Wow after all of these years it still never gets old! I loved playing this song but having this on youtube will always be special. I will remember this day forever!
@airplanemaster1 The Gamilons planet is full of radiation, thats why they want earth to be full of radiation, they are resistant on radiation, and dont forget , this was made in 1974 , and if you can find watch 25 and 26 episode of fist season of Yamato , ( dont watch english dub its horrible , they change a lot of meaning of original , try to find subed ) oyu can find a lot of emotions , i love Yamato crew , most of them are so wonderfull .
@airplanemaster1 And you need to see , the main thing in Yamato is interaction of crew and the love and tragedy that they suffer on they way , and if you can manage to see other anime and cartoon of that era you will see that Yamato was on diferent level, it was serious and really the masterpiece of that time and music was really nice and huge, it is performed and used after so much time.
haha this is awesome! All these bands playing warcraft soundtracks and anime themes... it's just no freaking fair, what did we get? Pomp and Circumstance that's what!
The conducting looked like it was going through a time warp, not in sync with the music, but an admirable performance by the band. Sure hope many of them are now fans of Yamato!
One of the best scores done by a high school band! You should be very proud of yourselves and this is why music is important in school! Also a EXCELLENT salute to the best animated series, EVER!!!!!!
Now That Was COOOOLL!!!, Hey my son is in band Level 2 in high school, Is there any way I could get the music sheets so that my son's high school can play it! Thanks for a great video!!
they did amazing, absolutely amazing, i would of literally jumped out of my chair during band if we got to play this in high school
little off topic:always could not stand the english name for the show, space battleship yamato is where it is at! the ship is named Yamato, not a-whatever
@daiatlas2010 - The real Yamato is at the bottom of the South China Sea, sunk on April 7, 1945 after at least 11 American torpedoes and 8 bombs (maybe even 2 more torpedoes - unconfirmed) struck the largest battleship ever floated.
Personally, I knew the starship as the Argo, and the name evokes the classic tale of Jason and the Argonauts.
Well-done by the band, as some here have correctly stated, most of those band members weren't even born yet when the show was popular.
although i appreciated it, it didn't seem like the kid's playing it really cared or put their hearts into it.(look at them at the end in the close-ups, they look almost embarrased, or confused) i thank the band teacher for being cool. too bad the band wasn't comprised solely of otaku's! this should have brought the house down!! i liked it anyway, though.
Most of these kids were too young to have even seen Starblazers. I grew up on it but to these kids it's obscure geezer stuff. They did do a good job though.
@bsgfan1 That, and it's not a cartoon. It's an animated series. Cartoons involve talking animals and chandeliers (Loony Tunes, Disney, etc). I love cartoons too - but anime like this is simply a different category. (the misconception that anything animated is a cartoon is annoying lol)
@usquanigo right on lol. animated series usually deal in more mature themes. cartoons usually don't have characters, villains or otherwise, die. yet there's the yamato blasting the life out of gamilion warships. o well. still, star blazers is one of the best animated series out there along with the Harlock saga and Macross
@bsgfan1 Actually, the accent on the first syllable (YA-ma-to) is the correct Japanese pronunciation. Watch any of the Space Battleship Yamato clips here on YouTube (the subtitled ones, not the dubbed-into-English ones) and you'll hear the original Japanese voice actors using this pronunciation.

@8UP1977 haha that would have been cool, but I don't think wer'e playing it again anytime soon which kinda sucks.. at least not while I'm at that school =P but it was still epic X3
I had a slightly scary thought, though - here in Philadelphia, we have a New Year's Day tradition called the Mummers' Parade, where outlandishly-costumed performers strut up Broad St.
I could just imagine one of the more than a dozen string bands which participate in this annual tradition playing this song!
"The Birth" es un tema precioso de Miyagawa Hirosi. Una serie de anime que vi por ahi por 1974-1975 en mi primera infancia. Por siempre Yamato, Nave Espacial, Star-Blazers. Excelente!!!.
OK, now that was cool! Kinda strange to think I watched the show as a kid and now someone from my generation has their ki playing the theme in band. How many other shows of any kind from 30 years ago have high school bands playing the theme in another country?
Hearing great themes from a live orchestra is one of the greatest experiences. THe Star Blazers/Yamato theme is as good as any John Williams score. Great performance! GO WASHINGTON!!!
yamato never dies!!! has been around since 74 and here it is 2010 and now we get the live action movie! ran home from school as a kid to watch, now at 42 i will be running to the movies to see it!
Well. That was an intersting school year i have to say. Btw i was the tuba player for this and we had a lot of fun doing this one. Our jazz band even did a jazz version of this.
Bloody FANTASTIC!!! I watched Star Blazers in Victoria Canada at 5:30 am every weekday morning. Now own them on VHS and DVD. You guys sound great!!! My band won the nationals for the 1812 overture and you sound better than we ever did. Thanks Don for posting and getting the music to the kids!!
I bet this band director watched it on the same station that I did as a kid. KSTW in Seattle aired Star Blazers in 1979 in the morning before school. This is so cool.
this year at the San Diego Comic con, they showed clips for a new Space Cruser Yamato/Starblazers movie, int comes out in Japan in December of this year
The memries this triggers. Where I'm from, Star Blazers ran in sindication until the fall of 1986. I remember running home from school with my friends and brother just to watch it!
Hell, I remember be outside in the summer time with my pals playing with GI Joe or TFs and then at exactly 2:25pm we ran inside to get settled in for another epidsode of Star Blazers! It's like nothing else mattered or existed for that 1/2 hour every day. Star Blazers was a religion for us LOL
oh man...geez...you just described my childhood...only difference is Starblazers started at 3:30 where I was and then Battle of the Planets came on right after Starblazers. LOL
Man I made sure to rush home from school to watch it. One of the few cartoons where if you missed an episode you missed what was happening! I lived in NYC and used to watch Capt. Harlock on ch 47 on Sats at 8pm. The good ol' days.
wow. one of the few people who predate me .. all i got was g-force and then robotech. but i somehow managed to see starblazers episodes and captain harlock, and galaxy express/spacetrain 999 etc. those ARE the good old days.
When I was a kid, I had a paper route. I was up before dawn. I'd walk the route and come home and get ready for school. Star Blazers were on in the morning and I would watch them and eat my cereal. I always knew it was time to head out when the show was over.
I'm 42 now and still love Star Blazers.

Awsome job guys!

Man I made sure to rush home from school to watch it. One of the few cartoons where if you missed an episode you missed what was happening! I lived in NYC and used to watch Capt. Harlock on ch 47 on Sats at 8pm. The good ol' days.
