Notice, how he lets some notes breathe, gives some notes a rest after its been shredding. Thats quite important to remember if your crap at improv, just play the solo like its speaking, strongly expressing emotions when playing fast, and calming down when the fretboard needs a rest, treat it with respect, give them a chance to breathe.
