  • How is the color fidelity? I am severely colorblind and usually identify color codes on wires, resistors, ect. by snapping a shot with my phone and using the color picker tool in Paint Shop Pro. Unfortunately, it's hard to get enough area to sample and the flash is useless at close distances (too bright and too blue).

  • @RMoribayashi It's fairly good I guess, but you wouldn't want a microscope like this to take pictures of big things like through hole resistors.

  • yet, another great video. I have seen every single one of yours!

  • Technically speaking you could re-purpose a software to redirect your files, it might not be very efficient but if you REALLY need to save your files elsewhere you can use a software like febooti Automation Workshop to trigger whenever files are saved and move them somewhere else, or you could modify the software for that purpose, whichever seems easier! Thank you for the tutorials!

  • Have you attempted to use the microscope for inspecting decapped ICs and other components? It looks like it might be enough magnification, and clear enough to do it, but its hard to say without having seen it tried. Most optical scopes do 100x-500x (or even more), but I don't know where the edge of the usability is.

  • @cuilidh I'd love to look at some bare ICs, but I don't have any. The closest is the MEMS dies I showed in the video.

  • Does it work with Windows 7?

  • @TheLameBucket - He confirmed that at the beginning of the video.

  • Nice tool to check bud quality (puff puff any1?), but for technicians theres nothing like plain eye sight and a regular microscope with led light for inspection.

  • @Afrotechmods

Hi, I like the review, but it would help if you mention one feature that I find important for all kinds of microscopes: What is the working distance of the scope (distance to object)? The site for the product says "up to 300mm from the object" - could you please verify? It would be very helpful to know if I can use it while sticking the soldering iron and pincers under it, or is it good only for inspection because of too short distance from the board?

  • @tntodorov Unfortunately you can't just pick a distance and magnification then adjust the focus as you can with regular microscopes. There are fixed distances and magnifications where things are in focus. Some long distance examples are 5cm / 15x, 10cm / 10x, 15cm / 9x. When you factor in shallow depth of field as well I don't think I would use it for real time soldering.

  • Really nice I enjoy every of your videos

  • Thank you for reviewing this product I'm currently in the market for one and I'm sure your video will prove to be helpful. Plus I actually enjoy watching your vid's that's a major plus when it comes to these informative vid's because as I'm sure you know most are fairly boring.

  • Awesome! I want this for x-mas :D

  • I really am a true fan of your videos! You have really helped me dive deeper into my energy research. Thank you!

  • With Linux just use Cheese - it works with most webcams out of the box, and uses the full resolution of the camera inside. Only drawback is the button does not work at all, you need to press the space on the keyboard. Can take single shot, multi shot or video.

  • lmao the closeup of a leaf was a classic for me, it was so random...

  • Oh god that's what my skin looks like

  • I never want to see the Queen that close up ever again. Thank you.

  • you nail it man

  • Nice review, as usual. Thanks.

So, is this a COSview review, or a MIview review? The box at t=5:00 reads the latter, your video title names the former.

Also, setting aside cost considerations, are you able to make any comparison between this microscope and say, any of the Celestron microscopes?

  • @aerofart Cosview is the company, Miview is the model series. I've never used a Celestron so I dunno.

  • @Afrotechmods Thanks. That makes sense now . . .

  • I love your voice dude!

  • Playstation 3 motherboard?

  • @colinstu Hehe nice catch. PS2.

  • @Afrotechmods Heh, was close :P. I think I saw 2006 as a copyright date.. threw me off.

  • I'd like to buy such a microscope, but given that I only use Linux I'm wondering whether it's supported on Linux.

  • @mondalaci If you go to cosview.com it looks like they only support Windows and Mac OS X

  • @Afrotechmods Thanks for the info! I figured out in the meantime that many of the USB microscopes (if not all) implement the standard USB video class which is supported by Linux out of the box. Will do some more reading and buy a USB microscope eventually.

  • Nice!

  • Thanks for the heads up! Keep the new products comming...

  • If the image had a precision grid superimposed it would be very useful

  • @carabela125 You can do that in the software actually. It's a simple cross, or a circular crosshair with lots of little gradations. No annotated distances though unless you measure stuff manually.

  • that be cool.

  • Price will drop.. Then I will get 1 for $20. :)

  • that's awesome. Didn't know they'd go that cheap.

  • I would use this microscope to inspect small samples of bottled water at the highest magnification.

  • excellent review

  • So UM is Micrometers?

  • @MrSuednym No it's just the model number

  • That's a novel idea, taking the old optical model and moving to a less expensive digital format. Lots of other competitors who make similar devices, sold on Amazon and elsewhere.

  • Cool, are there any alternatives? Is this the best USB microscope?

  • @artifactingreality search on DX.

  • "and other kinds of ists"

i like your videos because they are quite informative, yet very fun, and i love your sense of humour

  • Nice review, thanks! You reminded me, that I need to buy microscope for smd work inspection.

  • Not bad indeed :)

  • I know someone who needs this to see his penis.

  • this is very nice one.

  • wow, i actually really like the pictures of the fabric and metal surfaces. really awesome and clear.

  • "Other kinds of 'ists" had me laughing :D

Looks like a really awesome microscope. Might need to pick one up!

  • :)
