Okay, I know that this sounds bad because Keyboards and Bass volume is low, but that's directly out of the mixing console. You have no idea what kind of gain the speakers could have added. Out front, it probably sounded amazing. Of course, at the same time it could have sucked as well, but there's a chance that it sounded fine out front.

Okay, as a tech person I am so pissed off at the sound tech for this concert. Obviously the person is deaf or doesn't appreciate keyboards or bass guitars. They seriously need to pay more attention, as in turn down the damn mics on portnoys drum kit, turn up the keyboards and bass and just pay the f#$@ attention. As a bassist I am further angry that you can barely hear John Myung. Jeeze, I could teach my damn 12 year old cousin to run sound better than this person.

FOH mix and broadcast mix are two VERY different things. Since Download is a live festival, they got DT's guys to do the live mix. From my understanding, this is pulled off a a web feed, which is open for anyone to watch. As opposed to the paying customers at the venue. So no, the feed won't be very good. Why should it be?

And that's assuming that they even had a broadcast mix. More likely, it's a clone of the feed that's going to the mains. I'd be willing to bet that their guy has the subs on a separate pre-fader aux out, which means that there won't be much going to the mains; there will be enough for a bit of high-end click, which is all you hear in this, but the rest will be roaring out of the subs.

That is a possibility. I guess since I've seen so many live concerts broadcasted on tv or even on dvd and vhs I assume that the feed that we would be hearing is directly from the sound board. But definitely a good suggestion, I forgot about that.
