  • i want to learn this cadence

  • jeez we have many people in our band but only 4 snares 2 quints 4 bases and 1 cymbal lol..

  • the basses need to be raised up

  • match grip and traditional grip.

  • ha. your drum line is tiny. we have like 6 snares, 7 tennors, 4 quads, 6 basses, and 7 cymbols.

  • arent tenors the same thing as quads?

  • they can be. but we have tennor drums that read snare parts and quads. cuz we have so many people. our entire marching band has 160 people.

  • nice...our band has like 215 9 snares 4 quads 5 basses and a ton of cymbals

  • wow...ur line is rly small

this year we were marching 6 snares 5 basses n 3 tenors

now we hav 5 snares 4 tenors n 5 basses

  • LOL.

  • we have 2 tenors, 5 basses and 4 snares=DD this is the best year ever for uss goo KATELLA KNIGHTS=DDD

  • just that? what about cymbals?

  • were bout to get new drums for our drum line we have 4 bass 3 snare 2 cymbals and 1 tenor player

  • lol

  • is there any way a can get tabs for this? we march 4 bass, 2 snare, 1 quad, and cymbals, small line.

  • we have 1 tenor 1 snare 2 bass. it makes me want to cry

  • those bass players are small compared to my bass line

  • that was sexy. but it was unclean.

  • real nice cadence, i like the quads that sound more pans like than the high bass sound no lie.

  • hahaha, we played that song for out first year of drumline... good times good times

  • yo that sounds mad sweet. the camera needs beter sound caulity

  • Lol the snare on the left has his legs apart at :29, then keeps them together at :54... :P

  • they arent the best players but i gotta say its really catchy... but if i were your school you should focus on exercises rather than cadences.

  • wow i kinda feel bad for those bass players, for them to be so small and playing drums as big as they are spell back problems! @ our school our biggest bass is about the size of your 3rd

  • I know right my school has 6 bass drums and that 4th is as big as our 6th.

  • Tell me if i am wrong but it kinda looks like your snares are using too much arm... I can totally understand if you are all young players, but just work on wrist rotations and less arm... and i dont think i need to mention the bass technique...

  • it is great to see these kids playing, but unfortunately the recording sound is undercutting the quality.

  • wow i love all the haters on here. Lets get back to the basics and encourage, music is a dying art and really the younger kids need all the encouragement that we can give them. Tell me the last time anyone has had a perfect performance....never...

  • In anyone's defense, though it shouldn't make a difference, these were first and second year bass players who were kinda trusted into playing. They did good, they were kinda small though.

Good luck ACHS, and just remember,

"One more time usually means 6 more times"

  • why does it seem like everyones drum line is so small???? we have 4 quads, 9 snares, 9 basses, and 9 cymbals. Like wtf mates?

  • why is it seem like everyone's drumlines are so big? My school ran 5 bass 2 snares 2 quads and a cymbal. Worked fine.

  • haha we have the exact same except for 1 more snare and 3 more sets of cymbals. but cymbals are gay so they dont really matter lol.

  • cymbals ARN'T gay and they DO matter!

please check out my piece, "Kang Time", and tell me if you think it would sound better without cymbals.

  • umm. first of all no. and second of all my band teacher was about to omit cymbals from even being a part of indoor drumline this year because she didn't think that they were necessary.

  • wow, your band **DIRECTOR** is a freaking dumbass.symbols do too matter!

  • hahaha you called his band director a dumbass and then spelled cymbals wrong hahaha

  • no my friend ... marching cymbals are incredibly HOMO!

  • Just because you said that, everyone now knows you're an idiot to the percussion world.

Have you ever once gotten the chance to witness ANY Vanguard cymbal line??? WAKE UP!!

  • im just saying im not a big fan of them... they definately add to the visual presentation of the show... but besides that.. i dont see a NEED for them

  • What do you see a need for then, and WHY?

  • uh yeah they are gay. all they do is provide emphasis and make a cool effect every now and then. ask any person if they would rather march cymbals or snare and i can assure you that the mass majority of them will say snare. if we only had cymbals it would be stupid because cymbals cant do anything cool by themselves. on the other hand, snare, bass, and tenors are all cool by themselves. cymbals are gay.

  • I'm just going to assume your in junior high or high school, and you have little to no experience witnessing or playing in a respected battery.

So, what the hell do you think you have on me?!

And did you ever watch the SCV videos?

  • i'm not saying that they're completely gay i'm saying that i'd much rather play snare in any drumline than cymbals and so would anyone else. i would gladly march cymbals for SCV if i could even get the chance or was even good enough. who do you march with?

  • You would gladly march cymbals for Vanguard, but just because there are junior highs and high schools that don't use them to their potential, they're gay? WTF.

What do you kids even mean by "gay"? That is such an immature term, like seriously, I've heard/seen elementary school kids say "that's so gay" one time when I was teaching a group one day. Basically, you need to stop to saying that, now. It's old. Grow up.

I march bass drum for Cascades. It's my first season.

  • because vanguard is fucking awesome and you have to either be a freshman or suck to get cymbals for junior high or high school. i don't know. everyone says stuff is gay. it's just what people say. i'm so used to hearing other people say it. its just a habit i guess.

thats awesome dude what bass do you play?

  • You should be like me, and act positively toward quality cymbal playing rather than just hating them all together. Get your director viewing vanguard videos. Spread it around.

Even though it may be difficult because it's a habit, you should just try to stop using gay as a negative term like that. I can't understand how it started out, but it's probably the most immature thing I've ever heard.

I'm playing bass #5 for now. It's A LOT more difficult than I thought. Cascades technique is tough.

  • haha aight. what are you going to do next year?

  • Do you mean which corps or which instrument? I'll definitely march with Cascades. They need members big time, and drum corps is just dieing in the NW. It went from 40+ corps in the 70s now to 3, it's very sad. If all goes well this year, I will definitely march bass drum again. There's something about the sound and feeling that I can never get enough of.

  • actually thats where u are wrong, my friend is a freshman and he marches tenor, and some high school cymbal lines are good! I know the line i march with is pretty good and I don't suck just because i am on cymbals, I was on bass for indoor drumline but wanted to go back to cymbals because I am trying out for a drum corps on cymbals, so dont tell me that u have to suck to get on cymbals for high school.

  • but that's because you wanted cymbals.

  • yeah but my friend who played cymbals with me last year is now on tenor, and he doesnt suck

  • because he got better.

  • yeah he did but he was good when he marched cymbals with me, and my friend did indoor drumline when he was in 8th grade and did bass in his first year and wasnt put on cymbals.

  • but that was middle school

  • no it was high school!

  • you said junior high. derp derp.

  • no i didnt i never said jr. high, I said my friend did our High School indoor drumline when he was in 8th grade and he wasnt on cymbals, we allow some people not in high school to do high school drumline sometimes.

  • *8th grade*

  • look mother fucker, the point is that you most defenitely have to be either retarded or suck or just like it a lot to march cymbals.

  • i agree with u in every part of ur comment. I am marching cymbals this year mostly because i am trying out for a drum corp. This is only our second season for marching band that the drumline had a cymbal line and we already have been getting great compliments and our music is not all crashes and stuff we have triplets in their and stuff but yea there are lines that just have hi hats the whole show

  • dude 9 basses are just too much. thats freakin retarded

  • that camera has horrible sound quality.

  • Thanks for the comment. Whatever....

  • If your so mad about it why didn't you say in the beginning of the video or in the info box that the sound quality is bad?

  • ...wow...being a bass drummer my self...the way they were holding the bass mallets and slumping inda made a fool of us basses..and thats a loss of points right there in any competitions...get the technique down and maybe the line...then play out

  • whoah.those drums seem a little big on them haha

  • yea like the guy said below me look at that fukin bass technique.... hold the fukin sticks the right way... shit..

  • potential.

  • Sounds and looks like shit...good try though...maybe try playing and rammin' some notes before we worry about a ton of shitty vis....good luck in the future...I hope I don't ever have to judge your line...It would be bad for you...VERY BAD...

  • Hey man give them a break. Looks like a young line.

  • No, see i think that is worse...you made an excuse on why their instructor obvoiusly has no clue how to teach REAL fundamentals and can get them playing well and yet still intrigrate good visuals for them to have fun with etc....I think that is the WRONG ATTITUDE to have...but yes, I should have been more encouraging and less rude..sorry kids..Don't ever stop drummin'....at least keep trying...

  • Good advice. These were pretty new freshmen to the line, they did what they could. This was summer, for Winter drum line we sounded much better (I am not in this video, I played Bass 4 during the winter.)

    ~So now everyone knows who I am.~

  • pretty cool, only thing i recommend is for the base players to keep their mallet position correct. :)

  • 2nd bass drummer looks like she might have a nice body. lawl

  • i learned this at a drum camp i went to over the summer @ UK

  • The UK....that's cool!!!!!

  • Loveeeeeeeee it.

  • Cymbals are old. Tight budget. I wouldn't mind getting new ones but you have to "build with the bricks you have".

  • the audio sounds weird.. good cadence

  • Sorry about the audio. I have a new "Flip" video camera and it has a small mic. I think I was too close when I recorded it.

  • Ur trunks are very funky in this cadence. Awesome guys. oh and ur cymbals suck (not the players, the actual cymbals themselves) lol
