Alone Again Or....absolutely classic song....the whole album is brilliant. Man, whatever that was in the water that produced this generation of American and British musicians, I sure wish we could find it again. They were absolutely extraordinary. The list is endless...Lee, Hendrix, Page, Townshend, Dylan, Lennon, McCartney, Young, Gilmour, Barrett, Joplin, Gaye, Mayfield, Waters, Marley, Fogerty, Plant, Bonham, JPJ, Davies, Mitchell, Aretha, Wonder, Wilson.....truly unreal.
arthur lee and bryan mclean`s music never tires or gets old ! they are like wine! get finer and more invigorating as the years go by ! can you truly say that about the doors, beatles and stones . . . anything else ? ? ? WHO HAS A VOIKE ARTHUR`S ???
The only music-related T-shirt I own is an Arthur Lee one which I still wear around Brighton in the summer. I'm always amazed at the number of people who recognise him and want to stop and talk about him.
every song on Forever Changes is brilliant.......Alone Again Or is one of my all time fave songs and the album helped me through an extremely difficult time in my life.
We still have the original album that my wife 1st played for me in 1968. I was bluntly blown away. Fast forward 43 years to last month when I found this concert on Netflix. Once again both of us were stunned by Arthur Lee's album. He had a presence only matched by Brudda Iz and Jimmy.
I listen to the music of today and nothing compares with Love, what an amazing concert that must have been at the Albert Hall. RIP Mr Lee, your music and spirit live on.
Fuk' : I was in London ,when A.lee came out fr. havin' done 'Time' (app.for a 'gun rap'??)...He was playin' in the half moon ,putney..an' many other places : like a 'dickhead' i didn't go!!![Had spent my dole check on other 'extravagancias'!!!! Love and the Byrds were the sound in Los Angeles when I was growing up here. Of course the Byrds went on to much larger fame, which I never understood why Love never really did. So I had the chance to see themm several times in the 60's and early 70's as well as three more times after Arthur's release from prison before his death. The last shows he did along with this clip were incredible. Arthur never sounded better than he did the last few years of his life.
Had the honour of seeing Arthur on this tour at the Limelight club in Crewe, packed to the rafters ! the owner hadn't even heard of him and was stunned at the crowd!, one of the most memorable nights of my life, only matched a couple of years later seeing Paul Kantner play " blows against the empire" at the same venue... Arthur's gone and so is the Limey, big hole in my life !!
I was so fortunate to see the Forever Changes concert at the Birchmere in Alexandria VA. I will never forget it. Arthur Lee was just plain magic. One of those greats that show up only once. Arthur, R.I.P. You are still LOVE>

Frankly, to my ears Arthur Lee is much better than Kurt Cobain, and Love is much better than Nirvana. Yet every day folks rarely hear of Arthur Lee, while Kobain is mythologized and Nirvana heralded as the "sound of a generation." Tells you something. All I know is, Arthur Lee was brilliant and unique and deserving of more accolades for his accomplishments than he received during his lifetime.
One day I went to a recordstore and told the guy working there that I wanted a few great rock n roll albums. He told me to buy the forever changes album...my life have not been the same since.
Love this, thank you -- this concert was at Town Hall the same effin night that Brian Wilson was performing Smile at Carnegie Hall! So I missed this...anyway -- I think "Forever Changes" is the dark "Pet Sounds" -- I mean that as high praise!
Also agree with the person mentioned who Spirit -- "12 Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus" is right up there with "Forever Changes."

Authur Lee singing one of the most beautiful songs before his passing, Love was such a fantastic band that I didn't know back then, Such talent ...where is it?
One of the best Albums ever created. I'm sure sorry Lee is dead but I'd thought him dead a long time ago. This is truly a bonus for me to see how well this was performed -so true to the original recording. I found a tape of Forever Changes and nearly broke my hand grabbing it. The very best of the '60s.
The year 1964 Aquarius theater Hollywood, The band called love opening tune My Little Red Book.....been a fan ever since ...a true artist and 1 of the most underrated musicians ever. The year 2008 Anaheim Calif ..had the privilege and the honor of seeing and listening to Arthur Lee and love again and still the best ..Arthur will be missed but not forgotten R.I.P
It's release was December 1967 and was recorded starting June. You would be correct (especially if you're in Britain where it was a bigger hit) that it had more of its run in early 68.
Perfect song written by Bryan McClean unlike most of Love's song which were written by god .. I mean arthur lee a demented romantic of the first order. Forever Changes is in my Top Ten CDs of all time and Love is Robert Plant's favorite band. The fact that this song had no chance of being a hit just shows how insipid the tastes of the masses often on. Oh yeah and that's not a funny thing.

I had the incredible pleasure of presenting Arthur and this superb band in concert about five years ago, and it was a transcendent moment, it really was. A real gentleman to work with, sweet guy. The DVD from which these two songs come is brilliant, and I'll admit it still chokes me up. Bless you Arthur, blue skies and green lights or whatever version they have of that where you are now. I hope you're at peace.
Great video. I was lucky enough to see Love on many occasions and even shook Arthur's hand after his appearance at Gilfest . A true gentleman and genius, he thanked ME for taking the trouble to listen to his music for nearly 40 years. RIP Arthur we LOVE you.
not only was he one of the greats in the 60's . he kept his voice & still one of the greats till the end. most singers lose their voice with age sound awful. the stones still keep going its amazing at their age.
Thanks so much to hershoreline for this posting...In 2003, Rolling Stone ranked the album Forever Changes 40th in the top 500 albums ever... pretty high standing.
Alone Again Or was covered beautifully by UFO in '77 as well as by The Damned and many others.
Through this single album .... Forever Changes ... Arthur Lee (in particular) and Love (as a group) ... simply: achieved immortality. Every Artist's dream. Achieved in spades, by these guys. I am honored to say i saw them perform live, in 1967, in Toronto.
wow, these lyrics in my opinion touch on like a major things i worry about in my life for years, so repsond and i will attempt to justify the appeal of the lyrics. btw, i don't know alot about production but think its the released version i have of forever changes and it sounds great. the relative levels between instruments sounds good.
I agree with jessicafischer. I actually much prefer listening to this recording. So much power in it, unbelievable. House Is Not...'s solo is incendiary.
I highly recommend this the CD of this concert - as much as I love the original Forever Changes album I think I find myself listening to the live version more often. I think this may be one of the greatest live performances ever.
one of the best bands ever, along with the doors, west coast sounds 65 to 68 were the best.today we have the coral that comes near.if only there was more
One summer on Sunset I heard this Ayahuasca coming from a record store. I instantly recognized that it was Love but . . . it changed all that came before and after. Can you imagine being a producer at Elektra in 66, 67, and 68? Why they were never bigger than the Doors, I'll never know.
The CD is better of course. You do realize Love Forever Changes is one of the best fricken best album ever recorded ? .. other favs are Buffalo Springfield and Neil Young and The Replacements .. Love didn't tour and Replacements threw beer on fans and made crappy vidoes and didn't show on Sat Nite Lite and so great music goes unknown. Someone buy the Move's best of .. someone listen to Phil Ochs and not his protest songs just listen to Changes .. Dylan's peer. And you can call my name ..
the pinnacle riff of a house is not a motel on this live version which the bass player plays and then when the guitars join in at around 7.33 is one of my favourites ever. gives me goosebumps everytime
I heard the music of Love for the first time about 2 years ago, among them Forever changes and Da capo: an absolute REVELATION and "earopener": LOVE IT!!!
forever changes - still my favorite all time album - rip ....arthur .... ken..... bryan - you are truly missed........but never will be forgotten - LOVE Forever.....
I think this album stands up so well to the test of time. I sure did drop a lot of acid to this album! The imagery, the complexity of the music and arrangements, were a quantum leap from thier previous album, My Little Red Book is a classic, but FG. whew, just whew!!! SO far aheade of their time
i was at a mod weekender in london a couple of years ago waiting for love to play. untouchables do i think. who did we meet in the crowd watching the suport but the great man himself. r.i.p. my good man it was great to meet you
Apparently rated as one of the best of 50 albums of all time. Sorry I was unaware of the group LOVE until the death of Arthur Lee in 2006. LOVE apparently maintained a southwestern regional location and did not tour much out of that region but kept a huge fan base over the years.Just glad that YouTube introduced Arthur Lee to me and has preserved a minute portion of his music. Alone Again Or is an awesome piece of yesteryear's music.Like finding a hidden treasure.
A buddy from California turned this Iowa boy into a Love fanatic while we were in Vietnam together. Thanks to whoever uploaded it. I would never have known that the DVD of the concert exists. I just hope there are some sitll available. It also got me digging around on the net and found out that Arthur passed away in August. Arthur, ya done good, buddy!
words do fail. He was one of the greatest stars of his age. Forever Changes ranks with Pet Sounds, Revolver, etc.

One summer on Sunset I heard this Ayahuasca coming from a record store. I instantly recognized that it was Love but . . . it changed all that came before and after. Can you imagine being a producer at Elektra in 66, 67, and 68? Why they were never bigger than the Doors, I'll never know.

Forever Changes is one of the best.
Some get it, others don't.
This just adds to its legacy.
Duality is a mark of true greatness.

Forever changes: Excellent and more. Listening to it just now. Ochs was so good, Neil still is! You seem to know your music, good!

Yes, I saw them at Bido Lito's too.
I got this DVD and listened to it today.
I've always thought "Old Man" was their finest work.
I think Arthur was a prophet, just listen to how he spells out his life (in advance)

I saw them at the Fillmore East in 1970 - they opened for the Grateful Dead but I was there to see them.
mtc1023 - I agree about the Moody too!

the pinnacle riff of a house is not a motel on this live version which the bass player plays and then when the guitars join in at around 7.33 is one of my favourites ever. gives me goosebumps everytime

One of the best albums ever produced. I loved it in the late 60's and still love it today.

I concur about the liklihood of this album lasting
forever. It has been my favorite for many years. I
find it funny to proclaim this as the next 15 albums
of favoritism are all the moody blues.

I was there in Bito Lito's (a club in Hollywood) back in the mid 60's when Love was getting started - that was a wonderful time and Love was king!

I think this album stands up so well to the test of time. I sure did drop a lot of acid to this album! The imagery, the complexity of the music and arrangements, were a quantum leap from thier previous album, My Little Red Book is a classic, but FG. whew, just whew!!! SO far aheade of their time

Forever Changes
Apparently rated as one of the best of 50 albums of all time. Sorry I was unaware of the group LOVE until the death of Arthur Lee in 2006. LOVE apparently maintained a southwestern regional location and did not tour much out of that region but kept a huge fan base over the years.Just glad that YouTube introduced Arthur Lee to me and has preserved a minute portion of his music. Alone Again Or is an awesome piece of yesteryear's music.Like finding a hidden treasure.
