Utterly powerful, profound...what an amazing song...when relationships end or loved ones are gone...you are left with only words....I hope he wins...the song is pure simplicity, powerful vocal and lyrics.
he has an accent in english its cute but not inthe song the lyrics are beautiful trhank you for clearing it up for us that dont speak hebrew! lol but i love it in hebrew :)
Mellifluous means adding many notes to a syllable, and the voice goes up and down at will. It is the common feature of Middle Eastern singing, and whenever a singer, east or west, uses this feature, we see his or her voice capacity and admire the melody which is produced on "one syllable." Indian singers also use this feature, and Spanish Gypsy singers as well. Listen to Flamenco music and you will hear this as well.
hebrew version is much much better although i didnt understand it until now. but i really do love this song, should have been top 5 along with belgium and cyprus
@sadlysweetmary Yes, arguably Turkey is traditionally middle eastern and so is Azerbaijan, Armenia, Cyprus, etc. Also, among the members of the EBU are Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, and Israel. It doesn't matter really I'm just wondering why others aren't represented.
I cannot address what each country does, but there is a contest annually for Arabic singers and songs, so that may be one reason that there is not more interest. Also- the original Eurovision was more tolerant of diverse national tongues and all singers presented in their native languages. Now it is dominantly English, which is a monosyllabic language. Hard to sing "mellifluously" in English.
@72Yonatan Thank you for your time. I researched the subject as well and I was wrong. All EBU countries had the opportunity and they chose not to of their own accord.
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by it being hard to sing mellifluously in English. I find English to be quite harmonious and tuneful. After all isn't the most popular music written and composed in English? I do, however, agree that people sing better in their native tongue regardless of the language.
One more thing which could not fit due to the space limits:
You presented Israel in a dignified manner by choosing Hebrew; stay with Hebrew always in the future. You cannot do mellifluous movement of the voice easily in English because it is a monosyllabic language. Listen to Eva Rivas from Armenia and she also sounds better in Armenian, not English. Her song content was better than yours, in my opinion.
You're better in Hebrew, but most Eurovision judges do not speak Hebrew, so translated lyrics needed to be available to all the public.
Second point: your performance was superb, and could not have been improved.
The content of the song held you back, since it was a sad song about a breakup. This is not the type of subject matter that honors Israel or her G-d, which is what the nations are waiting for. Use His Name as a prayer in your song - you'll get better results next time.
people like you are annoying and the real terrorists. Listen to this sond, or let it, but leave us with your low educated comments with a low educated view of world!
@RMCKIE You are clearly way too influenced by the media.
By the way, what terrorist attack has ever been by Israelis? huh? exactley: NONE
Israelis are DEFENDING themselves. Its fundumentalist-muslims(from countrys like Iraq, not Israel) who kill everyone for no reason. So next time you write something like that, do some research first, or at least ACT LIKE you have a brain!
the brainwashing here is crazy. Israel was wrong when she attacked like this without trying to resolve the issue before in a less violent way. And yet, with all due respect to the idea of the rally of 'peace', did not have to do that without Israel's agreement, it still endangers the state with all the weapons smuggling into Gaza.
Hebrew is the language of the Angels and all of the Holy Names of God - but this song can be seen as a metaphor for the deceptive lover that Israel has taken who has now abandoned and disappointed Israel. That is probably why it makes you uncomfortable. You feel guilt; and you should feel shame as well.
He is amazing, after hearing (numerous times ^_^ ) the hebrew version I could already tell it's about missing someone. I mean, he could clearly show emotions with his voice, not only words, and that's amazing! :)
Never mind who won, this was the best song this year!!
I cannot agree with you at all; Hebrew is THE ONLY language Israel should ever use for any official foreign contest, regardless of what the nations think. Harel's decision to sing in Hebrew was totally appropriate. English is my mother tongue, but Hebrew is the language of the soul of every Jew.
Harel best! It does not matter, as voted Europe, it is important that we all know that such a magnificent voice only Harel Skaat. His performance, his song - the best that was in this contest.
Sounds like the soubd track from Emmanuel 12. Awful song and not the best singerin the world. He was well off key and way out of his range when he sang it in the Semi's and I was amazed that he got through ahead of the likes of Sweden.
I think Germany will win but hope people have the sense to vote for Belgium which is a beautiful simple song.
can someone p;ease explain to me how this a religous song? everyone keeps sayinbg that...maybe im stupid but i hear it as a song about a lover who died...not sure how it can apply to god...
and im israeli and i dont understandf it as a religous song from the hebrew either (but the hebrew words are more pretty and poetic)
They appear to have attempted a literal translation of the Hebrew, when they should have changed the lyrics even if it doesn't have the same meaning as it Hebrew.
Will he perform it in English or Hebrew in the Eurovision? I really hope he will do it in Hebrew, it sounds so much better and the meaning is clearer!
Eventhough its a beautiful song, I think that Israelic entries often are too religious to stand a winning change in the contest. Some people gets intimidated and some will find it too preaching during a contest of confetti, colored lights and fireworks.
It's so nice to hear it and understand it, ah I love it even more now. Though I think that in Hebrew it sounds even better if you're jewish and understand it. And it's better even if I don't understand it haha, sounds like it belongs.
the hebrew is better but its nice to hear him in english, he has such a "disney" voice, i mean that in a good way
