I've seen an up close video of the Breakdown in Walk With me in Hell and The "Vomit" riff in Hourglass, but holy shit balls. They are so goddamn great. Love Lamb of God.
well after watching this i decided to upgrade from my usual tortex .73mm picks to 1.00mm picks and damn does it make a huge difference!!! i can actually play the vomit riff now without bouncing off a string and missing my timings :D
Two heads with ONE cab? I had no idea that was possible! I can only imagine that it's panned. Marks head through one speaker in the cab, and Willie's through the other...?
This is really not my type of music, but I dig these guys. They play well, and they play well together. I saw some lessons they gave in guitar magazines, and I learned them, and I liked them. They are top notch players.
Because Mark is the lead and Willie is the rhythm. A good lead player of any instrument will follow their rhythm section for tempo and changes. It's one of the reasons they sound so tight together.
@Knuckles669 On certain hard parts like Hourglass "vomit riff" Mark looks at Willie and not the guitar frets as a part of a game. He plays these parts without looking at the guitar. Willie noticed it, so he looks at Mark during those parts live. They explained it on the Killadelphia DVD :).
@thepostfk Well not anyone can play fast, the vast majority of people do not have it in them to practice tedious routines for hours and hours each day consistantly and competently which is necessary to build up accuracy at speed, so no, not anyone can play fast in the same way that not anyone can 'write something solid', some have what it takes and some dont.
Writing something solid is of course far more important than playing fast but if you have a fast idea for a solid riff it would be a
@blubberlips they still shred, idc how sloppy your "technique" is, i believe music comes from the heart, im not bein a dick or anything im just sayin, they might not have the greatest technique or w.e but they still shred and write amazing stuff
@guitaristguy20 Ya I get what your saying about having to put a $100 dollar pedal in front of a 1500 dollar amp. Although when I boosted my dual recto I thought it sounded really nice and had a great character that you just had to have a boost for.
Props on the Engl that amp is the best of both worlds.
@ABigMuffin .50 cal, it has the recto tone and power, with a little more clarity which is always better, or go hunt on ebay for a killer deal, my friend picked up a Mesa Boogie Mark 3 Red Stripe for $400.
@thereevesanator ok I kinda thought some of Wrath was Db because I played along with "Choke Sermon" and sometimes it sounded a little off... THIS video I saw on the Mesa website the other day and it just made me shit my pants with joy.
There isn't really anything that blends two heads into one cab, that'd be kind of ridiculous, but the cab in the vid is definitely a 212. It could be the road king 212, which is stereo, or perhaps a recto 212 which is wired for stereo.
The cab is most definitely running stereo, as they have one SM57 mic for each speaker, and you can hear that the mics are panned hard left and right in the recording.
@AhKillYu that's a really good question if you look at the back of a mesa 2x12 cab there's only an 8ohm in and a parallel'd out, only 2 speaker jacks the one's Ive seen, I'm not a sound engineer but I would imagine there is a rackmount signal processor or splitter that would channel two seperate feeds into signal hence one cab input.. also interesting, check out this video of mark showing his stage rig...
@Shyuum ...its the same tuneing there no incorrect term for it...even if there is flat makes more sence seeing as how your going down a half step makeing a drop D tuneing flat
@Shyuum well both tuneing names are correct so it dosnt really matter but standard tuneing is more of a...standard haha so id prefer to base it off the norm rather then a exception
@acdc4life16 Awesome, I've been on two of their concerts, one last year in Cologne on their first european Wrath support tour and one time in Hamburg four months ago, both concerts were really good. Their tone is very nice live, probably due to Mark and Willies awesome, tight playing. I was so happy that they played Hourglass the second time, love that song. Light show's really cool too. If you've got the chance to get tickets and you like their stuff, don't hesitate - You'll love it! ;-)
Thanks a lot mesa for making this video with them!! I own a Mark V also. I think its cool how Mark plays on the mark IV setting and willie plays on the Extreme setting. I never knew that until now. When (hopefully soon) you do another interview with these guys, ask them if they'll share what their EQ settings are? Its a little hard to make out in this video, but I can see they are different. Check out my vids to see my Mesa Boogie Mark V!
@mrichman i dont know the graphic EQ but i have general idea od the normal eq its bass verry low like 2 or 3 mid is 5 high is full if not almost full and rain is like 6-8 i have a similar setting on my roland cube and it sound great for LOG i turn the bass to 5 or 6 for marks tone and 7 or 8 for willies. i also have the gain cranked for both
