Tommy Buford, the legend.......Read my book by sharpnall and associates this year about the legend and how the town hated me and "his' friendship....He was there when I needed him. Some names have to be changed in order to keep the privacy...
Tommy once took a guy outside and opened his mouth on the curb ( like Tony Saprano ) I assume they probably got this idea from there among other places.....Anyway, pounded his teeth out....Tommy got in major trouble......He was beat up very bad by the Buckingham Crew...Five of them against The Mighty Tommy Buford...The main dude asked Tommy if he wanted a drink before he and his crew wipped his ass. Tommy said yeah, took a drink, and with the same bottle busted the boys head in half.!!!!!
The place was actually there...closed three years ago...lots of history, fights in and out of the bar...which included Tommy Buford and Jimmy Buford 9 now passed away ) Tommy Buford was my best friend and I was his best friend.... Tommy only did not like you if he found out that you talked about him or his family in a negative way and then smiled at him the next time, or even before that. Jimmy was the same way, but a different soul all together. I miss the both of them.....
This highly ornate dreadnought guitar didn't exist during the time period of the Walton's storyline....no matter though, this was Merle in his prime. I feel lucky to have shared his time here.
@jvera2121 In an earlier episode a different actor played the part that merle is playing. Ron (OPIE) Howard played the son and had an incureable disease and died in the earlier episode. Jason, of the waltons, was a close friend to the character that dies. After the death of his son Red, played this time by Merle Haggard, had give up his music carreer. Jason encouraged him to start singing again. The lady played the wife of Red(Merle).
He is such an icon to me and will always be. He is and defines the meaning of art and the word art translated to Hag says it all. There will never be another. If interested in seeing my cover of one of his songs go to: Wish things were simple again, A haggard cover I do. And I have my own song. Go to: Guitar Music Video mrtoeknee641. Y.T.MrToeKnee641.
I have to admit... I'm not much of a country music fan, but... I REALLY, and have always loved, Merle Hagaard's music and style. I jus t saw this episode today for the first time...and I'm a long time Waltons fan!!! FANTASTIC!!! :)
When I grew up there was no dvd or video or fancy tv stations all we could hope for was to see a glipms of the great country singers every once in a while on TV...I still recall seing this with my dad ,on the Waltons...thanks for the memories
Like I've mentioned in a previous post, I watch his performance as a grieving musician/father,Red Turner. As most of us know, Merle lost his father as a child and has never fully gotten over his grief, so I think this is why he portrayed the grieving emotion so well in this epidsode.
Soul-touching music from one of our finest!

Merles a cut above every musician ever born.

I think it unfair to judge today's artists by Merle Haggard's standard. He was a cut above the artists of his day as well.

This is written and originally recorded by Jimmie Davis. The late Eddy Arnold covered this one as well.

Kind of strange. That's one fancy-ass guitar! It is Merle, though.
