Do it with your left hand (instead of the right hand and then switching hands to hold the rod with your left), then gimme a call. lol, just kidding bud, i can't do it with accuracy either. But in all seriousness, when you're flippin/pitchin cover this shallow, by the time you have switched to your left hand, you could be missing bites or your jig is already on the bottom. SO like you mentioned a 1/4oz jig really helps with slowing the fall if you have to switch hands, plus it skips way easier
@mackles If your still haven't master your thumb control, don't try it. lmao! Make sure you are pretty advance in casting with the Baitcasting reel before doing this.
@tacticalbassin thats what i thought because he was jig fishing with it but ive seen rods designed for skipping that were lighter powered. anyways thanks for the reply
I tried this a while ago and was fairly successful, but then I tried it with a senko worm. It is much more difficult since the shape of the lure forces it to dive down rather than skipping across. but once I practiced with a worm, I tried it with a Jig and nailed it 85% of the time. I think practicing with a difficult lure helps learn the proper way much quicker. All I can say to people who want to learn, is Practice! Practice! Practice!
@FerstlerSlim probably no more than anyone else...it isnt like his hands come off the rod...one hand is always on the rod..if he has a good rod and line..he will still feel it
According to Tim he turns them way, way down. What he was saying in the video is that the worst mistake you can make is to turn your cast control (brakes, magnets, control knob) tigher.
Keeping them tight results in you casting harder and increasing the risk of backlash. Turn them down, nearly to freespool, and give it a try.
@OutdoorAdventures77 I'm not sure you read my reply correctly. It seems that you and I agree. I recommended loosing the controls and controlling the spool with your thumb instead.
@tacticalbassin Actually, he is not talking about the magnets, nor the dip switches but the actual cast control knob. I have had the pleasure of talking with several professional anglers about skipping jigs. They all run their reels VERY loose. Backing out the tension knob is far more important than backing off the magnetic brakes. If you are running them on 10 then you are probably not ready for this technique anyway.

if you watch closely he skips from every angle sidearm, backhand and underhand. Having all those down you can be very effective on the water.

I FINALLY mastered the skip it helps so much getting under docks, trees, and under pontoon boats.. Great skill to have!

@tacticalbassin Actually it isnt. Once you are an experienced fisherman you can cast like that controling the spool with your thumb.
