Grew up with this. Ernie D. cut my hair every few weeks, and even gave me a ride home once, when I was 14 or so, after making me stay after for a few hours to watch the girls pass by the shop. A2 rocks.
I left Ann Arbor for college in the fall of 1977, and somehow never made it back. (Pioneer, class of '77) Amazing how it looks exactly as I remember it as a used to ride by bike around downtown. I used to play pinball at,"the Psychadelic Moose". My Dad had an office up that stairway, which I believe is right next to Michigan Theatre. He was a friend of JT Abernathy and took me to his pottery studio one. Boy how I wish I was back there right now to enjoy the autumn weather.
Thank You! I grew up in A2 in the mid 80's and lived there until the late 90's. So many memories. Dascola barbers, Sotini's sub shop, Kilwin's this is very nice! I hope to move back someday.
Glad you liked it. When you get back into town stop by the barbershop and say hello. The nice thing is that all three places you mentioned are still around. See you some day.
Thank you so much for this! I was just accepted as a grad student at Michigan and I feel like this video has given me a great feel for the kind of place it is! I really appreciate it!
How cool is that!!!! Congratulations on being accepted to the U. I have been an associate alumni since the 80's, and working downtown for 39 years. You won't be sorry you picked the U. Let me know what your going to study sometime.
Your very welcome. If you didn't see the one on Kerry Town it's called Ann Arbor Downtown People and Places-Part 3. Thanks for watching the video. Bob
I went to Pioneer way back when it was called Ann Arbor High. 4 years after I graduated they changed the name because of Huron High, and now were going to have Skyline High. The City is growing.
I never knew it was called that, why did they make skyline with the budget problems and everything? no one is going 2 go 2 it, i dont know anyone who wants 2 go to it.
The plan for Skyline was set up over 30 years ago. Nobody knew then that things would be so bad now with budget problems. As history proves, it will come back in time.....
thank u for the memories of a2.. i love that town..it is so beautiful..some of the best times of my life...im in hawaii now ..but ill nevr forget my experiences there..i managed new york pizza and took care of all the drunk fratt kids..what fun
i rememebr gratzi's!!!! oooh, yes used to hang in there with some friends, many nights, i miss it(and starbucks is agrotesque replacement)-- charlie chaplin? hm- reminded me of William Albright(RIP you ingenius ingenius man) and Bill Bolcom and the ragtime concerts they used to put on at the unitarian church every years. . .. ahhhh, i miss ann arbor, you've managed to capture some of the way it used to be here. . . .. much of what i miss is done gone long far away. . . . . thanks again!
Your very welcome and I hope you come back and visit us some time. Many changes going on. A friend of mine played the music, John Remmers for part one and two and Mark Lincoln Braun for part three. Both local guys and friends of Bill Bolcom. You have good taste in music.
In my life...There are places I remember...Great Vid.Loved the piano, and half expected Charlie Chaplin to give us a laugh again, but these are modern times.Have a great indian summer!Miss ya.From Ca. z
OOoh, yes, lizzie1127, I agree! how terribley i miss ann arbor before it got all fancy-pants! i miss drakes, and the quality, not to mention steve's ice cream, and borders- BEFORE it grew into the monster it is today, back when it was where cosi's is, and costello's, and the wildflour and sun bakeries. . .. oh! but this was lovely, came here homesik tonight, thank you m- dascola!

A lot of friends told me A2 is a lovely town to work. But it seems A2 is about 50 years behind Boston.
