  • smashing pumpkins here is no why classic nearly ruined by rihanna first place on the suggestions list she does not deserve to share the same page snap out of it youtube

  • orgasmic solo.... meant so much to me as a teenager, and still sounds powerful to this day. the pumpkins are real.

  • @mrdfitz1

hey my friend. i'm 30 now as well. this band has given me so much. the sound and billys voice are so unique. the pumpkins are a big part of the soundtrack of my life.

  • The first song I've heard of The Smashing Pumpkins. simply divine! TSP 4 ever!!

  • I miss Mellon Collie period......

    I miss it soooo much...

  • I miss Mellon Collie period......

  • That old man going crazy in his room said:Those were not the crossroads-it was the

    star.....that you are !

  • i love the pumpkins but these lyrics are so tragic teenage

  • 0:39

They're singing about all us pale kids on our computers... I need some time to think.

  • I love the little guitar riff they play after every line in the chorus!

  • "to be or not to be". i love this song.

billy is so dark, this really catches the main point throughout most of his older songs

  • Good song.

  • i like to think of all the people who are grunge as the first emo kids but were not pussys about life we just hate it (We are the kings of gloom)

  • @captinSideways it was a love/hate thing and certainly we didn't run from it ... rather we embraced all and everything that was different and came our way

  • @bogdannitza you are very smart thank you i sound really dumb saying this but im kinda out of my time im 15 but ive listend to grunge my hole life and im tierd of getting called emo its annoying

  • @captinSideways I dont think there was any such thing as emo when I was 15.. You were either a goth, a hippy or a freak, depending on the mood of the so called "normal" people. Dont let people get you down mate, if they dont like you because of the music you choose to listen to then they are not worth your time. Rock On \m/ :)

  • @fredpunk123 its not so much the music its how i dont hav a facell expression othier then a frown its not even much of a frown i just dont hav a spusific one in general now that really freaks people out hahahahahahaha but basically a emo kid is somone who hurts them self cus they arnt strong enough to handle life cus thier cry babys thanks for the advice though

  • It was stated before that Billy wrote this song for Kurt Cobain. I mean listen to the lyrics and you find references. Teen machines (smells like teen spirit) king of gloom (grunge) and a few others. GREAT FUCKING SONG

  • the greatest rock record ever! Billy's writing, Jimmy...they were in TUNE for that record.

  • Probably my favorite SP song.

  • So many great songs on this album.....Here is No Why proudly stands as one of the best SP songs imo!

  • everyone that says "oh, how I miss those days" just put it like this : how I miss the 20th century, it was great for music!! I was born on Smells Like Teen Spirit and I wash it was captured on tape because it would've been the best footage of my whole life, period.

  • I listen to this song whenever I'm discouraged. Never give in, never give up. :)

  • perfect song

  • "The endless drag of a death rock boy"? Was Billy Corgan a goth? That's kinda funny, imaging Billy in all black and fawning over Rozz Williams xD

  • @Phoenixsinger93

Yeah Bolly was actually a goth back int the day, his first band The Marked were goth rock.

  • Billy has stated numerous times that the songs on this album symbolized "HIS" youth from age 12-22 He said the songs were not in order to tell a story but rather just a collection of songs all with the common theme of teenage emotions,,,he also goes on to say this album was a farewell or goodbye to those feelings, it was time for him to grow up and this album was a way for him to sweep all that youth angst under the bed. Hence his more mature material that followed MC&TIS.

  • @weinerdvm any way you look at it, this was their best album (together with Siamese Dream), the teenage angst and all was what made Smashin Pumpkins that great. At least imo =/

  • What a great album.

  • oh the memories. I love this song!!!

  • honest to god, it helped defined my world and generation ... one of Corgans countless life changers...heavy as fuck to this day ... and so fucking profound....with meaning that goes to the core of the heart and soul

  • I must have heard this song hundreds of times and even now I still get chills every time at Billy's incredible roaring vocals during the "If you're giving in then you're giving up" line. What a great fucking song.

  • might be one of the greatest songs ever. 3 meanings. take the one that applies and leave the others

  • And in your sad machines, you'll forever stay

Desperate and displeased.......with whoever you are.........

    And your a STAR........

  • @whereztati

oh brother. you'll be ruined forever. this song is only the slightest taste of how awesome they are.

  • @Jeeptruck86 Damn right.

  • may the king of gloom, be forever doomed

  • another one of the many great songs by one of the best bands of its time.To this day I feel this band is still one of the greatest and there music always brings back waves of memories from some of the best times in my life..........71

  • @esar71aw i feel you on that.

  • I miss the 90's...

  • love it, love it, love it!!!!

  • I keep trying to listen too this song....but when i go to look it up i can't remember the name of it.. It's such a strange title for a song, can't seem to keep it in my head for some reason. Anyone else have this problem?

  • @londonscalifornia It's called "Favorites" My friend :)

  • it takes days to understand the music of SP

  • @LocoRoco7 years.

  • This song carries such depth, it seems so fresh even after all these listenings since the mid-1990s.

  • Love the jammy guitar here. Wonderful feel and some of the prettiest pain on Mellon Collie.

  • billy used an EHX micro synth for this solo.

    i think i want one... :-D

  • This is my favourite SP song. I think it's very underrated.

  • @whereztati hell yeah!!!

  • This song reminds me of child actors

  • To forgotten faces and faded loves

    Sitting still was never enough

And if you're giving in, then your giving up

    Cause in your sad machines

    You'll forever stay

    Burning up in speed

  • When I first got this album, I used to skip this song just because I thought the opening few seconds were kind of dull. I can't believe what I was missing. I dare say this is the best song on the album. =)

  • This is song is just unimaginably amazing. No matter how many times I listen to it the line, "If you're giving in, then you're giving up" hits me so hard. Thanks!

  • This is definitely one of the best Smashing Pumpkins songs ever! One of my favorites in the album! Would have made a great single as well!

  • the guitar solo on this song is among the most perfect pieces of guitar playing ever imho

  • does anyone else think this song may be related to kurt cobain? maybe not about him but like has something to do with him? just wondering.

  • nah its just a rumor, it has already been asked by some mtv interviewers back in the days, he answered no.

  • Great song from an Epic Album

  • couldnt have said it better myself mate....

    billy's voice is so unique....

    Thses guys stand alone.....

    PURE brilliance..........

  • Damn almost 15 years sense the Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness album came out.

  • fuck yeah, A major 7!!!

  • 0:40 And in your sad machines, you'll forever STAYYYYYY so f*ckin good ahah

  • great track , reminds me of being on my paper round

  • Right the fuck on. Billy's rock energy was raw and real. He's the last real rocker to tap into what it's really about. He's kinda off in his own universe right now but if he ever comes back, I hope to God he rocks all of that pussy rock shit you hear on the radio right off the goddamn map.

  • THE SOLO!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAGGGHHHHHH!

  • 1:31

  • One of my favourite solos ever, I never tire of it!

  • i was in 5th grade when this came out, the first double album i ever bought

  • it reminds me days of high school...awesome song

  • that's greatful!

  • that guitar solo does it for me every time

  • this song pretty much sums up the nineties for me

  • guys what does the expression "here is no why" mean?

  • it means there is no meaning.

  • thanks!

  • you can use the gain button on some amps,

  • Great song!

  • this song always reminded me of in bloom by nirvana this is a fucking great song

  • completely awesome

  • ha my favorite part ^-^

  • your a star !

  • amo este tema

  • The guitar sound on this tune got me into the Pumokins. then i listened to the album. then bought everything they ever did, including ALL the raraties AND bootlegs. I cried when some bastard stole the lot.

  • Damn that really made me sad. :(

  • there is a song out there somewhere that sounds alot like this song!!!! anyone got any ideas????

  • amazinggggggg at 2,27min

  • somewhere, he pulls his hair down, over a frowning smile!!!

  • SP could always strike that nice balance between rocking your ass off and crafting thoughful lyrics. The god aweful babble coming out of rock bands right now makes me sick. I love Tonight and all but its disgusting how that's the only SP song playing on the radio nowadays.

  • Great song. Great album. Great artist.

I've noticed that rap videos often have arguments in the comments, whereas on these pages of comments that this is on right now have very few arguments, if any. I don't know, does it prove something?

  • yes it does. it proves we who like rock can agree with on another and be united in what we love and beleive in . unlike those idiotic infantile rappers and their fakeness.

  • one of their most under rated songs

  • All songs on that album were great... not under rated at all.

  • This song sounds good on acoustic, too.

  • In your sad machines, you'll forever stayyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!

    Oh those were the days!

  • Yup :)

  • F'n A.

  • @clearasvodka So true! Brings back so many memories...

  • @clearasvodka

    hell yeas

  • The lyrics aren't about being a human and the drag of 'normal' life, growing up and being conditioned by society into another drone - sad machine, day in day out forever stay desperate and unhappy with life. BUT there's so much more, as each person is a star, if one can look under the veil....and see the secret.

King of Gloom is god, who has condemned man to this life and offers nothing and no help. He throws 'god' away for something greater. Just don't give in or give up.

  • Yes, this CD is very Crowley-ish.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law

  • It is: it did allot for me, to have seen this album live when I was around 11-12. Luck me.

    93 93/93

    Y

  • lol

  • best band ever

  • I love that solo

  • one of those songs you can listen to over and over again.

  • i love the music... havent got a clue about the lyrics

  • the lyrics are fucking sick man....its about being a angsty teenager, but I really liked the way they put it...

  • Descendant of Corganism at Amazon

  • I love this song. Especially the guitar riffs!!

  • nirvana,smashing pumpkins,alice in chains,pearl jam:the poker of grunge

  • here is mine: stone temple pilots, tool, soundgarden, the pixies

  • tool=grunge?

    wtf?

  • The Smashing Pumpkins aren't considered grunge, sorry man.

  • ahm no they're not... they're alternative rock.

  • You see 'grunge' was a name given to a bunch of alternative rock bands emerging, mostly from Seattle, at the same time, pioneered by Sonic Youth and before them the Pixies as major influences, taken into the mainstream by Nirvana and continued by bands like the Pumpkins. In this context alternative rock is grunge, they are the same thing.

  • ahm..they're not considered grunge actually...it's alternative rock.

  • 'Grunge' bands would never describe themselves as grunge you see, that was a media term, they all called themselves alternative rock.

  • great song, definately one of my favourites off of mellon collie

  • it sucks that jimmy chamerlin left

  • masterpiece, if youre giving in youre giving up, great shit... corgan is freakin genius, not to mention how fun this is to play on the drums.

  • who is this song dedicated to?

  • Charles Bronson.

  • epic

  • Billy Corgan is a genius at writing and performing......i wish SP would come to Idaho and perform!!! would pay bundles!!!

  • The solo in this song is incredible. It's almost as good as the solo in "Soma"

  • Absolutely mythic solo. I agree. Very hard to reproduce it with the same feeling aswell. Excellent. Soma has a great one too. Cherub rock as well has a real hard hitting one I think.

  • i don't think this is about kurt, but grunge kids in general

kind of like all of the emo kids today that think their lives are so miserable

at least they don't have leukemia,

or don't have to search for food,

or didn't get their parents shot down in front of them :)

  • =O That all happened to YOU?!

  • good job :)

  • definitely should've been a single. but that can be said about so many pumpkins songs.

  • no this song wouldve been a better single than zero i think. Its one of the catchiest songs on the album.

  • This song is the shit. Parts of it make me clench my teeth

  • I love it when he says "and you're a star."

  • One of my fav songs from the first part of their album.

  • I mean .... i see it but at the same time its not all that good of a description of kurt.

  • Sorry but i really don't see how this could be about kurt..?

  • I much prefer the demo of this, Corgan's voice sounds much better on that

  • Great song. So blatently about Cobain tho. Nevermind-they had beef.

  • its about himself

  • This song and album mean a lot to me

  • Is this on Mellon Collie and the Infinate Sadness?

  • yeah

  • dude this album is totally 1 of my favs

  • billy the great......

    best ever smashing pumpkin

  • The guitar work on many pumpkins song is just spectacular, really made them stand out...it's like Billy's second voice.

  • guitar is billy's 1st voice

  • one of the greastest guitar solos ever..brilliant the way he made the 2 guitar parts work so well together

  • i cant even understand what he is saying, take that

  • Sounds like a personal problem.

    I can understand just fine.
