  • When I was a kid, I had a paper route. I was up before dawn. I'd walk the route and come home and get ready for school. Star Blazers were on in the morning and I would watch them and eat my cereal. I always knew it was time to head out when the show was over.

I'm 42 now and still love Star Blazers.

  • @denverchaapai eu também amo star blazer, soube do filma lançado no japão ano passado? depois que vi o trailer pirei. será que chegará por aqui no brasil? beijos da anita.

  • WOW! They are wonderful! Loved this!

  • every person in this band is my hero

  • Thumbs up. If not for it being a sweeping rendition of the Yamato theme, but having it be performed in the United States rather than Japan.

  • One of those who disliked it was likely my brother...he NEVER understood anime, let alone SBY

  • Wow after all of these years it still never gets old! I loved playing this song but having this on youtube will always be special. I will remember this day forever!

  • This is a song that has stuck in my head since I saw it as a kid in 1978

The thing that drew me and my friends into Star Blazers was the intellectual content that Disney and Warner bros never provided

  • I think it sounded great live no complaints

  • Why would the Gamilons come the Earth?!?! To kill themselves with radiation?!?!

  • @airplanemaster1 The Gamilons planet is full of radiation, thats why they want earth to be full of radiation, they are resistant on radiation, and dont forget , this was made in 1974 , and if you can find watch 25 and 26 episode of fist season of Yamato , ( dont watch english dub its horrible , they change a lot of meaning of original , try to find subed ) oyu can find a lot of emotions , i love Yamato crew , most of them are so wonderfull .

  • @airplanemaster1 And you need to see , the main thing in Yamato is interaction of crew and the love and tragedy that they suffer on they way , and if you can manage to see other anime and cartoon of that era you will see that Yamato was on diferent level, it was serious and really the masterpiece of that time and music was really nice and huge, it is performed and used after so much time.

  • The coolest music teacher on you tube!!!!

  • 2 Gamilons landed on earth!

  • Very Nice!!

  • wow, they did good, I'm impressed for a high school band

  • Uchuu Senkan Yamato

  • Great live version !!!!!!!!!!

  • Shows what can be done when there is actual funding for band. In my school, back in the late 70's, we didn't get much funding at all.

  • anime geeks rule!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • As Digable Planets would say .... "COOL LIKE 'DAT!"

  • "We're off to outer space. We're leaving Mother Earth. To save the human race. Our Star Blazers!"

  • Just brought back my whole damn childhood! nice!!

  • Great rendition!

  • need more stacato on some parts.

but still, awesome job ! i love this song !

  • haha this is awesome! All these bands playing warcraft soundtracks and anime themes... it's just no freaking fair, what did we get? Pomp and Circumstance that's what!

  • you guys did a great job!!

  • I wonder how many people in the audience were going "That sounds familiar, now ~where~ have I heard that?"

  • @RomanticLinguaphilia if you go to irmasman you can see both seasons remastered.they kick ass and bring back a lot of great memories:)

  • @vlunney my favorite ship was the Andromeda, but of course the Yamato rocks too...

  • @vlunney Irmasman1 ... found... guess I better watch while is still there...

  • @ grayghost8....great response....They don't make them like this anymore

  • I would love a copy of this score Do you know how I can purchase one?

  • I wish my high school could've been this cool...

  • The conducting looked like it was going through a time warp, not in sync with the music, but an admirable performance by the band. Sure hope many of them are now fans of Yamato!

  • @starblazer1971 maybe hes the doctor

  • Songs from YAMATO are actually a very nice orchestral music. In Japan, this song is as famous as STARWARS theme in USA.

  • =D

Large number of otaku dads up there, lol. That's pretty cool!

  • Super cool!!!

  • One of the best scores done by a high school band! You should be very proud of yourselves and this is why music is important in school! Also a EXCELLENT salute to the best animated series, EVER!!!!!!

  • 2 idiots disliked this????? They need to be shot with the wave motion gun!

  • @GrayGhost8 LMFAO!!!!!!!!

  • @GrayGhost8 Ha ha ha

  • @GrayGhost8 two idiots? had to have been Ganz and Bane :)

  • Epic! Brings back memories from when I was but a wee pup. Thank you!

  • *Yamato crashes through the roof and the 3rd bridge falls off

  • ヤマトを演奏してくれて、ありがとう!

  • excellent!!

  • I wish I played this when I was in school.

  • my nipples explode with delight!!

  • Im jazzed that they not only got to play it, but that many kids at that age know about Star Blazers/ Yamato!!

  • Outstanding!!!!

  • This is phat.....I love it.

  • omg that was to cool.Thank you for doing that.

  • More teachers need to do things like this to inspire their students. Very good.

  • Forever Yamato! Thanks, guys. That was incredible to hear.

  • Wow, this was fantastic. Great job kids. Brought back some great memories..Thank you

  • Thanks to the band leader for introducing this score to the kids & thanks to the person that posted it! Love it!

  • It gave me goosebumps!!!!

  • Cannone ad Onde Moventi... ENERGIA!!!!

  • Awesome Job! This Brings back Fond Memories for me! The Band did an awesome Job with the Theme!

  • OH MAN!! This so rocks!!!

  • If I ever have my own country, that's going to be the national anthem.

  • @xenophore Yeah, let's make it USA's new National Anthem

  • @xenophore Yes!

  • 231 Earthlings Like this and 2 Gamalons dislike this

  • Fire the Wave Motion Gun

  • Fantastic! Gives me chills!

  • Great! I agree this was an excellent performance of a really cool theme.

Now, let's add the theme to "The Thunderbirds" (also an excellent piece of music)... :)

  • Now That Was COOOOLL!!!, Hey my son is in band Level 2 in high school, Is there any way I could get the music sheets so that my son's high school can play it! Thanks for a great video!!

  • Comment removed

  • That was quite good.

  • they did amazing, absolutely amazing, i would of literally jumped out of my chair during band if we got to play this in high school

little off topic:always could not stand the english name for the show, space battleship yamato is where it is at! the ship is named Yamato, not a-whatever

screw nostalgia, yamato is a better name XD

  • @daiatlas2010 - The real Yamato is at the bottom of the South China Sea, sunk on April 7, 1945 after at least 11 American torpedoes and 8 bombs (maybe even 2 more torpedoes - unconfirmed) struck the largest battleship ever floated.

Personally, I knew the starship as the Argo, and the name evokes the classic tale of Jason and the Argonauts.

Well-done by the band, as some here have correctly stated, most of those band members weren't even born yet when the show was popular.

  • That is absolutely fantastic!!! Starblazers!!! What a cool band teacher!

  • That is absolutely fantastic!!! Starblazers!!! What a cool band teacher!

  • can't believe that a school teacher would do this...Much respect to him...and much respect to the band for absolutely NAILING this song...

  • two ppl didnt like this! THEY SUCK!

  • Gave me chills at 13 and even so at 42!! It gets no better than yamato!!!

  • Respect.

    Respect to the Band.

    Respect to the Teacher.

    Respect to Yamato.

    Just... respect.

  • You guys sounded great

  • yaaamaaaaTOOOOOOO

  • THIS IS SO FREAKIN' COOOOOOOL!!!!!

  • Great performance!!!! I bet when those kids heard Star blazer or Space battleship yamato they was, what is that ????

  • WHOA...

  • although i appreciated it, it didn't seem like the kid's playing it really cared or put their hearts into it.(look at them at the end in the close-ups, they look almost embarrased, or confused) i thank the band teacher for being cool. too bad the band wasn't comprised solely of otaku's! this should have brought the house down!! i liked it anyway, though.

  • @bobbyrice

Most of these kids were too young to have even seen Starblazers. I grew up on it but to these kids it's obscure geezer stuff. They did do a good job though.

  • It gave me chills. If I ever have my own country, this will be the national anthem.

    Go Yamato!

  • Brings back memories of watching this cartoon

  • great vid. except when he mispronounced Yamato

  • @bsgfan1 That, and it's not a cartoon. It's an animated series. Cartoons involve talking animals and chandeliers (Loony Tunes, Disney, etc). I love cartoons too - but anime like this is simply a different category. (the misconception that anything animated is a cartoon is annoying lol)

  • @usquanigo right on lol. animated series usually deal in more mature themes. cartoons usually don't have characters, villains or otherwise, die. yet there's the yamato blasting the life out of gamilion warships. o well. still, star blazers is one of the best animated series out there along with the Harlock saga and Macross

  • @bsgfan1 Actually, the accent on the first syllable (YA-ma-to) is the correct Japanese pronunciation. Watch any of the Space Battleship Yamato clips here on YouTube (the subtitled ones, not the dubbed-into-English ones) and you'll hear the original Japanese voice actors using this pronunciation.

  • Used to watch this anime as a small child. If I start singing the theme song, my mother will join in. Thanks for posting this =D

  • Pra mim uma das melhores trilha sonora de anime que tive oportunidade de ouvir!!Muito legal YAMATO FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Next time the Space Battleship Yamato needs a live orchestra at their opening movie day or comic con, these guys should be the ones to play for it.

  • Great! Amazing!!!

  • WOW!!!!!!!! that was amazing!!!!!!!!! have any one of the band memebers ever seen the cartoon starblazers???

  • @wdsr5 I've seen Starblazers, being the daughter of the poster of this video and being in this band when we played it. Starblazers be epic.

  • @XxLittlexEmoxChildxX You did an excellent job. I wonder, was there any discussion of bringing in the chorus with this. Just curious.

  • @tgarnett25 as in like singers? I don't think so, the band teacher himself, I don't think he was actually very acquainted with the show so we never talked about getting a chorus to sing with us, but that would have been epic^^

  • @XxLittlexEmoxChildxX I would totally have sung the opening for you, I Submit my qualifications on my Youtube channel ;-)

  • @8UP1977 haha that would have been cool, but I don't think wer'e playing it again anytime soon which kinda sucks.. at least not while I'm at that school =P but it was still epic X3

  • @tgarnett25 LOL, can you imagine that with the season one vocals for the "Quest For Iscandar." Still, your band did a fine, fine job.

  • I bet the conductor had chills.

  • Absolutely awesome! Way to keep a great song alive. Star Blazers/Yamato forever!

  • so awesome guys!!! u guys should play at a comic con...

  • SO AWESOME!!! Great tribute to the best sci-fi anime EVER!!!

  • AWESOME!!! plain and simple.

  • GREAT JOB!! GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS!

  • I wonder how many of these kids even know about Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato? 'Cause, they should!

  • Awesome! This is one well-tuned band!

I had a slightly scary thought, though - here in Philadelphia, we have a New Year's Day tradition called the Mummers' Parade, where outlandishly-costumed performers strut up Broad St.

I could just imagine one of the more than a dozen string bands which participate in this annual tradition playing this song!

  • @OldsVistaCruiser i hear that fellow philly-ite

  • Great.

  • "The Birth" es un tema precioso de Miyagawa Hirosi. Una serie de anime que vi por ahi por 1974-1975 en mi primera infancia. Por siempre Yamato, Nave Espacial, Star-Blazers. Excelente!!!.

  • damned original for a band to think of this! i'm surprised some college football team hasn't adopted it for their theme song:)

  • This is really amazing. I loved that show. Now my 4 YO son loves it too. Thanks to this now he wants to join band. LOL Great job Port Angels!!!!!

  • I have been of this series far back as 1979. Good job.

  • @MrArtist24 Please forgive me. I have been fan of this anime series as far back in the 1979. You did outstanding job. Thank you

  • OK, now that was cool! Kinda strange to think I watched the show as a kid and now someone from my generation has their ki playing the theme in band. How many other shows of any kind from 30 years ago have high school bands playing the theme in another country?

  • go port angeles :) wow 23,343 views rare for port angeles ppl ...

  • its really great not just great more then great

Yamato is one of the best anime themes ever

also its kind of nice that to know that there is lover of that anime even in america not just in middle east like me in here lol

  • Hearing great themes from a live orchestra is one of the greatest experiences. THe Star Blazers/Yamato theme is as good as any John Williams score. Great performance! GO WASHINGTON!!!

  • Great. One of the few times AMERICA does something like this.

    Why is this?

My theory: we're too caught up in brain-melting reality television and shows about terrorists

  • I wish there was a concert where all of the music was anime music like this. I would pay to see and listen to it. labelashavoc (:~>?=

  • Just awsome.

  • yamato never dies!!! has been around since 74 and here it is 2010 and now we get the live action movie! ran home from school as a kid to watch, now at 42 i will be running to the movies to see it!

  • Go get them the movie is out on Dec the 1st !!!!

  • this is fn awsome! every school band should be required to learn this ...and the robotech theme too...

  • WOW! I am totally geeking out to this!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, that's all I can say... Wow!

  • impressive.

  • HA HA HA I loved that show as a kid!!!

One of the most epic high school band moments I've ever seen WELL DONE :)

  • WOW! Love seeing that live!

  • Well done!

  • Freakin fanstastic!!! Why didn't they do this when I was in HS?!?!?

  • That makes two of us! At least ONE high school band had their heads on the RIGHT way!

  • @stanshan69 Most likely THAT band teacher was in H.S. at the SAME time you were!

  • Wonderful! Being Ex-BigBrass, I would have LOVED to play this song!

  • Totally Awesome! PERFECT performance!!!

    5*****!

  • So completely awesome! What a terriffic job!

    Well done!

  • AMAZING RENDITION

  • This rocks!!!!!!! My band teacher wasn't this cool!

  • amazing, wonderfull! :-)

  • Great job.

  • What a great job I love the starblazers/Yamoto theme I was and always be my favorite afternoon cartoon show great job kids!!!!

  • Well. That was an intersting school year i have to say. Btw i was the tuba player for this and we had a lot of fun doing this one. Our jazz band even did a jazz version of this.

  • Thats awesome did you happen to see any of the shows while you guys were learning the song at school?

  • Wish we could hear THAT version as well.

I think they should have taken your Coral group and sang the theme song, That would have brought the audience to their feet.

    Great Job.

  • To ALL high schools NATIONWIDE and WORLDWIDE-TAKE NOTE!

  • WONDERFUL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • WONDERFUL! Thank you Mondo Band and Ed! Japanese Live Action film coming next December!

  • Bloody FANTASTIC!!! I watched Star Blazers in Victoria Canada at 5:30 am every weekday morning. Now own them on VHS and DVD. You guys sound great!!! My band won the nationals for the 1812 overture and you sound better than we ever did. Thanks Don for posting and getting the music to the kids!!

  • Nothing quite like Yamato,

If only Michael Bay had seized upon Yamato instead of Transformers, it would be different world today.

  • He would have wrecked it.

  • wow..I'd never thought I'd ever hear a high school band play the theme song to one of my beloved childhood cartoons..awesome!!

  • I grew up with Starblazers too. First time I've seen a live band do this though. Very cool :)

  • I bet this band director watched it on the same station that I did as a kid. KSTW in Seattle aired Star Blazers in 1979 in the morning before school. This is so cool.

  • AWSOME!!!! I Watched this when I was kid. Good you guys.

  • yeahh!

  • Got it 99% right. Few notes are off though. But, overall EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE!!!

  • very good rendition

  • It is indeed a great piece of music.

  • Amazing, Charming

  • Bravo! Saraba... Chikyu yo......

  • If I had to pick the top ten songs of a lifetime, this what would be in it.

  • Holy shit!

  • Wonderful.. brings back great memories. Thanks!

  • very nice :-)

  • very cool!

  • this year at the San Diego Comic con, they showed clips for a new Space Cruser Yamato/Starblazers movie, int comes out in Japan in December of this year

  • Out Frigging Standing!! Well Done!!!

  • The memries this triggers. Where I'm from, Star Blazers ran in sindication until the fall of 1986. I remember running home from school with my friends and brother just to watch it!

Hell, I remember be outside in the summer time with my pals playing with GI Joe or TFs and then at exactly 2:25pm we ran inside to get settled in for another epidsode of Star Blazers! It's like nothing else mattered or existed for that 1/2 hour every day. Star Blazers was a religion for us LOL

    Awsome job guys!

  • i hear you there sby!!..used to come on at 3:30 here in the east..lol...so you'd have to run home...

  • oh man...geez...you just described my childhood...only difference is Starblazers started at 3:30 where I was and then Battle of the Planets came on right after Starblazers. LOL

  • Man I made sure to rush home from school to watch it. One of the few cartoons where if you missed an episode you missed what was happening! I lived in NYC and used to watch Capt. Harlock on ch 47 on Sats at 8pm. The good ol' days.

  • wow. one of the few people who predate me .. all i got was g-force and then robotech. but i somehow managed to see starblazers episodes and captain harlock, and galaxy express/spacetrain 999 etc. those ARE the good old days.

  • I agree on that one...LOL
