This and Spectra de La Rose are the two pieces I need to see a male lead dance. They really seperate the dancers fromt eh would be dancers. each for different reasons. This man's turns are out of this world. I only enjoyed Misha and Fagawa's more . That is ahuge compliment. I love both of ther dancing and she is a true Prima. Bravo. I love youtube. Thanks to all who post wonderfult things like this!
Miss Rojo is great here, unsurpassable!!! José Manuel Carreño is magnificent!!! Try to see Rosario Suárez in Swan Lake, you will cry seeing at this absolut beauty!!!
Wow! I really do NOT like this. I Have always witnessed Rojo as a quality dancer however i notice that away form te royal ballet she is somewhat academic, I suppose she has to cater for the audience, this is wasy to showy especialy form his part and lacks the artistic quality normaly demonstrated so well by Rojo!
Bad idea to use the Classical Variation No. 2 instead of Medora's original variation, the music doesn't go with this ballet somehow; it's even worse than the Dryad variation of Don Quichotte Act II used by the Royal Ballet. As for the dancers...well I have seen much better...
buy tickets for 31stJuly 2007 at the London Coliseum to see the Bolshoi Nicoai Tsiskaridze dance this role ~~ He is the best in the world at the moment for Le Corsaire dont miss it~~ rest assured he will be different ~~ Not a carbon copy of other dancers interpretation of the role` get out to see the live performance
It is one of the best video ballet clips on this site see beautiful Tamaras double/triple turns { probably filmed from the lighting box} ~~ Congratulations to a great couple When is Tamara Rojos birthday please
in this role all dancers are free to include their own personal strong points just look at the star video of Margot Fonteyn & Rudolph Nureyev performing
you need also to get out to see more live theatre ballet shows
Certainly no need to apologize for expressing an OPINION. My opinion is quite the opposite. Jose Manuel has thrilled me time after time at ABT Met performances. He is masculine, elegant, clean, and musical. Angel does have more speed, but since he's almost a foot shorter, he should.
ole patti we totally agree with you none better than Tamara & Jose performing together . Did you see Tamara in Mexico recently we look forward to hearing from you again very soon sweetiesw
Angel Corella is younger...don´t forget that. Maybe 10 years younger than Carreño. You shuold see Carreño 15 years ago...but anyway he is almost 40 and is still a great dancer, with the elegance that Corella deserves but never had, and his expresivity is far away from Corella´s coldness.
i dont agree. corella is 32 right now, not more....not less. dance is art and obviously people percieve art differently....because angel makes me feel unexplainable things when i see him dancing. have you seen him as romeo??how can you talk about "corella's coldness" after seeing that???
carreño is not bad, but i personally prefer angel, bacuase of his expresivity and technik too.
music credits - opening andante, Drigo from his Nocturne "Dreams of Spring"; Male solo, Yuli Gerber taken from Petipas 1870 ballet "Trilby"; female solo, Cesare Pugni, originaly the 'Variation de Nisia de Reine' from the 'Pas de Venus' from Petipas "Le Roi Candaule" (it was added by Olga Preobrajenskaya to Petipas 1900 revival of "La Bayadere" as a solo for Gamzatti, where it is retained today); Grand coda, Drigo. Music orch by Lanchbery, 1960 (except the female solo).
jose is VERY good and has wonderfull turns, but from what I've seen he cannot jump very high. I know a guy that took class with him once and he said that out of all the male principal abt dancers the only one that can really jump is angel corella. He also said that he stood next to jose at the barre and when he does a tendu to the front you can see all of the muscles in the back of his leg fire in sequence from the top all the way down to his toes.
Do you think? But that's not in the choreography and while a good technical exercise for class I don't think it works well in performance. Just my opinion though. :)
Purplelizzy (from 4 months ago), Tamara did NOT "lose her spot" on the fouettes. She did a monumentally virtuoso 360 degree rotation as she finished the last 16 of the 32 fouettes. Look again and you will see she intentionally changes her spot very deliberately, very skillfully and very ACURATELY every 45 degrees. Honey, you will NEVER see a flaw in Tamara's technique. She is without peer in my opinion.
Thank you melbapatti, that does make sense. BTW, I was just making an observation. I'm really in no position to criticise anyone's technique as it's over 5 years since I set foot in a class. :)

Yeah that seemed weird. Maybe the sound was just turned off? I can't imagine they would just sit there, especially since he was bowing for so long. Very nice video!!!
he didnt get any applause...

I hate it when they use Gamzatti's variaton from Bayadere when there is an original variation which is much nicer and suits the pdd much better.

Look for older Carreño´s video...he is now almost 40. Nobody can jump high at that age. Not even Nureyev.

Ermm..I believe that she was attempting to do the fuettes while changing the spot from corner to corner...try it sometime its actually fun.

Lovely but I noticed Tanara Rojo lost her spot during the fouettes and was spotting into the wings! She recovered well though. I love this variation.

I think the they did, but the person who did the video probably had cut the sound off. It's evident.

haha guys, that's because the video was plugged right into the music, so you only hear the music, not the audience.
