  • Fractal-tastic - I'm impressed! That was some trip.

  • Any screenshot from this video would make an EPIC desktop background!!!

  • Nothing is bigger that the box in which it is contained...

  • @manot87

Unless there are many boxes, just one of which we call 'The known universe'.

  • @metafis

But it seems that whet you take some distance from our universe, even the concept of a box loses all substanciality, so it wouldn't be a good model to apply to the universe. In fact, If you take the universe from the ultimate viewpoint in the string-theory for example (or in buddhisme, taoïsme etc.) it would be a state, in which any state is true, without differenciations within itself. Which means the conciousness experiencing itself as a unity with the universe.

  • @manot87 unless the box is a window.

  • Great job! Great mandelbrot! )))

  • Fantastic! Thanks metafis! I keep getting flashbacks when I look at some species of Brassica.

  • This is my favorite fractal zoom- listen with vangelis in the background and watch creation!! many blessings :)

  • October update.

Thanks guys, never expected this many views!!. Again, good comments as well, rather more thougtful than the usual stuff. :)

Anyway..I found a 3d fractal program called 'mandelbulb'. (google it, first entry, its free to download, google images 'mandelbulb' for examples).

Amazing program, full 3d zoomable and navigable mandelbrot!.

    I shall post a 3d zoom soon.

  • che sbatta

  • is this a brain wash?

  • @MaRcIu27 no it is self repetition, also known as fractals.

  • So much rainbow

  • This reminds me of a Mandala. There is a deep meaning here somewhere.

  • @gangoffour1 It means your living inside an atom which makes up something else which is living on a planet floating inside another atom which makes up something else which is living on a planet floating inside another atom which makes up something else which is living on a planet floating inside another atom which makes up..... and you have universes inside of you which have planets in them with little things made of atoms which have universes inside of them which have......

  • @edgarloike Yes, I understand. It's like Jesus saying, "My father's house has many rooms." Or the concept of Indian "Net of Gems" or "When every blink of the eyes of Vishnu marks the passing of a Brahma... ." I think I can only really comprhend this thru. metaphor. It's stunning!

  • zoom in a graham's number.

  • @Gyphia

Problem with the HD is the used colors, not the sharpness IMO. Mandelbrot in rainbow could be so cool for VJing.

  • mindblowing

  • its 2001 a space odyssey all over again

  • thumbs up if you watched the whole thing :-)

  • that was some cool shit. nuff said

  • If its a .jpg picture, how many Mo must it be???

  • this is what happens when God divides by zero

  • @HowManyTimes234 No it's not. This is what happens when somebody creates a Mandelbrot pattern. You obviously have no working knowledge of mathematics. Kill self please.

  • @goonsauce Your attitude is what happens when people don't know how to take a joke. You obviously have no sense of humor and you lack the ability to detect sarcasm. Kill self please

  • @HowManyTimes234 No, I can detect sarcasm just fine. I just can't do it when somebody says something that makes no sense at all. Wtf are you even talking about? "When god divides by zero, it creates a mandelbrot pattern that you can zoom in on." Sweet. That makes no sense.

  • @goonsauce "dividing by zero" is a common internet joke used when someone describes something that is amazing, weird, or unusual. Dividing a number by zero results in an answer which is unexplainable or undefined, and dividing by zero in computers usually results in errors. "Divides by zero" has become an internet expression meme because of this and is sarcastically applied to images and situations like this. So, again, drop your fucking attitude and learn to detect sarcasm. You clearly can't.

  • @HowManyTimes234 hahahaha 'drop your fucking attitude' nice man, nice! lol

  • @goonsauce you really don't have a sense of humor.

  • @brandeezy108 Wrong, I do have a sense of humor. It comes into play when something funny occurs. In the case of HowManyTimes234's comment, nothing funny occurred.

  • make this HD and a tad slower please!!!!

  • What happened to the music?

  • Anybody want to trip balls today? Because I am willing to TRIP BALLS. I am willing to trip ALL the balls.

  • And to imagine that this devilish thing consists of nothing but numbers, repeated in one simple function.

  • @fyra165792 I concur - all that infinite complexity being the result of one simple equation (z=z2+c) 6 characters long just blows my mind. wide. open. - wider than the diameter of the visible universe! (that is said to be approx' thirteen point seven billion light years wide at this time (2011) :D woo woo!!!!

  • lol deep zoom at 240p, I know more useless things, but more useful than this bullcrap

  • infinite surface area in an enclosed object IE the universe; your mind..

the universe is mirrored, every square inch, inside the recesses of your mind

  • For some reason, I put the theme to Superjail! on while watching this. For some reason, I also think it works.

  • If this fractal can fit on my flash drive and it is bigger than the universe, does that mean the universe can fit on my flash drive?

  • @JJBerthume The universe is already in your head.

  • @JJBerthume It means the instructions to build the universe can fit on your flash drive! but I believe the only thing that can hold the actual universe itself - is reality. I just want to know, is reality a fractal?

  • @fractalzooms Reality is a holographic, electric fractal

  • @JJBerthume

No. The equation used to create the fractal will fit on your flash drive. The fractal itself will not. And no flash drive ever will be able to.

  • @JJBerthume numerologists are trying to get to the fractal formula of the universe including all the spatial dimensions and the time dimensions that might fit to your flash drive. but on the other hand it might be total chaos and could be infinitely massive on regards to its data. So in perspective our universe might be a data storage device for an organism that is even greater than the known universe. Also we might fit to an fractal that equals zero. After all, the god created us from nothing;)

  • @JJBerthume yes

  • @JJBerthume now can you imagine that its even possible no one believed me its called infinite potencial

  • @JJBerthume I know that your comment was a joke but I feel compelled to say this: a program that calculates a fractal just has the calculator and a viewer; your computer does all the work. The program itself does not contain the entire fractal zoomed in; just a calculation :)

  • a neverending story... incredible! thanks for sharing-

  • Oh OK, I just read the notes. Duh.

  • What size would the original image be by the time we got to the end of the video? Is that where the title came from? Great stuff, thanks. It's like watching the Big Bang in slow motion.

  • love Mandelbrot!, first time i was introduced to it when i was 10 years old and had an Atari Lynx handheld video game system, they had put that program on the unit itself. Pretty cool if you didn't have any games to play, you could stare at it all day!

  • Nice vid but you need to put some classical music behind it.

  • i'm tripping

  • Wow, thanks for all the views!. and the comments, some interesting ideas.

Ok, I did'nt put music on because it's hard to think of something everyone would like, so I leave it up to you.

My choice would be 'time captives' by arthur browns kingdom come. (Omitting the first 2 mins of the song). Music and lyrics fit nicely.

  • @metafis And about this precise video, it could not be deeper than the universe, since it is contained in the universe. So the universe is at least as deep as the fractal, at least in the fractal itself. Infinity within infinity.

  • needs music..

  • Watta zooooooooooooooommmmmmm!!!!!! Wooooooooooooohoooooooo, that's fucking amazing!!

  • I'm looking for a Mandelbrot Set that used to be here a long time ago! Can someone please send it to me if you have it???!?!? It had something referring to the universe in the title like this one and it was up forever. idk where the fahk it went!

  • @rainislife it was also up at the same time period this one was >.> this was like a link off it

  • @rainislife stop using drugs, dude!

  • concept:

if the universe is vast and infinite and it never ends with scattered galaxies an stars and planets all round it,wouldnt that make us REALLY small and insuperor to the galaxy. and wouldnt that mean that we dont exist?that we are just parts of a little fractal like the galaxy possibly to be a really small thing compared to something that controlles it?just thinking about it makes me wonder about life

  • all of a sudden i wanna grow long hair and a beard and play age of aquarius over again while watching this

  • How come the black horizontal line never gets any wider?

  • its about time math did something awesome.

  • is it a coincidence that it wus discovered in the 70's wen every1 did acid? very psychedelic

  • Had the technology been available I wonder if Kubrick would have used this in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

  • double rainbow across the sky!!

  • the colors make it hard to see the set. very pretty though

  • 3:14 AMAZING!!!

    A UNIVERSE WITHIN A UNIVERSE

  • fuckin dumb shit aint no music

  • could actually watch this for weeks

  • A moneyless, classless, stateless communities of humanity expressing our freedom in creative harmonious cooperation for a world that is so POTENTIALLY AND ACTUALLY nourishing. Capitalism in any form, Statist or Corporatist is the denial of our common humanity in a politically manipulated, tyrannical armed MARKET SYSYTEM of artificial scarcity that is designed to perpetuate the enslavement of immense humanity for material interest of the criminal ruling elite.

  • I DONT GET IT!!!! what are these art done on a computer?? how are they made. and how does it have anything to do with math.

  • So... what is it??? What is is really, bacteria, a cell, energy from a lightning strike???

  • We are in 3rd density/dimension, the most "dense" part of the Universe where thought moves rather slow to create reality.

    Thought + Emotion = Reality.

Thank God for that lol. If thought alone was reality we'd have a really bizarre world around us. The Universe uses emotion as a "check" to make sure it is what You really want. So a shallow, superficial desire aka wish will not manifest in reality due to it not being anchored in emotion.

Emotional Energy + Focused Thought = Your reality

  • @blepfo: I think the concept of how huge it is may be just as trippy as the colors @.@

  • WOW!!!

  • how deep is deep?

  • its like lsd trip all over again

  • gives new meaning to scale

  • Just proves that maths has structure more complex than anything humans can ever hope to understand.

  • @splattyfish if most humans can't understand it, it doesn't mean that humans in general can't understand it. There are some ppl in this world that understand the way our universe work. we just refuse to listen to their teachings and remain ignorant.

  • @splattyfish the thing is. we do understand it. Mandelbrot figured it out. do more research into it and you will realize that this equation is what makes up the natural earth. everything from how a forest grows to how our heart beats all goes back to this one equation. its pretty coo

  • ...You could see this as trippy... or you could see that the end result is 9 duoquinquagintillion times the size of the universe... THAT'S PRETTY INCOMPREHENSIBLY GINORMOUS...

  • @godlytroller ur name kinda gave it away.....

  • @CaptainFluffy6644

    No shit bitch

  • @godlytroller if i was a faggot it wouldn't be your mum i'm fucking each night

  • @godlytroller Brainless yet interesting! Do all closet queers refer to intellectuals as faggots?Or is it just you who are void of any capacity of understanding the complexities of life.Climb out of the faggot box and try to expand your intellectual horizons or continue life as a homophobe, your choice!

  • every time i show someone this they dont understand it! they just laugh at it, thinking its a windows screensaver! too bad they dont understand the complexity and the ways it has revolutionised so many things!

  • i don't understand why fractals are important, why is this called gods thumb print, what relation does it have to physics and the world??plz explain

  • @McBeefsupreme They explain mathematically how natural formations can have seemingly random patterns (ie why snowflakes are unique). by studying fractals we can map out the possible outcomes of processes that until then were considered chaos.

  • RIP Mandelbrot :/

  • Very cul it sound way bettr withweekend wars by MGMT

  • How strong was the computer, witch calculated that one? -Awesome amazing!

  • This is actually one of my favorite locations in the set.

  • Man this is some crazy shit.

  • @arzoyan lol wut?

  • @esther19741974 i was with you untill the "jesus" part

  • @esther19741974 lol wut?

  • lol wut? 2 wut? lol!

  • OH GOD MY EYES!! MY BRAIN!!

  • where is the music!!!

  • My friend told me to look up Fractals. And I happened upon this video. I have no clue what fractals are or what this video is trying to show besides zooming in on something.....if anyone would be so kind as to shed some light as to what is going on here I would appreciate it

  • @superlucci google the definition, or better yet youtube the video on mandelbrot set with arthur c clarke, who explains it wonderfully in six parts

  • holy shit! this is the longest zoom ive ever seen. its almost unbelievable.

its kinda like dr sues's theory , a universe inside a universe, inside a universe inside a universe, inside a universe inside a universe, inside a universe inside a universe, inside a universe inside a universe

  • Ugh. This particular part of the Mandelbrot set makes me nauseous...

  • and thats how humans have invented something that doesnt exist in nature....INFINITY...now thats a good start...lets see how they will invent ZERO ..that would be smart to explain

  • It's full on! What does this mean?

  • There. Mandelbrots: man's bullshit question about infinite things answered! Can we stop trashing people, animals, and the planet now?

  • @Bodhidharma1986 No, we still don't know why the Universe exists. The Mandelbrot set only tells us that such a thing as infinity does exist. We need to find out why.

  • The discovery of fractals is infinitely important.

But did you know, the fractal is not infinite? If the vision represents numbers, we find that ultimately we will come to the 'edge'.

Imagine watching this zoom for a year and then falling over a fractal edge into pitch blackness. you've reached the edge - this is it. the end of the journey. true enlightment. can you come back? you're still there!

  • This would be awesome set to some Rachmaninoff or Stravinsky.

  • The Mandelbrot Set has been called by some the 'Fingerprint of God' and i believe it!!

  • and this never ll ends it s the eternal now!!!!!

  • the awsome thing is that each "baby mandelbrot" is unique, varying slightly from the whole set's shape and eachother, yet each having as much infinite detail. The Mandelbrot set truly contains infinite information within a few lines of code.

  • i shouldnt have taken that fuckin acid man!

  • Universe within a Unverse

  • Go further, until we see the face of God!

  • mush bigger than the universe...?

    dude!

  • @DivineNucleus lol wut?

  • amazing fractal...thanks for share it...

  • Very beautiful this fractal!! is there fractal screensaver? where can i get it? thanks everybody

  • @Gyphia

That's incorrect. The set is calculated by iterating z^2 + c, where z is the previous iteration. Z can clearly be either real or complex depending on the starting value for c.

  • precioso...

  • ....a journey into oblivion.

  • listen "I am the walrus" with this.

  • like parralel universe

  • 2:58 - Is it over? 3:16 - Nope!

  • is there a program that creates these?

  • @seinfeldfan7898

There are several, GNU XaoS is probably the best free one (google it).

  • love it 10 +++ great way to end a night doing drugs XD

  • im ripped as fuck right now

  • I do not understand this other commenter's pov. We use comments in my you tube community to educate each other, all day, every day. Education is our main goal for coming to you tube. LOL. Beautiful item, thanks.

  • Sorry, but without meaning to offend: the day I come to YouTube for education will be the day the grip of the Alzheimer's has become so strong that I no longer remember how to turn a page. One book can achieve more in the way of education than a hundred pages of YouTube 'comments'.

  • @TheKaryobin Certainly we must promote books, they are the foundation of knowledge, IMO.Note: Young people need to give books to their very small children, it will last a lifetime. Re: I was specifically talking about my community here on you tube where our main goal is sharing information, all sourced in reading material. We are big on reading and sharing what we read. Love to you and yours.

  • @phnixlady I thought it was watching cats fall into cardboard boxes.

  • First off: good job (coz I couldn't do it), but it's a bit blurred and the whole point of fractals is complexity, so blurring kind of misses that point doesn't it?

Secondly, if you don't understand what's going on and why simple recurrsion is so fascinating in this context, then read a fucking book. Comments sections on YouTube are not intended to educate, they are here to keep conversations RECURSIVE.

    I'd recommend James Gleick's 'Chaos'.

  • @Gyphia No it does not because I don't effing understand why this is zooming. It's always images that return infinite times...where is the zoom. And thus why is has something to do with the universe's size..

  • I don't understand what this zooming fractal videos have to do with the universe? Why should this be bigger than the universe? :/

  • @bluprint79 I'll help.

The differential between the beginning and the end of the zoom of this image is larger than the differential you would get if you went from the largest to smallest known structures/elements of the universe, including the whole bloody thing.

Looking at such elements reveals that large scale and small scale structures mirror each other's patterns. Spiral galaxies to tornadoes to the DNA strand. The Mandelbrot Set reflects the accuracy of this model.

    Hope this helps.

  • take a point called z in the complex plane

    let z1 be z squared plus c

    and z2 is z1 squared plus c

    and z3 is z2 squared plus c

    and so on

  • I'm a little dissappointed. I always assumed the recurrsion that makes these images so facinating was a byproduct of some complex chaos math. Now I find out the math is all about recurrsion. So why wouldn't you expect inseresting patterns and images to come out of that? It seems inevitable, not surprising to me.

No offence if you made this. I'm sure it was quite a lot of work.

  • Psilocybin gives such similar eidetic images to fractals, it's absolutely uncanny.

  • IT really seems like a lot of people are getting this to a point, your mind is growing with math and most of us cant do the basic stuff in math, this is a signal from somewere else fuck SETI and there waste of time, they our here and have been and we our part of them, all of them.

  • Einsteins spooky action at a distance, for those in the know.

  • speakest thou of the fact that the universe is a hologram?

  • omg! imagine live inside that fractal!!!

  • we may already

  • its like what happens if you shut your eyes hard enough

  • oh yeah ur right. haha

  • it is all just a lever to me

  • this stuff is crazy!!!

  • My god, if I watched this on acid...
