antigua was my least favorite island that i've visited. it is poor and dirty. you don't see that on these videos. the water is a vivid blue, until you get in. it's pretty murky at the beach. if you want to do some snorkeling, you'll have to get on a boat away from the beach. if you go to a beach, you get harassed by islanders trying to make money any way they can. we spent about two hours at church hill beach and was approached no less than 20 times. the people seem very nice other than that.

@macariollamasmd...So im an Antiguan and everything you're saying is not 100% true! Yes, we are a tad bit expensive but it all depends on where yu go to spend your money but other than that, the island is wonderful! We are qite hospitable an we are more hospitable to visitors. Im currently studying hospitality management so i am interested in tourism. So folks, dont let this person discourage u. Antigua is 1 of the most beautiul islands out there! I love my home! Don't b disrespectful!

We recently visited the island of St. Lucia. It was simply amazing. We stayed in one of the beautiful hotels Islelander had recommended. Overall the staff was fantastic, and not to mention how friendly the locals were. The one problem we did have was quickly rectified by our Islelander guide Miguel. Wonderful Island for couples and singles. one last thing before I end this; I want to thank Janus and his Islelander team for making our vacation easy and hassle free. . Cindy

Antigua like the rest of the ex-British Islands is poor and struggling to create an economy. Tourism dollars tend to stay within a select few families with the trickle down theory being just that. The mega yachts in Falmouth Harbour pay servicing dollars through a business, so the real money does not go to those doing the work.

The crime is on the rise with local politicians holding up real reform. Too many police chiefs have quite or been fired in frustration. Visiting, stay on the resort.

Taxis do not have a set rate because like most things in the island there are disorganized and lazy. It is up to you to visit but for me one time was to many.

I was in the island for couple of mounts and I did not see art or good restaurants other then the ones inside the big hotel (they do have good food because its international but the prices are a bit expensive) this peoples opinion about my opinion only reflect they lack of respect towards other, this is the same in the island so many shushes and so many religions and for what.

i think Antigua is great. i live here and i love it. the people are great there are lots of vegetation many people farm here. there are lots of people that do fantastic arts and craft stuff. i have taken taxi's before and many of them and i have never been over charged and i am a white person as well and a rich one at that. there are lots of resturants that are nice that you could also eat at that are not expensive. i mean it is not a rich island but the people are sure to welcome you.

wow macariollamasmd you are a very small minded person. it is very obvious that you did not go any where in antigua when you were here. this place has sooo many arts and crafts stuff. the taxi people do not rip you off they all have a set amount of money they have to charge you. you should ask the next time to see that rates. the food is great maybe not to you because you are accustom to some fast food shit food. just take a gun and shoot it in your head you do not deserve to live.

No, I mean restaurants like Harmony Hall (granted, it's expensive) and the food in the marketplace is good and authentic. The art, local crafts and stuff, while not polished are often very good in their own way.

What are you comparing Antigua to? Bermuda?

Please people this video is good but the place is not, people in this island are inconsiered, root and the taxi driver as soon as they see you white they will still you money charging you 2X the amount. Dont let this video or other take you for a ride this place is poor and lacks any culture othere then dronken man and fat root women

Well, the island is a very poor and I understand why taxi drivers would charge tourists more than they charge locals. Is it right? I don't know.

I also don't think the Afro-Carib culture is just about drunken men and fat women. How about the music, the food, the native art?

It is. It's pretty poor and there are a lot of contrasts, but we have always considered it a lovely island and very authentic.
