@meade916 He's right though. On bassy tracks (e.g. Ludacris - How Low) if i low pass at 80hz, the signal is only 0.5-1dB down compared to the input (fullpass), and the input is hitting 0dB (digital clipping).

Turn up any boosts/EQ (e.g. remote sub level) when setting gains, then afterwards bring any gains down as necessary to achieve the tonality you are after - that way it's impossible to clip anything -isn't that the point of using the DD1?

What should you set the test tones at if you just have a daily setup? If it says it in the manual my bad I just dont have one yet. But would the average person want to set it at 0, -5, -10, or -15db?

40hz -10dB? That's gonna cause a lot of unintended clipping considering a lot of bass lines in songs are quite a bit louder than that. For example, "Thug Motivation 101" is around -6dB, and some decaf stuff is even -3dB or louder. -5dB is the lowest you should go, IMO.

The point of setting your gain with the DD-1 is to prevent clipping in the first place, but if you use a quiet test tone to set your gains with you are introducing possible clipping into the mix. It's the same concept as setting your gain with your headunit volume turned down, or your bass knob not at its highest setting.
