  • Thanks for posting this. :)

  • Hey, I am thinking about selling my 5150 block letter amp, and my cabinet, which is an ampeg V12. I was thinking about getting a combo amp, but I am not sure after hearing this amp. It sounds sweet. Anyway, my 5150 has a horrible hiss when I crank it for gigs. It helps when I turn the gain down. But really that is the main reason I wanted to part with it. And I noticed that before you started playing this amp that it has a hum. Can a noise gate stop that? Also, am I making a mistake by selling

  • @Steven04578 hum was from lights above, amp is very quiet actually. The G Major 2 introduces a slight buzz bu the lights magnify it greatly

  • hey dude would this amp be a good match for a more classical approach towards music like i mean arpeggios, piano related tapping , Phrygians, Ionians, and other classical things.. like almost a mix of Yngwie and vai

  • @rockking1995 definately, roll the gain down, mids up and away you go. I can dial in 70's through 90's Marshall tones with it.

  • @mrscott99 hey dude thanks also how good is the gain and also how good it work with like a Marshall cabinet and a Gemini pedal.(well of course it will work with a Gemini they're both steve's gear)

  • @rockking1995

THAT DEPENDS ON YOUR FINGERS & HOW THEY ATTACK THEM STRINGS; RIGHT ?

  • Sounds amazing, how much did you part with for the head? I wonder if it would sound good for my typical Black Metal sound, which I tend to go for a more Rock and Roll type sound over high gain nonsense! Think it could handle more extreme stuff? I'm quite partial to the Bogner Uberschall but the gain is just crazy!!

  • I have a deal with Carvin so I paid less but they are still cheap at 1299, it can due all kinds of differetn styles.

  • I'm VERY impressed with that clean tone with the G-Major 2 chorus effect! No secret I've been longing for my old Legacy tone again and your videos are convincing me I could be very happy with the switch. Nothing against my current amp, but the Legacy 1 proves in old vids that I had THE tone onstage.

Great stuff, Mr. Scott! Thumbs up!

  • @mrscott99 have you ever tried a Rivera k-tre? If so, how would you compare the legacy 2 to that?

  • @zillathegorilla I never have but have seen videos on riveras site and it is a much more modern voiced metal amp.

  • @mrscott99 did you make these recordings with the video camera mic or were you micing the cabinet? how close would you say this tone is to what it sounds like in person?

do you think that this amp would be suitable for dream theater type music? is there a lot of bottom end on this amp? When you hit a chord can you hear the note definition of all the strings like you can with a Rivera? I'm really torn between these two amps... Thanks a lot.

  • @zillathegorilla The camera mic was about 10 feet away. IT is pretty close, the amp sounds killer live, great bottom end and note definition, I think it would be fine for DT type music.

  • I always hear that hummmmmmm with tube amps. Is that normal? Because I never hear it when "pro guitarists" play their amps. Do they use something to silence it.

  • @alepaan If you go through the comments I addressed that, this amp is very quite actually, I have flourecent lights that create alot of noise in my basement with all my amps

  • @alepaan Try with some noise gates

  • @albertmetal93 did you not read, noise gates do not silence every single humm they will lesson it, especially with flourence lights 2 feet above and the fact i am sitting a few inches from th cab itself. live i don't need alot because the amp does't have noise

  • @mrscott99 I answered the question from alepaan, maybe it could help to him. I wasn't talking to you... Anyways, nice gear and sound.

  • @mrscott99 my apologies and thank you, i didn't realize u were answering someone elses question

  • SOUNDS NICE MAN & GREAT PLAYING !! whats the difference with the original and the II ?? I hear the original is really loud and harder to get a good od tone at low volume ?? I can get the original for $450 or $500 ....shoud I wait for a deal on the II ?? tHE ATOMIC punk riff sounds spot on

  • @jem7772 The 2nd Legacy has the MV and better parts and the added semi crunch channel. I prefer #2 I have had both, Legacy 1 is great but #2 is exceptional

  • great demo i had an original legacy a few years back, best sounding amp i ever owned, i will probably get one of these next year to add to my newly acquired jsx

  • u no that that vintage 30's are the same that marshall uses and marshall btw has the best tube amp heads and cabs

  • @guitarpro48 well your wrong there, all stock Marshall cabs come with GT 75's and greenbacks in the Vintage cabs. I will stack my Head against any new Marshall head and guarantee it will blow it away. Know your facts about Marshall before you speak

  • @mrscott99 Alright I have to comment here.G12h-30watt,G12m-100watt,1960 tv ha25watt greenbacks all stock.Every amp maker will refer to marshall in some way wether positive or negative.Marshall IS the benchmark by witch all others are judged period.

  • @wigmanite really not true since Fender and Vox are completely different and sound and are designed nothing like a Marshall.

  • @mrscott99 Yeah I guess your right about that.It seems that Marshall and Metal have always gone hand in hand since I started playing guitar in 1969.I got a mailer from Carvin this month and thats why I was on your site, trying to get a look at the Legacy 3.I did my first album without an amp.To each his own right.I know I could almost get a full Carvin stack for the price of one Marshall head go figure. You sure got me thinking about it.Made in the USA too.

  • @guitarpro48 Marshall hasn't had a good high gain amp since the 80's. But they do a good job of making amps that sound great after they have been modded. ;)

  • @Glydian Correction Marshall didn't have a high gain amp until the DSL/TSL and not a GOOD high gain until the JVM

so depending on your view theres been nothing good since JCM800's (80's as you say)

  • @Glydian and LOL! at making amps that sound good modded!

  • @guitarpro48 lol is all i can say to that comment.

  • @carvin1657 LOLOL

  • What kind of guitar is that? It's so rare to see Floyd equipped, SSH pickup config., 22 fret guitars anymore!

  • Floyd rose Discovery with a original Floyd. I put 6105 frets on it and Dimarzios and it sounds great and plays very well. 179.00 dollars new.

  • @organs i think that a HSS pup config floyd 22 frets maple neck/board and basswood/maple cap is the best guitar config

  • Oh man this amp sounds incredible! So tight and articulate yet very rocking and lots of sustain. Give me this over any Marshall of Fender. Cleans are absolutely beautiful. It's hard to find a good clean sound. I love my LoneStar Classic but would also love one of these!

  • I agree with earlier comments. I am on the fence with going with the Legacy I or the Legacy II. Post more vids of this amp!!! lol

  • I bet your neighbours love you.

  • I see you have an over sized 2x12 Bogner. Im thinking of getting one...opinions?

  • Really great video! The amp sounds really great, and the g major's effects sound also really amazing! Now I'm really gonna buy this amp and consider the gmajor too!

  • amazing sound! is Carvin Legacy 2 a good amp? thank you! amazing!

  • the best

  • nice playing

    I'm looking for an amp

I love the legacy sound but the egnator has some great reviews too

    what do you think?

  • bias to Carvin, Engnator is cool but for the raw tube sound the legacy kills

  • Dude I'm lovin the setup, how do you like your G Major?

  • Gmajor 2, it is really nice, when you learn how to you this device properly it works well, alot of people don't realize that this can be used in a series effects loop with great success with useing the series/parallel function on the presets so the modulation, filter and pitch effects go series while the delays and reverbs get mixed in a parallel fashion. THis newer version also has an intelligent pitch shift and univibe which is actually really good and track fast.

  • Do you gig with a midi controller?

  • yes, RJM mastermind, love this thing.

  • A lot of noise

  • If you read below you would see that I have flourecent lights right above me. The rig is actually extremely quiet when I gig. Flourecent lights and sitting right in front of your amp = hum no matter what amp

  • What is the best way to mike your cabinet for live playing?

  • SM 57 off axis meaning not in the center of the speaker cone. In between the center and the edge. off the grill by at least 1/8 inch to eliminate any vibrations

  • you look like Mauricio 'Shogun' Rua (the MMA fighter)

  • that's a lot of gear

  • Love the cleans on this second legacy - awesome demo!

  • Comment removed

  • Great tone , love the clean tones too ,nice demo.

  • sick tone

  • does the drive channel always sound so noisy? im waiting for my v3 combo...

  • It is not noisey, I am really close and my basement is noisey becasue of the lights.

  • vt50 demo:)?

  • I do have one but it is an much older one and it has been upgraded with MM OT and Choke, I can do one soon. I am getting a mic for my new HD video camera.

  • hey, Im looking for a new amp, a mesa dual rectifier and marshall jcm 2000 tsl... but I saw the carvin legacy II and I want to know the advantages and disadvantages of this amp over the mesa and the marshall... can you help me?

  • The Legacy is more reliable more natural sounding, can be controlled via Midi and has a master volume that actually works. I have nothing negative on the legacy at this time. Mesa's are fizzy soundy to me and Marshall are good but made alot cheaper now a days.

  • It makes that tiny Floyd guitar sound HUGE!

  • I feel sorry for the neighbours..I know I am for mine.

  • omfg! that's the real sound dude. I'm about to buy the legacy II with the cab

  • ooooooooooooo yes i like it :) sounds fooking great

  • Sounds great! Could you do something the intelligent pitch shifter? A run through of how it sounds with 4ths, 5ths, octave, etc...

    Thanks!

  • I will once my camera works again.

  • Thanks!

  • Wow! Great demo! Sounds sweet.

  • I am thinking of getting a G-Major or G-Major 2 and I wanted to know if the eq can cut some volume out of the mix, right now I use a boss pedal. I was hoping to replace my reverb pedal, eq pedal and possibly compressor pedal and take out my need for a delay pedal.

Also, if you know, do you see a huge difference in quality of the sound in the G-Major 1 and 2?

    Thanks

  • G Major 2 is better and the flexability of all the effects you mentioned work well. each patch can be taylored for different volumes.

  • That's cool, I will have to test out the 2 and the original to see. I'd like to save some money with a used G Major but if I really like the 2 maybe I'll put out the extra cash.

  • hey, im getting the x100 head with a legacy 212 or a vintage 212e cab, when in 100 watt mood would it blow my ears up?

  • Well, it will if you want it to, hahaha, but will also sound good turned down a bit. I've tried all 3 wattage settings and even in 100 watt mode you can still tuen it down and it sounds good to me. Definately louder than hell turned up tho.

  • Hi,

What about the G Major2, it is really nice for effects?

  • G Major 2 is really nice for the effects. Great chorus, reverbs, delays. The Intelligent pitch shifter is pretty cool. The Tracking is pretty close. Sometimes quick bends lack behind a bit.

  • Did you have the amp set at 25, 50, or 100 watts? I would imagine 100, but just curious. I just bought one of these still getting used to it. Really like it though.

  • Did you get the combo or half stack?

Is your gain channel very noisey or pretty quiet?

  • I got the half stack, and I find it to be pretty quiet, very happy with it.

  • 100 watts, I have tried the other two settings and it is pretty cool. You lose a little cleanliness on the cleans at the the 25 watt setting but the gain channel sounds nice.

  • What cord are your playing at 3:16? Thanks GJ

  • it is just a 1-5 chord with the added 2nd

  • "Tanks" . . . . GJ

  • I've had major hum probs on the Gain Channel with my Legacy 1 VL212 Combo, It seems from your demo that with the Legacy2 they haven't addressed this and it's exactly the same. Major hum.

  • Mr Scott told me the hum was from the basement light and that it was quiet on his gigs.

  • That bridge humbucker is a vintage output pick-up, not considered a "hot" pick-up, right? What about the Area 67? How does that stack up compared to other single coils? Just trying to get a frame of reference... Great Vid, I'm taking a serious look at the Legacy II!

  • the pickup output is about 285mv. Based on the Gibsons of old. Not hot at all but well balanced. The 67 is nice and quite and is like how they describe it. It captures that hendrix style

  • Nice Amp and nice playing. Like others have said, FINALLY A LEGACY II DEMO!! Do more please...when you get time, of course. Rock on

  • nice demo man!!

  • Damn they got it right this time. Thank you Carvin, Thank you Fargen, Thank you VAI!!!!!

  • Please put more vids up man. Right now you are the only one on youtube who has a Legacy II. I am sure you're a busy guy but please, we all want more.

  • With this clip I do hear a difference from my Legacy Combo version one. I like the Legacy one but this sounds like an improvement. I wish Vai would have added a Volume Boost like is on the V3. A very cool feature to have! Great demo, looking forward to more, and maybe a Harmony Central review in the future, maybe comparing some points and differences with the Legacy one. I won't be buying a Legacy 2 at present. I may wait until the prices decline a bit in a used market....Thanks

  • Very nice demos of this amp, sir! It is nice when you can hear a demo of all of the various sounds, and how each pickup will sound, and on each channel. You explained things very thoroughly. Your demo was extremely useful and well thought out - thank you! I really wanted to see that demo with the pedals in front of the amp you promised us. I hope you will get the time to do that soon.

    Thanks, GeneM

  • Gene, I will do the pedal demo this week, I was waiting on my new camera that I just got that takes 1080p HD videos as well as awesome pics. I will use a Scott Henderson RC Booster, an Analogman KOT Version 4, Noc3 Firefly and maybe some modulation effects like Phase 90, flanger and deja Vibe. I should have it done and up by Friday becasue I am going on a well needed vacation with my wife and daughter and week from tomorrow.

  • Hey man,Awesome demo,I noticed you said bypass the reverb and reach to your rack. This amp have a tank,or digital,or neither and just running it out of your Gmajor??

  • Do you prefer the G major effects over pedals? Maybe alot less noisey?

  • True, but I am a doof when it comes to these big units and can never dial anything in just right.I have the Gsystem and never use it because of that.I do buy only great pedals,Radial,Diamond,TC,Fulton,Duncan, etc through the RJMrg16 and simply assign to my midi.Sounds great my set up w/out amps is over 2g so it better, lol, but thats what works for me and it hangs with anything else Ive had it next to.

  • Very cool. How does it sound at lower volume levels, I remember Vai saying something about how it can still sound good at lower volumes but I dont know if he was full of it or not.

  • It sounds pretty good at lower volumes. Nothing will sound the same from 1 to 10. When the 25 watt setting is used it sounds pretty damn good as well. You loose a little on hte cleaniness on the clean channel but still very good.

  • Cool, thanks.

  • How is it compared to the normal legacy? Same tone except the "2nd" channel?

  • No, some similarities but overall better. Gain is tighter more defined and cleans are more shimmery

  • Hey, do you use an added distortion pedal at your gigs with this amp. I wonder how a Satchurator pedal would be with it for leads?

  • I don't think the Satchurator would do this amp any good, I use a RC booster or Analogman KOT. I didn't like the Satchurator as it is to fizzy for my taste. I think it would ruin the sound of the legacy. A nice transparent OD I feal would be best.

  • I saw a Satchurator on Neal Schons rig and I just wondered if he was using it with clean channels or with his amp distortion.

I agree, the Legacy does have a unique tone. I don't know why Neal doesn't use them because of their great solo sounds.

  • SCREAMING!!!!!! harmonics

  • Man...that thing has some spank! When you bust out the split pickup clean tone, that sounds almost exactly like "Time Stand Still" tone by Rush! Big fan!

  • Sounds really great!

I do hear alot of hum/hiss when you first turned gain up, would a noise reducer solve that problem?

  • Above lighting, it is not noisy when I play at gigs, my lighting in my basement screws me big time.

  • thanks for posting...you're the first on the net putting great samples I'm waiting for...thanks again

  • thanks bro, keep 'em coming, nobody else is at this point :)

  • Best Legacy II Sample on the Internet!! Thank you Scott!

  • What a great helpful Video! Scott Rules!
