What defines a crime? The law; and speeding is a crime recognized by the law, therefore a uniformed public servant, as you so accurately put it, should have the right to detain you and collect his pay check from your bank account, as the law states that this is his job.

Don't say anything that will in any way incriminate you. For example:

Police Officer: Do you know how fast you were going?

Driver: How fast was I going?

PO: Where are you coming from?

If you can make a strong claim that you weren't in the wrong or if you have a big enough excuse tell it to him passionately. Then apologize for speeding, illegal turn or whatever you did. By showing you know what your talking about and giving him respect he will respect you and let you go...took me about 10 pull overs in 4 years to realize this. I'm 23. Age may have an impact.
