Hanging out on the piers/gangways/whatever they're called does not seem smart. If a boat owner really wanted to protect their boat, the best way to do it would have been to take their boat far out to sea ahead of time. Marinas are the most vulnerable to tsunami, just the shift in current with no significant wave height is enough to do serious damage, and -- no demeanment to the ground zero damage victims in Japan -- several U.S. coastal areas are bonafide disaster areas from this tsunami
It's a good thing that it was super low tide when it hit... Could have been much worse if there was more water to tear things up. Still about 60 people who lived on their boats are homeless now. Crazy!
YouTube never fails, as a site where you can be sure to find an ample supply of wee pups that what to shoot their poorly educated mouths off about something they know nothing about. And nothing could be hilarious.
It is incredible to read how many people are so desparate to get attention that they use this crisis to vomit their trash all over these postings on youtube. Please stop using this site to spout how arrogant, stupid and insensitive you can be.
I'm grateful everyone's okay, and thank god we're not in Japan. And for those speaking far too confidently about matters they have no clue about, good luck, you got it all wrong.
... let’s see what else, while physically witnessing this the water level would raise and fall 3+ feet between surges...
now break that down, take a water glass and vertically plunging it into a tub of water. Quickly it will fill. Now pull the cup out (vertically still) again a surge of water. Now we can all imagine what there would do in a confined space and at a much higher degree. It would likely destroy a harbor and thrash around its boats, right?
I live two blocks from the harbor. I think it should be noted that locals didn't ask the media to come here and make a drama of people's destroyed property. By all means not all of the owners are rich. This is Santa Cruz, a number of these boats are actually occupied as people’s homes. Not bc of economic blah blah, but bc people chose to. As well most insurances are not covering this, being it’s a "national disaster" there for they have to submit to FEMA
It's just... it's so horrific, watching all these innocent boats suddenly without homes. The boats' infrastructure will be devastated for years to come. I hear that hundreds of boats still don't even know what happened to their families. My prayers are with them.
I heard one lady on tv saying that this was a disaster and she can't speak to the news reporter or watch the boats in the bay and she started crying. I was like how can she say that the boats smashing into eachother in california was a disaster?? have she seen japan???
Obviously some of you guys are not boaters. You never put your body in between two boats or a boat and a dock when the boat is that big. I have a 30ft cabin cruiser and it will crush you if you try. Those boats are at least 35ft and weigh 15,000 lbs. Moving like they are you wont even slow them down. And if you dont have the keys your not dropping those anchors. They're motorized.
And no they were not able to go down and tie them back on after the lines broke loose. So many cops and harbor patrol were blocking off people from getting onto the docks
You guys who are saying "oh those people are dumb, their boats weren't tied down" You are fucking retarded. I watched lines break loose and boats get carried off, all the boats were tied down you idiots. and docks actually got torn apart which was one of the reason boats floated away or got ruined. I was there at the harbor all day, i know tons of people who have boats down there and live on them and they got completely destroyed. That was there life, there home.
I Got a question ????? If someone were to get on that boat. Would that boat become theirs. Would maritime law come into play. Would that be a salvage sorta thing. Just wondering
I need someone to get a message out to people working on those reactors. Do not pour hot water on something that hot. It will crack almost every single time. You know, all the Californian liberals are probably pretty excited at the tsunami wanting any excuse to hold out their hand and file as many money-grubbing claims for "financial assistance". I'm sure they are begging for the governor to declare a state of emergency and disaster area so they can pocket Fed money they can spend in a matter of days like they do their own public's.
Spoken by a true landlubber. I was raised on a 113 ft subchaser in sf and tell me, would he have held on to that line? anything he would of tied it off to would of been ripped out, even the piling. and he would of not been able to hold on. That is a 20000 lb boat going at 10 15 knots. you do the math. oh 1 more thing. you're an ass. so shut the fuck up.

And of course, more intelligent people going out to see the tsunami damage. How about someone actually tells the truth...it's not over!!!! It'll last at least another four hours. Someone in Crescent City already died because they went out to see it. When they say, stay away from the water, it's not an invitation to go down to the water.
I hate americans, g'damn cowards. ANY one of these idiot boat owners could have gotten a damn rope and secured those boats EASILY at NO RISK and saved thousands in damage and the possible sinking of some boats....no american stepped up to the plate; they were ALLl found wanting.
@rmauk Ahem, the generation that may have participated in THAT conflict is now in retirement homes, not on the banks of a small tributary staring like a bunch of retards at boats washing by, damaging homes and vehicles wondering what they can do. THAT generation knew what a Boy / Girl Scout was and the proper application and use of a damn ROPE! You don't need to be a cowboy to know how to tie a bowline and attach it to a dock and the other end to a boat moving at perhaps 10 km/hr.
@PsychoticusRex dude, chill. what do you want them to do, jump on the boat as its being pulled out? It's just physical damage....at least no one was hurt. hundreds of people are dead in Japan....we should be thankful the most we experienced was a few boats banging into each other.
@byonicbeats I should be sanguine about a demonstrative example of American moral inferiority? Your limited grasp of physics and marine lore is exemplified by your lack of demonstrated knowledge of the proper application and use of a ROPE. ANY other country in the world, the denizens would have put the question to themselves "Gosh something bad is happening, what can I do to help?". Every single Yankee at that event, plus the video-grapher thought, "Cool YouTube Moment". I call Narcissism.
@PsychoticusRex I bet if they tied a rope around that boat they probably would get pulled down with it and drowned. To save something that insurance will cover? Call me a coward, but I wouldn't risk my life so that somebody's boat wouldn't get beat up. And if you can't tell, it's obvious that nobody's on those boats. Not worth the risk..and you could be charged with trespassing if you boarded that boat.
@PsychoticusRex I HOPE YOU DIE THE SLOWEST PLAINFUL DEATH A HUMAN BEING HAS NEVER FACED YET. I HOPE WHILE YOUR DIEING EVERYONE IS LAUGHING. MAY YOUR HEART BE BLESSED TO THE WICKY EVIL OF THE WORLD
@jeffrywg Ok, project much? Is Wiky Evil like Wiki-evil, a search engine based encyclopedia of ponerology? A charming, and I might say TELLING, sentiment from the global leader in moral education, the Yankees. You must be either a TeaBagger or a Republican since your humour, or self gratification, appears to derive from thoughts of death and suffering. Typical.
@PsychoticusRex let's put YOU in the same situation and see YOU try to do that while a tsunami current is coming across the bay. Real cowards are people who say stuff but dont do anything. and dont call Americans stupid. You're embarressing urself by posting a stupid comment. so please shut off ur computer and leave. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
@BryanRiel I've BEEN in a similar situation, Tsunami/Flood with boats ripping free of moorings no fault of the owners. Little zodiac, a bit of rope, no damage done but for the need to reset mooring points, the public dock was a bit full after but hardly an inconvenience compared to dozens of boats being damaged or sunk. Oh yes, watching a video on YouTube AFTER THE FACT I'm supposed to jump in my handy Delorian, jump back before, so I can be ready with a rope; miss the point much? fool yankee
@PsychoticusRex Just because you've BEEN in a SIMILAR SITUATION doesn't mean that it's the same situation. What if you didn't see the tsunami coming? And it took a a MONTH to come up with that stupid comment? PATHETIC! And again with the calling Americans stupid? Which country killed Osama Bin Laden huh? And why won't you listen to EVERYONE else on this video, do yourself a favor and shut up.
@BryanRiel I'll explain this slowly so even a gullible religious f'tard like yourself can understand. MOST people on earth live lives NOT defined by the approval of the YouTube Community, if it took me a month to respond it's because YOU are not important enough to require the 20 seconds it takes to respond earlier. It's you, not me. My comment was directed at the response of people TO the situation, none being of a civic mind, an indictment of your society, you suck, get over it.Bin Laden?HA!
@BryanRiel Which god? If it's Cthulhu; who thinks Americans who worship random Mexicans named Jesus (pronounced: Hey! ZEUS!) taste like chicken, I would admit to feeling sympathetic. But on a more serious note, you Yankees are a fairly sheltered lot aren't ya? One little comment on an insignificant YouTube video and your fit to be tied. Nice perspective.
@PsychoticusRex Ok. Fine. You win. You hate America and that's that. Took me a bit to realize that there are millions of ppl in this world that think the same. Now, I would like to end this argument and move on. Sorry for wasting your time... and mine LOL!
Tsunami (tsnä`mē), series of catastrophic ocean waves generated by submarine movements, which may be caused by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions ect. Tsunamis may have wavelengths of up to several hundred miles and travel at speeds up to 500 mi per hr (800 km per hr), yet have wave heights of less than 3 ft (1 m). Do the math you fucking idiot. & why are you talking shit on a country that's saved your ass countless times.
@igotboomy while i don't hate americans i do have to agree with my country men on this point and by the way when did you save our ass..countless times?
@igotboomy Way to hide behind your "Greatest Generation"s skirts cowardly Yankee. From THE country that gave us "Math is hard" (barbie) one perhaps would be advised not to cast to many stones from yonder glass house. The boats in question were moving at MAYBE 14 km/hr past the dock, ahem, for the nautically disinclined, that's the normal DOCKING SPEED for someone who's competent to operate a marine vehicle! Appropriate application of ropes and there wouldn't have been a "YouTube moment".
I think you will be pleased to know that I agree with you. Those rich bastards totally deserved to have their boats washed away. Why didn't they tie them down themselves? Cuz they're idiots. I mean look in the beginning at all the people just standing there watching like retards. Why don't they get down there and do some damage control (cuz they're stupid....and ya, cowards.)
@Dasunddaseinzig Why should people standing around do something? What if they don't even have boats there? What if they are by-standers, that are happy to watch Richy Rich's boat swim with the fishes?
i wanna see you trying to hold back a 10 ton boat against those currents. why cant you? (cuz you're retarded for thinking anyone can... and yeah, a coward).
@Dasunddaseinzig Thank you. Do the rich deserve to have all their crap taken away in the most galling way possible, yes I agree. The POINT of the post that others seem to have missed are that the people involved in this video demonstrated none of the vaunted civic-mindedness that comes from people who see themselves as a part of a larger community. None of the SCOUT ethic, more along the lines of the ADOLECENT ethic. That was the indictment, not success, but the ATTEMPT to fix was not made.
@PsychoticusRex did you just insult a whole country, 350 million plus people because someone didnt risk their life for an out of control boat??? you are a freakin idiot... in fact I feel kinda stupid for aknowledging your idiotic comment.. I guess i just could resist telling you that your mother wishes she had gotten an abortion...
@dangermous1968 I insult a whole country, because this behaviour is endemic and indicative of many moral failings and personal short comings. Ah, since i don't fawn over our American lords and masters i must be from a broken family. Way to conform to the stereotype.
@PsychoticusRex I ask you ...How many times have YOU found yourself in the possition to jump on a moving boat and stop it from floating out of control? what.... NONE? then maybe you should stfu and stop judging a whole country for something u have obsolutely no experience in...
maybe u should stop watching movies that show the actors jumping onto a moving boat or a moving train and saving the day ....and assuming that it is the same in real life...how about it?
@PsychoticusRex dude.. im canadian and dont like americans that much but wtf on earth where they suposed to do and if they jumped in the boats thed just get swept away so you need to stfu and stop calling them cowards when you would have sat there pickin your fuckng nuts
At least it was just a boat that got damaged! Compared to Japan where many people were injured and many died! I don't care about a few boats compared to that!
@PsychoticusRex Oh yes... let me just jump into a raging current to save someone's boat.. The average mid-size boat weighs about 2,630 Kg.. Moving at about 40 kph- which is about how fast they were moving.. Would require a 14,866 Kg force to stop it.. That would mean an empty semi-truck would have to be in that path to stop it- so please, unless you weigh as much as a semi-truck- Shut the fuck up..
Thank you for posting this. I am a native of the central coast now living in Colorado and have been wondering how my beloved Monterey Bay has fared through the tsunami warning.
Would have been nice if some of these guys on the docks made more of an effort to stop the boat with ropes or whatever every time it came to a stop so it would'nt continue crashing into things causing more and more damage.
Would have been nice if some of these guys on the docks made more of an effort to stop the boat with ropes or whatever every time it came to a stop so it would continue crashing into things causing more and more damage.
@lisalrocks lol...then they be dragged to sea as well...you think one human being can stop an ocean current from pulling a 2 ton boat to shore?? Lol If they can get him a blue suit with a red cap and an S on his chest, we wil call him superman

PsychoticusRex 10 months ago
@PsychoticusRex dude, chill. what do you want them to do, jump on the boat as its being pulled out? It's just physical damage....at least no one was hurt. hundreds of people are dead in Japan....we should be thankful the most we experienced was a few boats banging into each other.
byonicbeats 1 year ago 16
@byonicbeats I should be sanguine about a demonstrative example of American moral inferiority? Your limited grasp of physics and marine lore is exemplified by your lack of demonstrated knowledge of the proper application and use of a ROPE. ANY other country in the world, the denizens would have put the question to themselves "Gosh something bad is happening, what can I do to help?". Every single Yankee at that event, plus the video-grapher thought, "Cool YouTube Moment". I call Narcissism.
PsychoticusRex 10 months ago
@PsychoticusRex I bet if they tied a rope around that boat they probably would get pulled down with it and drowned. To save something that insurance will cover? Call me a coward, but I wouldn't risk my life so that somebody's boat wouldn't get beat up. And if you can't tell, it's obvious that nobody's on those boats. Not worth the risk..and you could be charged with trespassing if you boarded that boat.

Typical.

kbz1231 1 year ago
@PsychoticusRex let's put YOU in the same situation and see YOU try to do that while a tsunami current is coming across the bay. Real cowards are people who say stuff but dont do anything. and dont call Americans stupid. You're embarressing urself by posting a stupid comment. so please shut off ur computer and leave. GOD BLESS AMERICA!
BryanRiel 1 year ago
@BryanRiel I've BEEN in a similar situation, Tsunami/Flood with boats ripping free of moorings no fault of the owners. Little zodiac, a bit of rope, no damage done but for the need to reset mooring points, the public dock was a bit full after but hardly an inconvenience compared to dozens of boats being damaged or sunk. Oh yes, watching a video on YouTube AFTER THE FACT I'm supposed to jump in my handy Delorian, jump back before, so I can be ready with a rope; miss the point much? fool yankee
PsychoticusRex 10 months ago
@PsychoticusRex Just because you've BEEN in a SIMILAR SITUATION doesn't mean that it's the same situation. What if you didn't see the tsunami coming? And it took a a MONTH to come up with that stupid comment? PATHETIC! And again with the calling Americans stupid? Which country killed Osama Bin Laden huh? And why won't you listen to EVERYONE else on this video, do yourself a favor and shut up.
BryanRiel 10 months ago
@BryanRiel I'll explain this slowly so even a gullible religious f'tard like yourself can understand. MOST people on earth live lives NOT defined by the approval of the YouTube Community, if it took me a month to respond it's because YOU are not important enough to require the 20 seconds it takes to respond earlier. It's you, not me. My comment was directed at the response of people TO the situation, none being of a civic mind, an indictment of your society, you suck, get over it.Bin Laden?HA!
PsychoticusRex 10 months ago
@BryanRiel Which god? If it's Cthulhu; who thinks Americans who worship random Mexicans named Jesus (pronounced: Hey! ZEUS!) taste like chicken, I would admit to feeling sympathetic. But on a more serious note, you Yankees are a fairly sheltered lot aren't ya? One little comment on an insignificant YouTube video and your fit to be tied. Nice perspective.
PsychoticusRex 10 months ago
@PsychoticusRex Ok. Fine. You win. You hate America and that's that. Took me a bit to realize that there are millions of ppl in this world that think the same. Now, I would like to end this argument and move on. Sorry for wasting your time... and mine LOL!

@PsychoticusRex
Since your from Canada ill inform you a little,
Tsunami (tsnä`mē), series of catastrophic ocean waves generated by submarine movements, which may be caused by earthquakes, volcanic eruptions ect. Tsunamis may have wavelengths of up to several hundred miles and travel at speeds up to 500 mi per hr (800 km per hr), yet have wave heights of less than 3 ft (1 m). Do the math you fucking idiot. & why are you talking shit on a country that's saved your ass countless times.
igotboomy 1 year ago
@igotboomy while i don't hate americans i do have to agree with my country men on this point and by the way when did you save our ass..countless times?
richardtheone 1 year ago
@igotboomy Way to hide behind your "Greatest Generation"s skirts cowardly Yankee. From THE country that gave us "Math is hard" (barbie) one perhaps would be advised not to cast to many stones from yonder glass house. The boats in question were moving at MAYBE 14 km/hr past the dock, ahem, for the nautically disinclined, that's the normal DOCKING SPEED for someone who's competent to operate a marine vehicle! Appropriate application of ropes and there wouldn't have been a "YouTube moment".

Dear @PsychoticusRex,
I think you will be pleased to know that I agree with you.
Dasunddaseinzig 1 year ago
@Dasunddaseinzig Why should people standing around do something? What if they don't even have boats there? What if they are by-standers, that are happy to watch Richy Rich's boat swim with the fishes?
mrpants1971 1 year ago
dear @Dasunddaseinzig,
i wanna see you trying to hold back a 10 ton boat against those currents. why cant you? (cuz you're retarded for thinking anyone can... and yeah, a coward).
justdancelucy6211 1 year ago
@Dasunddaseinzig Thank you. Do the rich deserve to have all their crap taken away in the most galling way possible, yes I agree. The POINT of the post that others seem to have missed are that the people involved in this video demonstrated none of the vaunted civic-mindedness that comes from people who see themselves as a part of a larger community. None of the SCOUT ethic, more along the lines of the ADOLECENT ethic. That was the indictment, not success, but the ATTEMPT to fix was not made.
PsychoticusRex 10 months ago
@PsychoticusRex did you just insult a whole country, 350 million plus people because someone didnt risk their life for an out of control boat??? you are a freakin idiot... in fact I feel kinda stupid for aknowledging your idiotic comment.. I guess i just could resist telling you that your mother wishes she had gotten an abortion...

@dangermous1968 I insult a whole country, because this behaviour is endemic and indicative of many moral failings and personal short comings. Ah, since i don't fawn over our American lords and masters i must be from a broken family. Way to conform to the stereotype.
PsychoticusRex 10 months ago
@PsychoticusRex I ask you ...How many times have YOU found yourself in the possition to jump on a moving boat and stop it from floating out of control? what.... NONE? then maybe you should stfu and stop judging a whole country for something u have obsolutely no experience in...
maybe u should stop watching movies that show the actors jumping onto a moving boat or a moving train and saving the day ....and assuming that it is the same in real life...how about it?
dangermous1968 10 months ago
@PsychoticusRex dude.. im canadian and dont like americans that much but wtf on earth where they suposed to do and if they jumped in the boats thed just get swept away so you need to stfu and stop calling them cowards when you would have sat there pickin your fuckng nuts
gakman41 11 months ago
@PsychoticusRex
At least it was just a boat that got damaged! Compared to Japan where many people were injured and many died! I don't care about a few boats compared to that!
schmegal08 11 months ago
@PsychoticusRex Oh yes... let me just jump into a raging current to save someone's boat.. The average mid-size boat weighs about 2,630 Kg.. Moving at about 40 kph- which is about how fast they were moving.. Would require a 14,866 Kg force to stop it.. That would mean an empty semi-truck would have to be in that path to stop it- so please, unless you weigh as much as a semi-truck- Shut the fuck up..

Would have been nice if some of these guys on the docks made more of an effort to stop the boat with ropes or whatever every time it came to a stop so it would'nt continue crashing into things causing more and more damage.
