  • I'm I a terrible person for thinking that drop G isnt brutal but rather hilarious?

  • Where's the Universe decal on the headstock?

  • drop e flat is lowest tuning ever hahahaha

  • string's gauge? cos i cant find enough tension with a 0.60 on A

  • @jagmaster89, us a 70 for the g

  • @jagmaster89 there are websites where you can make your own gauges. but try the daddario 13-62 and but a 10 gauge for the high E. or you can get an 8 string back of ernie balls 74-10 i think.

  • This is pretty cool, but you should watch this - this is in G standard

  • ITS actually G-D-G-C-F-A-D i play drop d on my 7 at all times

  • @kupcake888 you are right.

  • @kupcake888 Then it's not Drop D!!

  • @bendthatstring

Here is how I do that drop thing on the guitar. I basically drop all the strings one whole step the low B strng even a step further down. Its a bit touchy getting in tune that low, but you have to lock you bridge fixed which I've done by putting wedge something between the wood and the tremolo block inside the guitar.

    B ->A->G

    E ->D

    A -> G

    D ->C

    G -> F#

    B ->A

    E -> D

  • @merqury5 F not F#

  • theres no correct way of playing guitar asshole, its a way of expressing yourself, he obviously made this video to show what he can play in drop G tuning and honestly ive never tuned that far down so i think its pretty cool

  • What an awesome guitar! How much did it cost you? Sounds great.

  • dude.. there's more than just bar chords. Notes exist too man, try some of those.

  • @zdefinexnormal If you'll have a look at my other vids youll se a lot of notes in use. The point of this video however was the low end riffing sound of this guitar. Thanks for watching though.

  • you don't know how to play this thing man...

    but

    good luck anyway

  • @kubamesh well exuse me then, would you be so kind as to explain to me how it should be played. If there is in your view one correct way to do it.

  • @kubamesh at least he isn't tuning like that on a 6 string with humbuckers like the douche n the last video i watched lol.

  • @kubamesh There is no "correct" way. A guitar is meant to be the tool for creativity to flow out of. People saying this make me sick.

  • Drop G is so stupidly stupid, it should not exist.

  • @ThereWereNoGoodNames G tuning can sound great if used correctly/good tone.

    Just look at Devin Townsend.

  • @ThereWereNoGoodNames You should not exist my fine sir

  • does this sound good mic'ed up?

  • its awesome that you have a UV (yes i believe you) but is that headstock as beat to shit as it looks? it looks like an ibanez rip off company headstock

  • @deathcore1239 You know what actually happened her was that the first owner, a famous norwegian guitarist, didn't like the original head, so he stripped it down, cut the tip off and painted it red. I made and glued on a new tip myself, but it was porly done and looks like shit as you say. I am going to refurbish this guitar one glorious day, but till then it'll have to stay mangled. Cheers mate, I just posted a new vid of this guitar btw, with some new sounds.

  • Today I, just by accident called a music store and they said they had a NOS (New Old Stock) Peavey Triumph 60 combo with a 112 speaker for $ 395.00. It has been sitting in the store a long time but never sold. Are these old Triumph amps all tube in the pre and post sections? The one I found on the Peavey website says it has 3-12AX7's in the pre and 2 6L6GC in the power section. Is this true and do you think this amp is worth the $395.00 since it's never been sold. Do they sound goodThanks.

  • @lyerlyman That sounds interesting. The things you get with a triumph is a lovely clean, extreme volume and angry gain, but there is no omph if you know what I means, you cant use it like a marshall, so try it first. Moneywise I'd look at the second hand market first to compare prices, ive paid under 100$ for the last 3 I got, but thats a steal! They are in deed ALL tube and compress at full volume just right,

  • Do you like drop G? I love it. I use D'addario Jazz Lights (hate the sound but hey theyre thick) 1-.011 2-.015 3-.022 4-.030 5-.040 6-.050 7-.065 I can personally reach drop F on these if I wanted to.

  • is it a universe?

  • @zenati7 It is in deed a universe, check out my other vid in my channel where I film the details of the guitar to prove it to some other guy here that refused to believe it. It heavely alterdt with the paint, pickboard headstock and more.

  • @merqury5 I BELIEVE YOU,

  • You need to practice, son

  • @ebolahash That fact is not something I need to be told, its pretty plain that I am no Petrucci, but I accept that and play for fun. The band I play in play plain rock and I have enough chops to be able to apply my own musical input to it, and thats really what its all about, not being able to copy Petrucci and Vai's chops, its all about making music.

  • damn thats low as fuck lol but it sounds epic

  • Thank you! I looked at his profile and it seems like this is what he does, he surfs around beeing troublesome so lets just ignore him.

I am going to refinish this guitar properly real soon now, cant wait to show you all.

  • nice man, 4/5 keep it up

  • well bro regardless of whatever everyone is fighing about, this is pretty cool. :)

  • Thank you!

  • this never was and never will be a UV man, and practice a little more without the noise.

  • That comment almost got me started. I really dont care much if you believe that was an Universe or not, but I am waging that you just dont know enough about them to recognize one, look for the heel plate, the jack input, precense of a picguard and think of a UV7 black and green and realize your mistake, I will take the neck off and film the UV-7 stamp inside the heel to prove you wrong if it comes to that. Convinced?

  • @merqury5 FULL - o - shit!

  • what do you mean? You still dont believe me? Tell me then what other 7 string ibanez than a universe had the reversed jack input? or bolt on neck???+

Come on, if you are going to discuss this you should at least come with some arguement other than "I think so"?

The tip of the headstock was sawed off by the previous owner, marius muller, but I made a prop and glued it on. Put on a new pickguard and only one pickup.

What other 7 string ibanez has had a picguard??

  • @MrTruthNLies FULL - o - shit!

  • Play more accurately without noise

  • Its a jam man, not a performance, and I can't play that much better either so not much I can do.

  • 7-струнка!! Балбес, покажи достоинство - тон. Си!??

  • You have to use the western alfabet man!

  • You the moron Russian do not know?

  • Isn't b-1 the brown noise that's makes ppl shit themselves XD

  • I think brown noise is made up of a bit more than that but it'd be a really fun trick at a concert having everyone dump in their pants, or maybe not... Can you reach a B1 on a guitar?

  • You probably could reach it, but you'd need an obnoxiously thick string.

  • @dropkik24 the brown note is like 3 octaves below a bass's e lol

  • dude, that looks just like Fredrik Thordendal's old seven string!!!

is that custom-made or store bought?!

  • hey man, its a universe underneath, but I painted it at made a new picboard for it to see what it looked like, you cant tell on the vid that its rough. Doing the job properly soon.

  • universe ?? No way !

  • I'm not having this discussion again, just read a bit back in the comments and you'll have the explaination. Its absolutely a universe, its just been mistreated in the worst possible way. It doesn't matter that much though, the point is that its a sevenstring and a slim neck.

  • What in hell is with all these Fs and Cs, sharps and flats..?

    Wikipedia claims that drop-A is exclusively (A E A D Fb B).

I say drop-A is supposed to be BEADGBE with the low B dropped to A, and drop-G is GDGBEA.

I believe common F-Standard tuning is (F Bb Eb Ab C F), which I do not understand.

Why not FBEADF? I tune to that and FBEACF for "F-Standard", which I then drop to E. That is Djent tuning IMO. Meshuggah have eightstrings not for going down to an F but for retaining highs.

  • I agree with you on the understanding of the term DROP, the low string is there supposed to be dropped a step. Other than that I am no expert so I cant really help on this, I'm sure someone else will.

And don't believe everything you read on wiki, its guys like us who write those pages!

  • btw, i love universe' so beautiful.

  • i swear the reasoning behind the Fs, Cs, sharps and flats, is so scales can be played proper with the same shape, when switching from a 6 string to a 7 string.

if that made any sense ahaha.

  • That'd be interesting to hear, are you using an RG2228? System of a down are not detuning that much but it doesn't get much harder that them so its not all in the tuning it should be said.

  • doesn't get much harder than system of a down? please, listen to something like scar symmetry, they're in standard B tuning on a 7 for almost all the songs and they're heavy as hell

  • I said "not much harder" that leaves room for something harder so I am on dry land on this, I will check out symmetry, I love hard music, but its got to have some brain to it, I am a prog fan and therefore I am used to the whole package. My favorite bands are Queen and Dream Theater and between those there is a lot of great music.

  • lol ya i'm a prog guy too. My favorite bands are Dream Theater, Pagan's Mind, Symphony X, Firewind, the list goes on

  • Lol? Ten octaves? DROP-e? Go fuck yourself dude.

E4-Standard/drop-D3 are the standard tunings. An octave below is where I am at on my 28.5" sixstring baritone, E3-Standard/drop-D2.

Drop-E is a step or half step or whatever the fuck ABOVE standard tuning. Drop-D is standard tuning. An octave below standard tuing is bass tuning, drop-D2, with a .100 gauge low D on my guitar.

  • Dude I'm serious

My guitar is tuned 10 octaves below drop E (EBEADGBE)

  • Buddy, ten octaves below drop-E4 is inaudible. You would need like a seven inch thick string...one octave below is at a bass's tuning. An octave below is as far as you can go with any real tone. An octave further, you are feeling the notes more than hearing them.

You clearly do not comprehend what an octave is. If you tune a guitar up to F4-Standard, drop the low F to E, you are at drop-E. Below E is D, then C..B..A..G..F, and then E again, where I'm assuming you're at. Drop-E3.

    Make vids.

  • haha I'm sorry for being a pain in the ass. I was just kidding, wasn't that obvious? ;)

By the way, have anyone tried to tune a 30" scale 8 string Agile to EADGCFAD?

That would be heavy, but not as heavy as 10 octaves below drop E ;) haha

  • I have a 28.5" Agile tuned to DADGBE. My eightstring is at AEADGBEA, an octave below common drop-A. How did you come up with that tuning? All I ever do is drop the lowest string a step from a standard tuning, such as F-Standard/drop-E.

I have a goal of F2-Standard/drop-E2, which is the lowest drop tuning of the bass octave....which is an octave below Meshuggah. I am building a ninestring, but I will do on a 30" baritone eight.

  • nice! do you have any vids of you playing with these extra low tunings?

If you don't I'm looking forward to see it someday =)

  • wow, now i need to see some videos of that whenever its done!

  • I looked this up to see if it be too muddy but it sounds good

  • Thanks for that, I wish I'd been able to pick up the sound directly not via the hall, but its ok. The peavey tube amps have alot of power to keep the speaker under control. I promise to redo this vid some time.

  • what gauge string are you using?

  • here I am using pretty standard 010's, I think the B is a 056 alternatively 072, I honestly dont remember, but its the thinnest one I can use I remember.

  • I've tuned all the way to the seventh circle of hell on mine, I went to E on the seventh string, which is three and a half steps down

  • That'd be really cool to hear along with a backingtrack, tell us if you upload!

  • by the way dude, your sound is awesome,, BUT!!!

only IF!! you play only as a single player, trust me,, after you use this sound to play in a band(here comes the drum and bass, and maybe 2nd guitar), your tonal and your clarity will totally disappear, and no one notice what note are you playin'... the audience will only hear zzzZZZzzzaHH,, zzzZZZzzzaHH,, zzzZZZzzzaHH...

hope this can be a constructive criticism

except you still wanna play with 7 string

    peace

    \m/

  • Hey Joe

Interesting thought, you might be right. I am also an audio engineer (Bsch) and have struggled with distorted guitars many a time. If I compress the hell out of it and use a dynamic mic I sometimes get some punch out to the audience, but its a struggle. I think my sound could be a real struggle since its so bottom heavy. In my recordings its hard to utilize the whole spectrum of it, but John Petrucci manages it, so I havent given up.

Have you had any success with it?

  • hi too....

well,, in my oppinion, (o-oh... i am talking to engineer, tell me if i'am wrong here).. i would never use 7 string to get some heavy sound, to punch the sound more, or to get natural bass frequency.. because droping 7 string, like what you tell to "bassistofawsomeness".. the human audience can't hear clearly the exact tone... so i still use 6 string, and the maximum down-tune is drop c.. the more we down tune, the more we have to decrease bass boost... or we will loose the tube sound

  • There is a corrolation between the stronger bass in a downtuned 6-string and the string tension.

When you pick a dt'ed E string which will be looser than a 7th string at C, the whole E string will vibrate more than the 7th str. This will result in more mass transversing the magnetic field and such inducing more output from the coil in the p-u. This low freq swinging of the string will therefore give more bass than a 7th string at C.- so you are right. I do prefer the pitched 7th string clarity.

  • i agree.. today my 6 str guitar inserted with 7 str set. ( don't use the first str, can i do this? or destroy my guitar?(jack kevin bond)), i don't hav web cam, sorry. Tonal is mor clear than dt'ed 6 string and sounds cool. :) (2 step 7 str dt'ed). Then i play with my friend (bass 5 string). But after we both play the low freq overwhelming. can you help how control low freq? or is't true that i've to decrease my bass potentio lower than the normal 6 str? i set all potentio mtr at 1 o'clock.

  • NO there is a drop Z tunning i invented it!!! only dogs can hear it

    lmaooo

  • Ha ha, thats funny, its said that animals can sense low frequenzy rumbles in the earth that preambles an earthquake so who knows.

my god, there is some crappy playing in this vid, but its for the sound of it I must keep reminding myself....

  • Fun Fact: The lowest note audible to human ears is B-1.

  • does the tonelab handles well the drop G stuff ? i am thinking about buying one ...

  • Tonelab is a analog thingy mostly and therefore does low tuning just fine. There may be some output filters in it, but I dont know that for a fact.

  • hey ! thanks ;)

  • Ah.. video was takin forever to load, i caught glimpse of the pick guard... i assume you covered up the cavities with that?

  • hey,, thanks for commenting, Its a temporary home mod. I just made it up to look like that to see if it looked cool or not. It kind of does. Its my riffing guitar so it doesn't need a neck pu. I have a Petrucci for soloing. I'll be reposting this vid once I figure how to get desent audio in synch on it.

So its a homemod universe 7BK.

  • yea man, it definitely looks cool, i see alot of people covering up cavities the easy way with a pickguard.

  • The universe comes with a picguard so its quite easy to make a new one. I just removed the old one and drew around it on the material I was going to use for making a new one. Then I cut it out with a knife. The job wasn't very well done so I am going to have to redo it. And all the electronics while I'm at it. I'm an engineer so its fun and easy for me.

  • yea its always nice seeing people mod 7s... i never have the guts to mess with any of mine haha

  • is that modded or a custom RG? only Ibanez 7s ive ever seen with one humbucker were LACS (most likely Dino Cazares customs) or home-modded ones, since universes are H-S-H configuration.

  • but I want a Ibanez Universe really bad

  • You could def use higher gauge strings but personally I dont like it because it hinders my playing. A 0012 E string doesnt bend the same way for me and that doesn't fit with how I want to play. For pure riffing its pretty good though, maybe not Dream Theater but korn type music - nu metal.

I will always have a Universe, its the guitar to have,

  • used heaver gauge strings I can g,c,f,b,e,a,c and lower

  • Prijatelju..pa ti si nevidjeno glup.Ta gitara je za tebe kao za slepog lika savrseno zgodna i lepa zena, kao najbolja kola za invalida....aj skloni se odavde

  • ???

  • hey dude if you drop it down to ADGCFAD and drop the 7 string down a whole step your in drop g not d

  • you are right I think.

omg I have to take this shitty vid down, neither the playing or the sound is any good.

    thanx for commenting though.

  • took me a while to change the text, thanks for tipping me off. I must have been sleepy. Check out my new seventring acoustic!

  • When you tune down on your Ibanez, you adjust the springs in the back right? how do you know how much to adjust them? I can't figure it out, I fucked mine up bad and had to let a pro do it, but I wanna know how to do it myself...I have an Ibanez RG with an Edge III it is a cheap trem but its decent, I think the Universe has the Edge pro, so it's better than mine, wish i could afford it! anyway can you give me some tips on tuning down my ibanez edge III?

  • hey thanks for the question.

I cheat and use an object behind the anchor part inside the cavity so that I cant be pulled back (or the bridge up then) by the strings. I do this because I want the guitar to be freely tunable because I use so many tunings that the locking mechanisms are a hinder to me. If you want to detune WITH floyd use you probably have to give ut to a pro and upgrade to a thicker set of strings. its a pro job to me. good luck!

  • Ok thanks, I asked someone else and they said it is the spring tension in the back, that and getting thicker strings would probably do the trick! that object thing is a good idea for dive only modes, you can get a thing called a tremol-no that does it safely, did you ever hear of that product?

  • It will help but drastically changing the tuning like this (B standard to Drop D), it would not keep you from having to adjust the spring tension, not to mention you would need thicker strings.

  • the man is right!

  • Tone Mod for Triumph: Remove the thick mode EQ circuit. We know, right now it's muddy, and bass & mid pots do nothing. Not anymore.

Procedure: Simple. Cut the jumper located in-between R11 and C62. Now the EQ and tone of the clean is now the same for the crunch and ultra. All tones pots work on all channels. No more mud. Its a totally different sounding and performing amp now. Speaker is a Avatar's Hellatone.

Thought I'd share for those interested,

    Daveyrocket

  • Wanted to add:

R11 & C62 are located near the LOW tone pot. Only have to remove the chassis ( 4 screws) locate the jumper and cut. Put the chassis back in and fire her up.

Option: Add a toggle switch to the jumper's cut leads. This would allow you to have a "stock" mode and "enhanced EQ" mode selection.

FYI-2: Reference the board layout diagram, at the bottom section of the schematic.

If need a schematic, Peavey will email the schematic for free.

    Rock on.

    DaveyRocket

  • lol, near the beginning... It sounds like you are playing I Am Murloc.

  • well ok then, I might be doing that then but I have never heard that song. Maybe they also heard dream theater like I have. ANyway, I am going to replace this video because the playing sucks in places the sun doesn't shine.

  • D00d, you can't own an Ibanez Universe and suck at playing, that's just wrong.

  • I just have to get better then, but its the thought that counts!

  • nice vid. Is the first riff u played I am Murloc lol cause it sounded like it

  • thank v much. If I had to say I got that riff from somewhere it would be "the mirror" by dream theater off of awake which is the album that got me usin' 7str. Its just unoriginal jammin to show off a fucked up universe.

thanks for commenting dude. may james labrie be with you.

  • Hahaha, OK.. I believe you now : )

  • That isnt a universe!

  • what do you mean it isn't a universe? If you are talking about the paint its because it has been stripped and painted temporarily. It is originally a UV7 BK like the one Vai used for the love of god and Petrucci used in the video for Lie.

  • yep, ive got that exact same guitar youre on about but the guitar in the video looks more like a RG 7 string... where are the green inlay dots on the neck? it only says 'ibanez' doesnt say 'universe' on the headstock. The headstock also looks a bit too rounded, mine is much pointier!

  • I've painted over the stupid green dots with brown nail warnish, I also exchanged the green blaze2 humbucker with a black one and removed the rest. The well known norwegian guitarist Marius Mueller owned this guitar before me and he cut of the tip of the headstock so I made a new one (not well admittedly) and glued on.

And I believe that a RG NEVER came with the traditional neck socket that you can see on the guitar in this vid, they have the rounded heel.

    Convinced now?

  • i dropped my 6 string to an A...fun shit

  • you can drop a tremolo to anything if the springs are adjusted or added/deleted the right way

  • I think you are right but thats no easy task for an amateur. a lot of variables!

  • is drop a lower than b?

  • I think I actually wrote the wrong name on this 'cause I first dropped the E string to a D then I dropped the B string to the same interval and that would then also be a D! a D! I honestly dont remember other than that its as low as this 7str will go.

  • oh okay

  • do you know were you can get a tuner online that tunes in drop a? thats drop A!

  • my standard Korg tuners do that. Just take them out of guitar mode. You have to pick the string very carefully though, even if you have thick strings on. I have half a 011 set and half a 009 set on my universe. But you can NOT drop drop A with the tremolo floating. I have locked mine.

  • sweet dude that would look tight.... one of the most beautiful ibanez's ive ever seen. i cant tell but if u dont hav emg's in there, that should b something to put in and then it would be totally pimpin bro.

  • do they make 7 string emg's?? ive never used emgs so i dont really know

  • wtf emgs are you stupid you dont emgs in a universe

  • that would be a bit strange yes. its just the poor quality of the cellphone video that makes it look like emg's. It us in fact a Dimarzio Blaze 2 like a universe should have.

thanks for clearing that out. BTW I dont like emg's much,

  • nice guitar

  • thank you. this isn't the finished version. I am going to strip it down completely, get a proper picguard and a real paint job.

  • Might try a volume box,the omnisonic (cheap on ebay works) mated with an EQ stomp - through the effects loop, you can get the Triumph to significantly tighten the bottom end (will not get muddy). Done by running the amp volumes hot (post gains well above half) and adjusting the output with the volume box in effects loop and EQ to taste. You'll add power amp distortion to the sound and the Triumph really punch.

This assumes that the diode mod was already done.

    Hope this helps

    DaveyRocket

  • yeah, that was a good idea. this vid doesn't really show the sound of the amp since we are hearing it delayed through the hall, but still, I think you are right.

I have done the mod on one but havent really had the chance to hear if it helped.

I seem to recall that marshall have made a product that alows you to run your valve amp at full blast into in and connect your speaker on the other side in order to get the tube sound at lov levels. ebay!!!

    I have bought 4 triumphs for 400dollars.

  • you should play korn songs with this guitar

  • neva seen a universe all black, what model is it? make a modifications?

  • this is a really raped Universe UV7 BK from 89.

Its not a proper paint job, its just some black sprayed on the wood. I will get it done properly one time. I only play with one pickup so I'll have to get a picguard made as well. But the guitar in it self is still great and I love it.

This vid is just some crap jamming and I've come to the conclusion after watching it that it doesnt work.

    thanx for commenting

  • From 89? Impossible.

The Universe was introduced when Steve Vai's "Passion and Warfare" came out in 1990

They didn't start making the black universe till that time

  • you are probably right, then its 90.

now its just a sniff away from crap
