Love John's quote at 2:30, "Look mom, if I'm supposed to be this great military leader, maybe you should start listening to my leadership ideas once in a while!" the kind of power fantasy I had when I was that age! YOU listen to ME mum! Do as you're told, because I say so!
With out this clip the scenes where the Terminator goes from rigid rule follower to Learning Computer dont make sense. I remember watching it as a kid and seeing the scene then rewatching the film recently and thinking I imagined the switch reset scene. I know some of you film buffs who disagree with me will point to sub par acting etc but I honestly think the acting and script are fine. And it helps the viewer make sense of why Arnie becomes more human later in the film. just my opinion ^^
So let's take a killing machine that was originally created to kill us, and isn't doing that right now only because it was hijacked and brainwashed, and let's give it the ability to exercise free will. Sound good?
i can understand why they didn't use this scene in the film. Something doesn't feel quite right about it. I dunno if its the way the terminator looks so vunerable or the acting was a bit sub par in the scene. Sarah also does that thing where she is about to destroy something in this case the chip later in the movie with miles dyson later then decides not to do it.
Did you know that to film the mirror in the scene they used Linda Hamiltons twin sister on the other side of the wall as using a real mirror would show the camera crew.
Guarantee there is a reason why that light fixture is oscillating in the background. Directors have a reason for everything that goes on in a film. I'm trying to figure it out, but I got nothing. Any thoughts?
@willrap4f00d I think it represents Sarah's inner conflict; her struggling with her apprehension of dealing with ANOTHER T-800 and the realization that John may be right: That they do need him, if for no other reason that he is an efficient killing machine at their disposal. Notice the way the light flickers across her face as she argues with John. From light to shadow.
@ricmetalster Most of that space is filled up by the shock damping assembly. You wouldn't want a being like the Terminator suffering a system reboot in the middle of combat because its chip got jogged.
I suspect this scene was cut because of the mis-read dialogue. He says, "SkyNet presets the switch to read --only when we are sent out alone. The script intended "SkyNet presets the switch to 'read-only' ( as opposed to 'read & write.')when we are sent out alone." As it is, that line is awkward and nonsensical. It's like he's interrupting himself to add "only when we are sent out alone, even though "read-only is written in the script as a hyphenated term.
This is my second favorite scene out of this film. I wish they would have left it in but for the length of the film, it had to be cut. My favorite scene is the dream sequence with Michael Biehn as Kyle Reese.
arnie asks if there was a problem because of the time that took place between his chip being removed and the the same chip being put back in again, because as you can see when he starts running again you can see that the computer reads "discontinuity chrono 00:01:something", he realizes it took a while for them to put the cpu back in....
Is there a cut of Terminator 2 on DVD that contains EVERY scene edited out of the version shown in theaters (Sarah's dream, her being beaten by the guards, the CPU reset, Miles working at home, the alternative ending, etc.)?
how dare sarah try to do that after he saved John from the T-1000 2 times(in the arcade and being run down by a truck) and got her out of the nut house, did he try and smash her brains ? no
Because she's an ungrateful mental case who cannot seem to grasp that this terminator isn't evil or out to get her like the first one. She doesn't even seem to process the fact that they aren't even the same unit, even if they look the same.
I guess the fact that oh, her mother, best friend, her boyfriend, three other bitches named Sarah, a precinct FULL of cops, and, oh yeah, THE MAN SHE LOVED got whacked by this dude's "brother" should'nt keep her from feeling just a little bit "uneasy" about having her only child palling around with another machine that looks just like him. How dare she feel angry and protective just because everyone she loved got murdered and her whole life erased? How dare she!

I hope Linda Hamilton and Edward Furlong really bonded while doing this film, as they played mother and son.

that's a pretty large empty space for a sophisticated robot. laptop have'nt got an inch of empty space, you would expect a syborg to be even worse

Remember the T-800 which Arnold plays is from almost 10-12 years from now, and at the time of this movie almost 20-22 years from then.

Also, the circuit board the CPU plugs into is below that, and the rest of the stuff could be in the back of head.

Good point. Also in T3 it showed how the T-800 can be compromised and turn against John. Even though T3 sucked.

In Terminator 3, Arnold played a T-850, generally the same model, etc. I guess it's supposed to have "better" programming.

it was to so we could see the terminator learn and show how it could learn to hold a value for human life.
sarah xplains this when arni is playn with john while fixing the truck
also at the end of the film the very last words are if a terminator can value human life mabey we can to.
:D
