My daughter absolutely loves this video! She's 17 months; we don't have ABC magnets, but she will take random fridge magnets and "copy" this video by saying "B E O D" or any other random combination of letters then shout "YAY!!!" and try to jump. Its too cute! She just loves watching Fireese videos :) Thanks!
I have a question but I hope it doesn't come off as offensive... I am simply puzzled by how quickly she has learned how to spell. Does sign language help them learn quicker? And if so, how?
@xxLythexx great question. I think it helps because they store that information in a different part of a brain vs oral language. She knew the ASL ABCs long before the written one. She was interested in spelling using her hand vs writing. It's fun for her so I think in that way it did help!
Yay! Finally, someone who is not anti-intellectual with their children. Most people I see don't even read to their kids, let alone do this. I'm studying a teaching degree, and I think this is fantastic :-) preparing the mind for learning... good work.
This is a great video! Your little girl is so smart and so cute :) What are you doing with her now? My little boy has been reading, writing, and doing math since 2. He's almost 4 and about to go to school but he is so much more advanced than other preschoolers now.
In the United States, and maybe other countries, they do not usually teach the alphabet to be pronounced like this, and I would love it if they did. My child is learning two languages right now and one language is with 36 letters in the alphabet, and it's helping him learn amazingly well and pronounce better when older.
GREAT CHILD! Also, the most important thing is to learn to be a well rounded individual first and foremost.
I am only 12, and already know I will do everything you did with my child. (Hopefully daughter, but a boy is fine too.) Thank you for the inspiration! How old was she when you started?
@ChickityChoice yes, it helped her vocabulary a lot. If you check out the other videos of her you will see that she is reading at a grade 3 level in Kindergarten.
LOL [Bat] "Where's the aah?" I love how she gets so excited xD Aw she made a word :D This is precious. Good work taking the time out to teach your kid :c Some parents just lay it all on the school system and wonder why things go wrong. Beautiful daughter too :3
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your videos! I started teaching my baby signs at 6 months and she learned about 5 or 6 different ones, but I wasn't consistent with it because I started showing her YBCR dvds. Seeing your daughter spell out words has convinced me to try both. Keep up the good work and I will continue to follow you and your child!
she is soo cute and smart how old is she now???? i love the way she get all exicted when she gets it right and starts jumping up and down!! i made a word a made a word sooo cute!!! u have a smart one on your hands!!!
@maddflower thanks! She is now 4 and a half and she definitely is a little smarty... but of course I'm her mommy and will always think she is a little smarty!
@SmartHandsCA lol of course you opinion may seem bias, but, she is very smart, and just as cute as a button. That is amazing what she can do at her age. I've always wanted to learn sign language. It wuld be great in the medicla field, for patients who are deaf, and have trouble communicating with the medical team.
this made me smile..she's so clever :) i'm studying speech pathology and i'm so used to seeing 2/3 year olds that aren't even speaking yet..she's way at the other end of the spectrum!! well done with the signing
my son is even amazing...one day when he was just 4 months old, he was weeping and wanted milk and i was just next to him doing the formula when i heard him uttering the word "bubbubububububiiiitzzzz" from then on i got worried and i had watch his feeding time!
@31MrAnderson You can start anytime really. I started with my kids when they were both 4 months old. If you look at my channel you will see a link to an article I wrote on how to sign with your baby. It's like teaching a child how to wave bye-bye. It's really easy!
You are doing a wonderful Job with that girl = ) Congrats!
How did you teach her at that young age the sound of the alphabets and how to read? does the sign language have something to do with this? I have a 3 and a 4 year old, but they have very very poor concentration and listening skills is there any tip to improve that?
Yes, sign language had a big part in this. I would sing and sign the ABCs then she would do it. I then would put the sounds to the hand shapes for the manual alphabet and then we'd play games when we were out or in a restaurant and needed to occupy time. For example, I'd hold up the letter C and she'd make the sound for C then I'd hold up A and then T and she'd sound all the letters out. Then I'd move them faster C-A-T and she'd sound them out. She loved this game!
Wow this is amazing! I thought of signing with my son but never put forth a great effort. I'm kind of bummed that I didn't. He's 18 months now... I guess it's never too late to start. He knows "more" and "all done" but that's all I ever really taught him. This is amazing. Is there a website where you can look at and learn basic signs?
@MissAshleyAsthenia it is never too late! It is especially helpful when they start talking and you aren't sure what they are saying, you can ask them the sign and then correct the way they say the word. I have a free online dictionary for you to use. Just click on the link in my channel or google My Smart Hands.

Have you considered selling your idea to schools? As a student at a University majoring in special education, I could see this being extremely helpful for my future students. @Candaceshae thanks for your comment. I actually lecture to teacher eduction programs on using sign language to promote literacy in our schools. I'm hoping to come out with some curriculum they could also use soon. Thanks for the motivation!

you dont see many kids these days using alphabet fridge magnets like this. my godkids has had at least 4 sets of alphabet fridge magnets, they just get pulled off the fridge and thrown on to the floor, lol. definately a technique i would love to try when i am older with my own kids :)
This is good video. And the child is having lots of fun. It's like a game for her. I bought those letters in Wal-mart for $1 and I plan to teach my 19 month son. Please help me learn how to do this!!!
I love your videos. :) They're a true inspiration. My fiancee and I just found out she's pregnant and as a result of your videos, I'll be teaching her to read. write, and sign early on in life. I hope you continue making videos and inspiring many others. :)
@CorruptedNight no not at all. My daughter loved playing spelling games, it is fun to her. I don't sit her down and quiz her or force her to do things. If it wasn't fun for her we wouldn't do it. Kids love to learn, they are so fascinated with picking up new things. Doesn't she seem to be having fun?!
im a little stressed out. my daughter is 2years and 4months. i try teaching her as much as i can. i work full time. she is not so advanced as your little daughter. all i wish is for my daughter to speak. she says words here and there but not as much as others her age do. should i worry? will she learn on her own time? how do i teach to to talk back and repsond to me or ask me something.?
@tinaro82 Have you asked her doctor about her verbal development? If her doctor is concerned he or she may recommend you have her assessed with a speech pathologist. It's something to look into.
@cocohot88 I started by teaching her the ASL (American Sign Language) alphabet. Then we would put sounds (the phonics) to the letters then I introduced the written letters and we would put together short words like C-A-T sounding them out as we went along.
Very, very impressive!

I love your videos. :) They're a true inspiration. My fiancee and I just found out she's pregnant and as a result of your videos, I'll be teaching her to read. write, and sign early on in life. I hope you continue making videos and inspiring many others. :)

CorruptedNight 1 year ago

It's something to look into.

i hav a daughter and i really need to noe how u train her...
cocohot88 1 year ago
@cocohot88 I started by teaching her the ASL (American Sign Language) alphabet. Then we would put sounds (the phonics) to the letters then I introduced the written letters and we would put together short words like C-A-T sounding them out as we went along.
