It still chokes me up each time I see this. Interestingly I actually saw this on TV back in 1990. When I see this I feel like I am back at my old house in 1990, and I'm happy seeing Ringo Starr as Mr. Conductor and Thomas, and well It reminds me how much I love Christmas, Santa, Mother, Mom-Mom, and well Thomas the Tank Engine. This is probably my Number 1 Christmas scene. All things were magical and anything is possible. In fact I am crying right now, for I still love this 21 years later.
I mean we have shows about practically everything why not shows like this anymore. is hope really that taboo? I am supposed to believe that hope is more taboo that knowing who slept with who on the Jersey's Shore. . What do kids have to hope for now? "Oh kids one day you to can be cheated or do the cheating and be called name". In closing I say the problem with kids today is there is no magic no hope nothing. We need to give hope to our children.
Heck I don't eve remember the last time I saw Christmas special that wasn't either trying to kill Santa Clause or having him dying (American Dad and Family Guy I am looking at you). I have nothing against these shows mind you they are great for what they are. They are parodies of modern life and they are hilarious. All I am asking that we have shows like this to balance things out.
You know what astounds me? The fact that all these people sitting around discussing why kids are so mean and dark today haven't figured out why. You want to know why? Because there aren't shows like this anymore. Think about it when was last time you saw Shining Time Station o?. No I don't mean that filler Thomas the Tank. I am talking about Shining Time Station. Ya I can't remember either.
At 26 I still Remember this show and This is reason why I love trains. Thank you Shinning time Station and to Thomas the Tank Engine. I am in tears right now I want to go back to when i was 6
I am 21 years old and when I watch this it brings me back to the early 90's where my mom and dad would watch this with me, and things where simpler. My dad is going through a lot of medical stuff now and watching this makes me wish instead of me having to take care of him I could go back to a time where he took care of me with no medical problems. I hope when I have a kid when Christmas comes around I can sit down with him or her and watch this in hopes it in packs them as it does me
Good, clean children's shows. It makes my heart ache to think kids dont get to grow up the way we did with this show, mighty morphin power rangers, Sesame street, cat paws, exc...
@van8ryan It's called "Scare Dares." And it was the first episode of the second season, the first time George Carlin played Mr. Conductor after Ringo Starr left the show, and Harry Cupper is replaced by Billy Twofeathers, who is also a locomotive engineer and mechanic.
I'm thinking the third kid, "Becky" was actually supposed to be the same character, they just had Miner replaced with a similar looking and sounding actress and altered her name for some reason. That's just a theory I have, I'm not really sure about it. If you disagree, I don't mind.
I loved this show when I was a kid, The theme song brings me to tears now when I think of the times when I was a child and anything really did seem possible. Now as a college student with so much stress and worry, it was nice to take the time to remember when my imagination was all that mattered. I really needed this, thank you :)
Lloyd Bridges on Shining Time Station....hard to believe I never saw this. Amazing how much talent this show gathered....Ringo Starr.....the late great George Carlin..........this was an awesome show!
Schemer had ever spoiled Vicki was an nonsenical dress as Santa helper, and even Nicholas in sercet he's Saint Nicholas, made her happy is to believe in Joyful Givings!
I think the song is properly titled Simple Gifts; John Williams wrote a variation of it for Barack Obama's inauguration. I remember watching the ceremony and thinking 'damn, where have I heard this song before.' And then I flashed back to Shining Time Station.
@Jahampt Absloutely. They should find the old Shining Time Stations and re release them! Especially this one, especially so that a new generation can appreciate this classic.
When our son was three years old, Shining Time Station with Thomas the Tank Engine episodes was his absolute FAVORITE program! We saw this particular episode that Christmas time - and ever since whenever I hear the song "Tis A Gift" I am immediately brought back to that very special time for our Family. Thanks you for putting this here so we can watch it. Itis magnificent. BTW - my son is now a 19 year old college student. How the time flies!
When I was like 8 years old, my parents loved Vicky's song that they made me sing it in front of my relatives during that Christmas, and I didn't want to.
LOL "Ho ho ho, oh little girl, how can I help you? Oh, so you'd like a doll that makes you bed, brushes your teeth, and eats your vegetables? Hey, so do I! Oho ho ho, ho ho ho!"
I think it's the best part of the entire special. I just finished watching the whole thing and thought it was worth watching it just to see this part.
nickdreyer7890, they made Ringo Starr small when he played Mr. Conductor with computer effects on a green screen then shrunk him on the computer. I think, so that answers your question.
@nickdreyer7890 Forced perspective. Ringo's scenes are filmed separately and he stands about 50 feet away from the camera, then, the other characters' footage is shot where they have to pretend they're speaking to Mr. Conductor, then Ringo's footage is inserted. Maybe Ringo stands off camera and reads his lines to help the actors?
