Why do people assume the guy talking in the video is White? He never mentions his colour of skin. I am Canadian and I was stopped and asked for identification etc in AZ. I had lost my passport and they were ready to deport me. Driving in a crazy desert at night wasn't my favourite thing to be doing without proper identification. I am White and the cop was Mexican American I assume. It goes both ways...
Just curious, how far is it from San Diego to the Mexican border. Probably a stupid question but I'm from Australia and I'm just curious. Also, how far is the Mexican border from LA? Thanks : )
Oh my gosh! the new mexico license plate at the end was from my town!!! did you see "Aggies" on it? yep thats the NMSU Aggies. i feel proud my town actually got randomly/ weirdly recognized:)
they were friendly cause u ain't mexican, i've constantly been harrassed cause i'm a mexican-american and constantly have had to show papers just to prove i was born in the US
"maybe one day i'll do the whole trail" uh.. joe.. may take longer than a day... i think i would feel a loss of freedom if border patrol stopped me all the time to know who i was and where i was going
terrorist inffilltrate our land all the time and the mexican border is just 1% of the problem, the cubans have miami, the chineese have canada the the rest have corrupt Homland sec. on their side. mexico is just too keep us distracted so we think dats the only problem, but i know theres more to it. protect our country not the mexican border.
Better keep them at our borders than overseas. I'm not worried about terrorists so much, but I am worried about illegals and those that would drain our economy with welfare programs and health care just because they were told by the govt that it is "free".
If you want more of the official interrogation experience try being a bicycle messenger. I was accustomed to being questioned by security people several times a day because I had to enter numerous 'secure' locations, namely, office buildings, every day. Each building has different rules and I had to abide by them, more or less ;-)
In many instances I believe that they DID NOT make their building more secure. I do not get as nervous when questioned by authorities than before that job.
Yeah....it's always nerve wracking being asked a bunch of questions by a stranger. It's even more so when you've traveled over seas. In the back of your mind you're thinking, "this dude could send me back home..." I've experienced that in Britain, Greece and Turkey.
... every country should exercise this restraint, there are only so many resources to go around.
i do sympathize with people seeking political asylum because it is our duty to defend anyone in danger, within reason, but for someone to come here illegally because they want to take a job from a citizen and then send the money back home undermines the democracy.
i dunno , but witthin all the shit you are part of as a person, you are also ppl under the sun and made of this planet and ought to be free to roam itt at will. elsewise you are allways restrained by relationship by nations and or deliberately drawn borders.
It's amazing that you think it's the immigrants "taking" the jobs when the jobs are handed out by the employers. Why not sue the employers who actually have money and are breaking the law for profit rather than persecuting the poor who break the law to survive. All the major religions accommodate stealing to feed your family, none of them advocate tax fraud. Give unto Cesar that which is Cesar's and all that.
Now i could be wrong but i could have sworn i witnessed people crossing with a temp work visa, and the locals i spoke to told me, you had to be back by a certain time or your permission would be revoked, thereby rendering the temp visa invalid.
I was also taken aback by how easily it was to cross into the Us at the San Ysidro checkpoint. Sometimes they wouldn't even ask for ID, they would go on instinct and let you pass if you "looked" American.
One thing i found odd was that when i was in the Navy, we would cross into Tijuana with no problem, they let anyone in, but on the way back you had to prove your citizenship in some form.
I digress, it wasn't how easily you could leave the country or the experience of re-entering, that gave me pause, it was that residents of Mexico somehow had permission to enter on a sort of day pass, to work in the Us, i don't know if anyone is aware of this....
This video is pretty scary to watch as someone who's never seen or experienced tyranny first hand. A walled off border, government agents asking you where you have been and where you are going. Reminds me of stories from DDR and CCCP.
I'm glad I live in a free country.
What happens if you don't stop to talk to them? What happens if you don't want to talk to them? What happens if you talk a language they don't understand? What happens if you ask them where they have been?
yeah, that would be awesome to walk, but im guessing you should probably want to start at the north end and work you way down, and start in the summer, cuz if you start south and mistime that, that could be one friggen cold walk, lol, winters are pretty unpredictable lately, in wisco, this yr it pushing dec and we are just getting threats of snow, 2 yrs ago, there was snow on the ground at halloween, ech, i hate this state, lol
Me, as an American who has lived most of his life in Mexico, exactly on Juárez, the most dangerous city in the world, I have to say, that the wall between Mexico and USA is just a plain and stupid insult. Do they really think that a wall is going to stop illegal immigrants?
America is a big ass family, we need to help out each other, not outcast each other.
PS. Mexico is great, I love this country and their people, you just need to look or be 18 to party.
Every time i see that wall, i just laugh at how ridiculous it is. I mean cmon, ITS A WALL.
Also, don´t forget that before the Treaty of Guadalupe (1865?) Mexico went as far north as Oregon and as far East as Texas. They didn´t cross the border, the border crossed them.
you know its funny seeing a wall that divides two areas.... can anyone say the Berlin wall??? well enough said..... when will we bring the wall down???
My question would be closer to: when can we make it higher? The thing is a joke. You can jump right over it. Its not splitting a country in two, its separating two sovereign powers. The principle is very different.
There is a flood of immigrants coming through illegally. I understand how difficult it is to get U.S. citizenship, but it still seems wrong to me when other people have to work so hard to get it.
One further thing. The Mexican gangs have more armed men than the Mexican army.
yeah!! thats why they want to come here to make there lives better and send money back to help the rest of there family.. plus what does the US do the help over there nothing.... they just spend money on wars outside the Americas... what will happen if the zetas (name of mexican gang cartel) take over? why doesnt the US see that if this happens what can go wrong with the US... next Mexican American war?? oh boy i hate politics LOL
I don't think it's tyrannical to control one's own borders. When someone owns a house, they have a door to prevent everyone and anyone from entering, i see a fence as that concept on a National scale.
If i let anyone into my dwelling, they would be using my electricity, eating my food, doing all manner of things and i simply could not sustain the influx eventually. I'm not a xenophobe but i feel discretion should be utilized with regards to who we invite to this country...
it's sad that they have to ask question like that, as you shouldn't have to answer them. but i also know why they do that. to protect their land is still something that yes they should be proud of i know it must not be the easiest job there is as so many people would hate you for what you do sadly. as much as i wish this wasn't need that there was ways of dealing with it better i think that will be far after my time here.
The fact that we have a wall sepperating our country from another one to stop immigrants from flooding in is really disgusting to me. We're a country founded by immigrants and yet now, a few hundred years down the road, we've chosen to outcast the mexican people jus because they want to live in our country and lead better lives. If only the native americans had built giant concrete walls along the east coast and florida.
I understand that perspective but it truly is a gross oversimplification. I mean, even you must understand Native Americans didn't attempt to maintain financially viable welfare systems for any and all immigrants irregardless of volume, right? Just that one facet alone means you need to regulate the flow of immigration. It's not really fair to compare the affairs of a developed nation to an era of nomadic settlement.
...Joe, you may not want to live in a state where you are questioned about your whereabouts,...but why aren't you concerned you may one day live in a COUNTRY where you have to answer questions about your health to a government employee. They , too, will judge the validity of your story.
It's interesting how some facets of globalization are being embraced, while others, like unskilled labor migration, are being obstructed. You can't have your cake and blabla
It's sad that we (and when i say "we" I mean Americans) complain and complain about how there are too many mexicans that are illegally coming into america when the walls we built are just asking for them to jump right over and enjoy there stay.
Put a Jar of money into a steel box but leave a hole big enough to fit my hand in it and i'll clean that jar out.
Great video joe. Thanks again for checking out our vids:) stay in touch:)
Just curious, but technically, you don't HAVE to tell them (the cops) anything, at least according to the ACLU's PSAs....so what would happen if you didn't?
I assume that's true, and I thought about it, but it could easily turn a one minute conversation into a much longer ordeal, where I pull over and get out and they bring in the dogs etc. And when they let me go, what have I gained from that? It's not a secret that I'm going to San Diego, so I tell the guy. But needing some dude's permission, with or without the conversation, raises my hackles.
FUCK WETBACKS you should plant some land minds on the trail

People need to realize its not just to keep the "bad mexicans" out . But also to keep all Americans in. It just becomes one massive state prison.
