  • f'n awesome Al was an awesome musical artist much love RIP.... thanks for uploading it guy

  • The bass player is attacking that thing like he's playing an upright! Unreal! What a tight pocket with the drummer!

  • There are a lot of great harmonica players out there. Alan Wilson is one of the greatest.

  • amazing how strong is bear's stage presence even though he's not actually playing a part in the song

  • Alan's biological mother died on October 5th 2011.

  • @MrsTopangaMusic Sorry to hear that.

  • Fantastic stuff!

  • Alan had an older sister who just died last year, about 40 years to the day that Alan died. He also had some younger step-siblings from his dad's second marriage. His sister's son and I have worked together for a number of years, and he was only about 8 when Alan died, but still has fond memories of him. I told him that his family should retrieve Alan's '54 Goldtop Les Paul from Holland and donate it to the R&R HOF where it belongs. Both his biological mom and step-mom are still alive.

  • @neverfrisco Thanks for the cool info.

  • I would have paid money for this, thank you

  • at the beginning of that solo he looks like the joker.

  • GREAT .... I was there .. I was 18 years as a grew up in Switzerland .. The same week we also saw Deep Purple and 'I got stoned and missed it' .. Thanks for the memory ..

  • @kalberthy You're more than welcome, my friend - looks like it was a great gig that night. And you were there! I wonder if we'll ever get to see more footage from this concert. Fingers crossed!

  • Larry's bass solo is incredible!!! I've been a fan since 1968 and still to this day their music makes my heart race and the hair on the back of my neck stand up! Love these guys beyond words.

  • anybody ever noticed how much Jay Farrar from Son Volt/UT is much like Blind Owl? Not really physically, but their mannerisms and onstage personality....

  • Mandel was perfect for thisi band. Vestine is amazing.. but has no restraint.

  • Love these guys!!! Need more of them.....Saw at Woodstock--a Joy!

  • GO LARRY!!!!!

  • this band got me into blues... im english so il knight sir alan blind owl wilson!!! fantastic vid very rare loved it r.i.p blind owl and bear.... neil in england

  • yes, this is a great footage. Alan Wilson is one of the best bluesman in history. I can not wait to go to Boston and meet his mother again.

  • Great Great Blues.........Baby.........!!!!!!!

  • i think canned heat had some of there best moments while alan was leading

  • Great footage, thanks for the post. This dude can play a harp like no other, and I have seen my share of harp, he makes it look so effortless. I think his singing style is as unique as the rest of his musical genius. that bassist isn't too chabby either, its amazing how he gets the sound out of an electric bass, it almost sounds like he is strumming a stand up bass. Wish I could have known Alan Wilson, what a remarkable musician. He was HOT

  • I think Alan was so adorable ! I would have liked to have met him... Its a shame I was only 3 1/2 when he passed on... I was born to late.... He is missed....The Great Alan Christie Wilson

  • how larry's bass is capable to withstand the funky beating he gave it the world may never know

  • rest in peace blind owl ! you are my hero bro!

  • Blind Owl was Canned Heat!

  • I was born in 1949 and was 18-19 or something when CH got popular. I bought their "records" and loved them but never untill just the last few days have really had an appreciation or knowledge of the blind owl. He is something. wow what a waste he had to die.

  • @susanmazey --your age and experience is close to mine. i started getting into canned heat (again) a little over a year or so ago thanks to youtube and other stuff on the internet. my favorite on youtube is "Woodstock Boogie". look what we were missing! thanks for posting this ISB, a real public service!

  • he is not a good singer, but what he sings is true.

  • @kralle761 For this band he IS a great singer!

  • @kralle7611 Are you crazy?! His voice was unique! Stop listening to what other's might tell you..., think for yourself! He was a great singer!

  • Shame this is not on the '70 concert album....but hey it's here!.....great stuff!!

  • love that harp...no wait...i love the whole set

  • introducing, the kings of boogie.

  • Beautiful.......thanks for this.

  • Fave and five! Very grateful you posted this for us. A great demonstration of what this superband could lay down. Can you get to those drums? Oh Doctor!

  • Wilson seems like a white/black man

  • Sweet Jesus, ISB, where the hell do you keep turning these little gems up from? Blistering stuff from all those concerned, and a great little solo from the Mole. What can I say, "He likes to pull hard!"

And, as you say, any footage of them during those halcyon days is better than none. We should all just be thankful for what few scraps we get.

Thanks man, thanks. This is very, very cool...

  • The Mole digs deep! And Blind Owl blowing harp! Gotta love it!

  • This is one of the most incredible performances of all time.

  • Great song and harp play by Alan Wilson & great bass play be Larry Taylor!

The very recording can be found on the Canned Heat CD 'The Boogie House Tapes Vol. 1".

    Thanks for sharing!

  • Great! Al's voice and harp on the Canned Heat rythm stew at its best. Gracias!

  • Alan and Larry at their prime. This video is like pure magic being performed in front of your eyes. So much talent, so much musical knowledge.

  • Larry's bass solo knocked me out! Made the hair stand up on the back of my neck! Totally amazing!

  • Magic.....Beautiful

  • i got this song on the canned heat house boogie tapes, soo good!

  • Sorry forgot Henry. R.I.P

  • Got the biggest ovation at Woodstock! R.I.P Al and Bob.

  • His voice was one of those one of a kind voices that come along very seldom. Not technically brilliant but a voice that has buckets of emotion. Shame he died so young it would have been good to hear him develop and diversify

  • alan wilson ,great guitar player and singer !

  • MAGIC!!!!

  • Awesome, priceless footage!

  • Very rich and full harmonica tone.Wilson was the greatest all around white bluesman in history.

  • Where on earth did you get this rare footage? It's incredible!

  • Alan Wilson was so damn cool, I can't believe I've overlooked this band for so long.

  • This is beyond awesome. I wonder why the Montreux people don't release this show as they did with the one the 'Heat gave in 1973.

  • Rare and nice footage of Bling Owl. Every little footage of him is so precious. A month ago i met his mother, we sat down and talked for an hour, she showed me some pics of little Alan and i saw his original records. WOW!!! His mother is a very nice lady.

  • Cool. You were in Boston then?

  • yes, my in-laws live there. i go to Boston at least twice a year

  • How old is she?

  • She is 85 years old, she is not his biological mother, she married hiss father when Alan was 3 years old

  • Is Alan`s real mother still alive? He referred to her in "On The Road Again"...."My Dear Mother Left Me When I Was quite Young"...Alan`s blood mother was reputed to have musical talent.

  • @1994g0 Alan's parents divorced when he was around 3 years old.Hi had a sister 2 years older, her name Darrell. His father was called John and his mother Shirley. Alan and Darrell stayed with their father and grandparents. Two years later John married another woman called Barbara with whom he had three more kids. Alan called Barbara his mother. I met Barbara on august 2009. She showed me lot of pics of young Alan and dhe original records of his best songs. we still keep contact to this day.

  • @torontobigharpfan That's awesome you met his mom. Alan was just so amazing in many ways. :)

  • @torontobigharpfan - what a cool post - He was raised in Massachusetts. I loved Blind Owl so much and was devastated when he died. He was one of my heroes...

  • Long live Alan Christie Wilson! It's always a joy to see footage of him performing. And Larry "The Mole" Taylor is laying it down super greasy! Nobody brings the boogie like Canned Heat. I am so happy that film footage of these performances exist! Thank you ever so kindly for sharing.

  • @jasonpchesney ditto that!

  • THANK YOU

  • yeah!...you're the man ISB......keep them coming brother...thank you.

  • Beautiful.....thank you for posting this

  • Fantastic!! I really did not expect to stumble upon new Blind Owl footage! I've listened to an audio recording of this quite a lot and really liked it, great to have the visuals!

  • Listen to A.C.W. blow that magic harp. What a rich full tone!Alan was every bit the harmonica player Little Walter was.

Kudos to ISB for giving us this intriguing material.Fascinating to watch and listen to.Across the world, let`s raise a glass in gratitude to our Brother ISB!

  • Al Wilson I never heard a white boy playing the blues as good and original as he did. The blind owl is really special. And swinging. Can somebody write the words for me down. This cat is amazing.

  • amen!

  • Thank God there are videos like this for all to see. Let the people of all ages know there is more music than what the media crams down your throat.

Only problem is they have to find it, so most people won't see it anyway.

That is what makes this music special, not every Joe is going to search this great stuff out.

  • Your right but im 17 and well i stumbled across this not so long ago and it great i like canned heat it would be great if there was still music like this cuase i dont think modern music will every be like this agian thats why i listen to old stuff :)

  • right there with ya dude. i listen to mostly metal but the majority is pre 1995. not a big fan of most of todays music myself. music like this is where its at imo.

  • Fantastic, Blind Owl material is always appreciated...And the Mole was also fascinating. Just look at him tearing his bass apart at Monterey pop festival(rollin'a and tumblin')

  • The Mole rocks! Big fat Acoustic amp in the back and he is pumping it out! (Funny to think he did some tracks for the Monkees!) Fito swings it.

  • Amazing! Larry taylor is a beast! Awesome solo!

  • You the man ISB!!! Keep it coming :D
