  • Your cat is in a state of REM sleep..the cat is dreaming but that doesn't necessarily include nightmares. All living creatures twitch during REM sleep. Even humans. Look for videos on youtube for babies twitching during sleep as well as hamsters.

  • Just dreaming of catching mice

  • what the hell?! that looks like my cat!! and she does that too, sometimes you can see her move her paw as if she's catching something, then her head goes forward as if she eats it. it's really cute

  • I'm guessing cats do this because they get into REM sleep and the chemical required to keep their body immobile has yet to take full effect. I could be wrong.

  • thumbs up if ur watching random kitty vids

  • mine is doing that now!!!!!!!!!!! it scared me at first, but I hope she's okay!

  • It doesn't mean it has nightmares. It just means it's dreaming.

  • I can tell when mine is having a nightmare or wakes up from a nightmare because he has a different type of meow and it's his "hey, hey, I'm glad you're here" type meow. He meows about 6 times and comes and sits on me.

  • So cute!!!!

  • mine just had one

  • 0:16

    "DON'T TOUCH MY STUFF!"

  • Mine does that and then she wakes up, meowing and comes to sit in my lap.

  • That's just the rem part of sleep (when someone is dreaming). It's hard to tell if they're good dreams or bad dreams, tho, but I'm pretty sure they're not nightmares. My cat once had a really freaky nightmare, started to shake violently in his sleep, then suddenly woke up, hissed and ran the hell away.

  • my cat does that too and just before she wakes up she does that sound which cats do when they fight!! my poor kitty...

  • he's dreaming..he might not be having nightmares!

  • why do you think it is nightmares ? It can be just dreams a nice dream can it not ??

  • your cat looks so much like my cat.

and she totally just had a full spasm and woke up with a start which is why i googled ca nightmares and found this video =)

  • Yes,many cats do this. Its probably dreaming of chasing a bird or squirrel.

  • my cats do this all the time..i think it happens when they're in deep sleep

they move a lot and sometimes they meow or growl

i don't think it's always nightmares, it's like us with the eye movement phase, during REM, it's body reflexes

  • I think cats are all evil because my cat always seems to be having nightmares....

  • its ok, cats have dreams too. not neccecessarily nightmares. all of the cats I had used to talk, growl, chew, suck and make biscuits asleep:):) =^. .^=

  • lol my cat does that too. but stretches while it's doing it

  • once when my cat was a kitten she was sleeping on a chair and she started growling out of nowhere

  • That's not a nightmare it's just a dream, my kitty does it all the time

  • maybe they dream of chasing the eternally faster moth, or mouse. Why a nightmare? It could be her enjoying the chase :)

  • My cat wuz just at the edge of my bed just now when, suddenly, he jerked up and started meowing at nothing. I was layin here like WTF. It wus wierd.

  • Ah I have a cat that does that, but she actually wakes up in a panic after wards and cries like crazy until she finds someone to comfort her

  • my cat fights in her sleep idk y we dont hurt her or anything i guess cats have nightmares

  • sooooooooooooooooooo good

  • My two-year old male Abby must have come from a horrible breeder. He is so skiddish that when you try to pet his head he ducks and scurries. Lately, he comes out of a deep sleep with his tail flred and eyes totally dilated and creeps around staring at his bed as if there is something in it, he approaches slowly and reaches out at the bed. We can't approach him for a while. He steps back and just stares at something we can't find. Any answer would be appreciated

  • My cat does that if you poke him while he's sleeping.

  • Yeahh My Cat Milly Has Them All the Timee x

  • omg!

Your cat is like my cat!

  • Yes it is very nomal!! :)

I had one cat that twitched a lot and sometimes he tried meow and "hiss"... :)

  • mine is doing that as i type this, lol.

  • They do dream like us and many other animals, but I'm not sure they could distinguish a good dream from a bad one, we also have these reflexes while assleep, ones more than others, in extreme cases, people "live" what they are dreaming (noctivagus).P.S. not sure noctivagus is the right term, those people that walk while sleeping and act like they were awake.

  • I think it's called somnaambluancism. it's a parasomnia disorder. I'm not sure and I am not sure of the spelling either, lol but I think that is the term you were looking for.

  • are u sure ur cat isnt epileptic (lol people or animals that have seizures omfg sorry about the spellin)

  • My puppy, Tootsie, also twitches while she sleeps. I don't know that reason for that I am sorry.

  • My cat does that too. But last night he seriously flipped out. He jumped up in the air and spun his legs and hit his head on the wall, then when he looked around he got terrified of the bed!

  • my cat does that sometimes but its mostly my saint bernard (Dont worry the cat and the st.bernard dont mess with each other) but the st.bernard constantly runs in her sleep

  • my cat will do that sometimes

  • cute kitty

  • Kittehs have dreams just like people do. From the twitches they make, we can tell they have dreams about chasing things, catching things, and eating things. If you touch them, they'll sometimes run away in their dream. If you touch their mouth, which I highly recommend, they sometimes smack or make eating motions. I love kittehs!

  • my cat does that sometimes

  • My cat cries in his sleep when he has nightmares.

    Hehe.

    -Lyssa

  • was it because of the fly? u no, the one u hear just before ur cat twitches?

  • Oh MY GOd .

  • Yes, my cats do those movements, too. They are having nightmares.

  • o...k... then

  • ur a fucking dumbfuck.... do u really care if i said wow retarded?!?!?!? get a fucking life asshole!

  • hey, i think sum1 came on to my account and wrot wow retarded cuz it wasnt me! anyway... w/e

  • my cat does that sometimes. I think it's normal.

  • wow,retarded!

  • this is... scary... :| seriously that doenst look the slightest bit natural have u seen a vet about that?

  • A neighbor of mine grabbed our cat and took him to the pound (even though he was in OUR yard... long story), and when I brought him back, every time he slept he growled and woke up with a jerk after his whiskers twitched, and if I tried to pet him to calm him down he would jump up and run away real quick before realizing it was me. He probably had nightmares about being in a pound with dogs.

  • @longhairedbear86 POOR KITTY :(

  • Whats wrong? He sleep.. :o

  • Your cat has a very noble visage, like a little sleeping Aslan.

  • Oh, yeah, my cats twitch all the time in their sleep. Sometimes their paws twitch because their chasing something in their dream. Sometimes their ears because they hear something. Cats have dreams too, but that didn't really look like a nightmare right there.

  • mine does too ^^

  • I've always wondered what cats dream ABOUT. Dogs chasing them? Somebody ringing the doorbell? Our Persian DEFinitely dreams of our black cat pouncing on her (the little booger.) She wakes up suddenly, meowing loudly. Then, she goes back to sleep. What a rough life.

  • They do have dreams. So ive heard. My cat has done the same stuff, and started shaking and meowing a little

  • the first time i saw my cat doing that it was completely limp and not moving so i was like OMG its ded. But then it started twitching and i was like wtf. Try playing with its paws when its like that. When my cat falls asleep i love arranging her paws in a diferent position then how she went to sleep and when she wakes up she always looks so confused.

  • lol thats cruel

  • @freakyfro99 LOL

  • be careful not to suddenly wake him when he's dreaming, i did that and he attacked my face

  • I saw my cat do something like this once...he was kicking with his back feet and even meowing a little bit.

  • Yeah actually my dog does this. When we see him twitching like that, we wonder if he is chasing rabbits?

  • I believe animals have the same sleep patterns as we do. What you saw there is REM which is the dream phase. I've never seen my cat do it but my dog doesn't it all the time as well as whimpering and barking in his sleep.
