@marycockburn1 So she is playing in Key of D major and using 1,4,5 (D,G,A) chords from scale. That would translate to C,F,G for C Major. I am confused about usage of E major. D major scale should have E minor. I am still learning!

@sungitpremi Think of the E chord as an accidental (a note that is not in the key, and so is marked with a sharp, flat, or natural).
