  • My bone stock Mach1 w/used $50 MT ET Streets ran 13.089 @ 106.7 in Houston. I've highway rolled T/A's, Formula's & Firehawks before & its a drivers race. Both a Trans Am & Mach1 are capable of mid 12's on slicks & skinnies stock! A gt is not the same car but the 3V is finally getting close to the Mach 1's. A stock terminator cobra will run mid 12's. Once they do a pulley swap its game over. I wish my Mach would have been built w/a 70mm turbo on 6lbs stock.

  • The trans am and ss camaro ended production in 02. Everyone knows that and the ws6 and ss were not meant to compete with those cars. I am just saying not trying to be an ass. Who really knows if the f-bodies stouck around till 04 they could have supercharged thier egines or gave it the GTO LS2. But they didn't. Both good cars though.

  • Mustangs are pretty nice cars but the 4th Gen F-Bodies always outperformed them. In most cases, there's not even a contest just like in this video.

  • I'am a trans am fan but my hats off the the 03+ Cobra trans am just can't hang sadly... stock vs stock and the new Shelby with 540hp ouch. The Mach 1 and the Ls1 are basically the same in power its a drivers race.

  • Mach 1's have 305-310 hp. LS1's have 350-375 hp. Mach's have a shorter rear end ratio though.

  • Machs are known to be underrated. Most dynos show them putting out closer to the 320-330 range.

  • I've decided I didn't like you giving misleading info to the public. To clarify for everyone (and let's use 2002 models)

    firebird = camaro

    forumula 310HP = (no comparable)

    transam = Z28 310HP

    WS6 = SS 325HP STOCK!!!

    Firehawk = (no comparable) 345hp

    can you get an SS equipped comparably to a firehawk? YES... BUT IT DOESN'T COME THAT WAY STOCK! a base SS is just like a base WS6. both of which could have been bumped up with SLP options. People, do your research. Firehawk stands alone stock.

  • no. not true. LS6 blocks in some. the heads are all ls1. all 01 and 02s came with ls6 intake and a handfull got the ls6 block.

  • SLP modded was implied. SLP had true duals? didnt know that. But what i was trying to say is that not only were the ratings not down to the T with any LSx cars but that perhaps the LS6 made the diff to 345 horse... being that was the highest rating on any fbody from SLP or GM.

  • there are no exact power figures. ls6 manifolded '01 and up had around 335 and in '02 when some fbody's received ls6 blocks in place of the ls1 (if u dont believe me, look it up) they were at the end cranking out more like 345hp.

First off, the FIREHAWK was an SLP conversion package, SLP took formulas, and trans ams and coverted them with their package to a 345HP firehawk. Not 335 you idiot. Secondly an SS and a WS6 had the same power SPECS! it was 325HP. LOOK AT A DAMN BUILD SHEET! I own both and I'd bet them both you don't own either. STFU guy. You're giving people wrong info. Just cuz SLP sells the package for Ls1 cars, doesn't mean they were sold that way!

  • SS does not equal Firehawk. I do not care that they both were "SLP" cars. The exhaust and some suspension parts were different between the two. The SS did not have the power rating of the Firehawk. The SS was sold as the same power (HP and Torque) as the WS6. I own both, have the stickers to prove. And I'm not partial. I love all F-bodies.

  • Bone stock my mach 1 ran a 13.11@108. There are a few other mach owners that ran alittle faster than me. 13.08@108. These are manual machs. The autos are slower, usually 13.5-13.8. These times vary with driver skill. LS1s put up very similar times as well under almost the same track conditions. These cars are so evenly matched that you cannot give the advantage to one over the other. It simply comes down to driver skill. Plain and simple. Anyone who says otherwise about either car is arrogant.

  • This is the first good statement I've read on here. First of all. Even identical cars sold from the same lot will put down different times, HP, and TQ. When one guys Mach runs 13.12, another stocker will run a 13.52 with the same driver and same conditions. Take LS1 cars. We dino stock ones all day long and they can range from 283RWHP to 349RWHP. There are some called factory freaks that for whatever reason are just bad. My dynoed stock at 323RWHP-02 M6 WS6

  • No. I have talked to several LS1 owners and yes they vary wildly on dyno numbers. One LS1 will yank the crap out of another. Mach 1s are not this way. Most all mach 1s will dyno very similar numbers with a difference of maybe 5-10 hp apart which can very well be due to the weather conditions on that particular day. Most all mach 1s are pretty consistent on power. Autos vary alittle more than the manuals do. We have weighed several f-bodies on a local scale(my car too) and they were all heavy

  • Ive also seen plenty of bone stock LS1s put down 300 rwhp and about 325-330 rwtq. Obviously thats more than the 320 hp they are rated for. A manual LS1 with 15% drivetrain loss will make 345 crank hp and 380 crank tq. These cars were under rated from the factory. Now you would think that a TA has a huge advantage because it makes more power but you would be wrong. A bone stock manual mach 1 weighs 3357 lbs(no driver). A bone stock manual LS1 weighs 3627 lbs. Mach 1: 10.08 lbs/hp TA: 10.48 lbs/hp

  • You need to remove the set of weights from the trunk of your LS1. My 02 M6 WS6 weighed 3452 with me in it at the track with 3/4 of a tank of gas. It has all options including T-Tops, full power options, everything. My bud has an 01 SS with the solid top, no power options, cloth manual seats and his weighs around 3200 without him in it.

  • F-bodies are NOT known for being light at all. Sorry but in my experience every f-body ive seen weighed were no less than 3500 lbs so I dont see how your getting those numbers. 3200 lbs? Ya I dont buy it. MAYBE gutted, but not stock, sorry.

  • Sorry, you shouldn't buy it. I did not mean to type with me in it. That was the weight with me NOT in it. And it was bone stock. And no... never "3200 pounds" I don't weigh anywhere near 252#'s!!! We've had a few stock Mach's in to dyno and their numbers are more consistant but they have ranged more than 5-10HP. In the last year the range has been from 281.7 to 301.1RWHP on the stock Mach's. Again, sorry for the weight confusion.

  • Ok I dont know where someone is getting their numbers, but some of you need some education. Considering that I own a 2004 Azure Blue Mach 1 and that I have several local friends with LS1 powered camaros and trans ams(i like the T/As over the camaros) these cars dont put down what the factory rates them at.

    Bone stock my car put down 283.3 rwhp and 320 rwtq and I have the dyno graph to prove it. Its a 5 speed manual with 15% drivetrain loss which means it made 333 crank hp and 368 crank tq.

    Trans-am = Z28

    WS6 = SS (though WS6 times were better)

    Firehawk (composed of both formula's and Transams) only model with major SLP options(340HP rating)

  • i raced several ls1 fbodies at the track when my mach was bone stock. i beat every single one but it was a close race everytime. truth be told a mach 1 and an ls1 stock vs stock manual vs manual is a dead even race. Both cars have the same ETs and trap speeds and only vary by driver. I won because i was the better driver that day. Once the mods start going on tho all bets are off. You can look up vids of bone stock machs beating ls1 fbodies and the other way around.

  • the mach 1 is a 5 year old model and still smokes a new GT as well. the ws6 was to compete with the svt cobra which is now a shelby gt500 in either case the ws6 will loose. the trans am had no z28 version so the mustang gt had no direct competition from the firebird model.

  • That Mach1 is not a SVT vehicle. And that is the typical outcome of a stock Mach1 racing a stock LS1 (assuming both drivers are equal)..

  • svt means ford special vehicle team. the engine in the mach was basically the same as the cobra but tuned a bit different. so yeah its a svt car. plus the mach 1 and trans am are dead even in a race, the trans am has a few more ponies, but the mach 1 has better gears, a higher rev line and its ligher. so both cars dead even my friend. things would be different if it was a mustang GT. and there I do see the gt loosing to the trans am but not the mach 1.

  • What are the numbers of a newer Shelby GT? I consistently was beating down a Shelby GT this past summer at the track. It was black, with two faded stripes up the middle, and it also had hood pins. It came like that from the factory..

  • the shelby GT is basically the same engine in the mustang gt so maybe 13.7 quarter mile. the difference of the shelby are the aesthethics and I think the exhaust system but that I am not sure. so basically a dressed up gt.

  • a 2004 svt cobra runs 12.9 sometimes less. what you probably saw was a v6 mustang trying to appear like a cobra which happens a lot of times. dont be fooled, by this people. if you were to know about cars, you will hear the cobra engine out of a v6 mustang who probably runs 14.4 with a cheap ass supercharger. lol that was funny.

  • I know thats a fact. My first car was an RX-7. I'll admit I got that thing around sideways more than once. For a new driver, I'd recommend a front wheel drive or all wheel drive any day. Iriconically, I'm driving an SRT-4 now, after I learned how to drive a rear wheel drive. Oh well, at least its good on gas and kinda peppy.

    Engine liter size doesn't mean anything.

    The 2.4L ariel atom makes 500 horsepower and could roast your big bad 5.7L. and no, you can't buy a new camaro or GTO for less than a GT. GT's start at $24,900, quit bashing us. GM has always been more expensive than Ford.

  • With even drivers the race is well in favor of the LS1. Although a mach 1 gets a lot more respect from me than a GT. Its just not going to do it, especially from a dig. Been there, done that. The mach is almost a half second slower.
