Billy has stated numerous times that the songs on this album symbolized "HIS" youth from age 12-22 He said the songs were not in order to tell a story but rather just a collection of songs all with the common theme of teenage emotions,,,he also goes on to say this album was a farewell or goodbye to those feelings, it was time for him to grow up and this album was a way for him to sweep all that youth angst under the bed. Hence his more mature material that followed MC&TIS.
