemed to care or even, you know, notice this fact until some1 tried to pass a bill that would actually improve this system so it'd cost Americans LESS money in the long-run. I'm not advocating to let politicians continue wasteful spending. So what about the religious institutions that only do charity work occasionally or not at all? Shouldn't they pay taxes? I don't think anyone disagrees that often tax money is spent poorly or even incompetently. Faith based initiatives. Abstinence-only sex ed. Bridges to nowhere. Yes, people, I understand taxes are necessary. I honestly don't think there are too many people are arguing that taxes are inherently wrong. The problem is: 1.) Taxes are way too high, ridiculous, and imposed on too many things, and 2.) Related to the first, the tax money is used like a drunken sailor on shore leave, used to fund stupid useless programs that some lobbyist or special interest group bribed into the funding. That's the problem with taxation in America today.

@maimingbetty .. what sux is most of the tax you pay goes to killing ppl (to fund wars in afghanistan, iran, iraq). also, it goes to supporting other nations like israel and then screwing poor countries (third world). also, when govt. spends (because americans can't work and depend on the govt for benefits like healthcare) the money comes from taxes. more taxes also mean ppl are less inclined to work if govt starts taking more share of the money.

Taxes are what fuels the infrastructure of our nation. This infrastructure is the very foundation of what we call civilization. I'm rather fond of civilization.
And I can't keep that money. I need to pay rent, electricity, gas (liquid and gaseous forms), food, school loans, car payments, credit card bills, cable and every other basic need. So this day is pretty meaningless.

It's a bogus calculation. Government numbers are used to approximate federal, state, and local taxes. This year, half of the taxpayers didn't even pay federal income taxes. Where you live determines your state tax, school tax, city tax, county tax, and sales tax.
