its the lazer, with the disc tray error.. sometimes the lazer stays in the back and doesnt move to the front.. when you close the tray you need to wait untill you hear a little noise.. than you open it again put the disc in than it should work..

so that sound is the worm gear and motor that moves the laser, now i understand it's like the sound you would get from a stripped gear. the solution is to replace that worm gear.

1. you never leave your xbox on when taking it apart

2. not everyone has ur model of the drive. so when you make a video you have to be specific of what DRIVE you are using. Because people with benq drives have an attatched magnet

3. in order to take off the top peice, you need to unscrew the screws. you just said take it off. your going to get people to fuck up their xboxs if you arent specific of what you are doing.

The problem is due to the disc wobbling. i have spent a lot of hours diagnosing and trying to fix mine. putting pressure on the magnet helps the disc stop wobbling so the laser can read it, but most times the game stops working soon after you take your finger off. someone needs to post a good, permanent solution to this problem.

4:20 the reason putting ur hand on the top magnet works is because the bottom magnet is NOT FLAT AND LEVEL. The grinding sound is coming from the cd wobbling in the tray

I already fixed the problem and plus you can't just switch drive. Each xbox 360 has it's own drive that works with it. You can't switch drive because the mother board wouldn't recognize it.
